I would hope that with Iran showing it must be dealt with as an aggressor, the realization is growing that Congress should stop playing its petty political games and focus on what is really going on in the world.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo reassured viewers on FOX NEWS SUNDAY that he doesn’t think the impeachment sham (my word) is weakening Trump in the eyes of the world. “Our adversaries understand that President Trump and our administration will do the right thing to protect the American people every place we find risk,” he said.

But House Speaker Nancy Pelosi needs to stop playing games and trying to write her own rules for the Senate and let them get on with their constitutionally-mandated role. Now. She does not get to control the Senate trial by withholding the Articles of Impeachment as an extortion attempt. This long, long effort to stage a “slow-motion coup d’etat” needs to end, finally. We need a full-time Commander-in-Chief (not a defendant fighting bogus charges for another year) and also a full-time legislature that is focused on protecting America in an increasingly dangerous world. I know it may be too much to ask for the Democrats to think any other way than one-hundred-percent politically, but could they PLEASE, for once, at least TRY to think more objectively about the very real threat we’re dealing with?

Secretary Pompeo mentioned Pelosi in an interview Sunday with Maria Bartiromo: “As for Speaker Pelosi, she’ll have the information she needs; in fact, she’s welcome to come to Washington and receive it...I don’t think any reasonable person can read about the history of Soleimani and the intelligence that we had in our possession and conclude anything other than what President Trump concluded and...we would have been ‘culpably negligent’ had we not taken that strike when the opportunity presented itself.”

But never mind the words of Mike Pompeo; I’m sure the world was waiting breathlessly to learn what Colin Kaepernick had to say about Trump’s bold DEFENSIVE strike. Kaepernick’s tweet read, in part: “There is nothing new about American terrorist attacks against Black and Brown people for the expansion of American imperialism.” Gosh, thank you, Mr. Kaepernick, for your pathetically ignorant, partisan and racist opinion, as we didn’t already have enough of these and really needed another one. You are almost as brilliant a spokesman for "progressivism" as you are talented at playing pro football.

As posted on the PowerLine blog, John Hinderaker says, “This is the kind of ignorant twaddle you expect from a radical teenager. Kaepernick has never grown up. What is significant, though, is that Kaepernick is one of the primary spokesmen for Nike, a $32 billion a year international marketing powerhouse.” In other words, Kaepernick is an idiot, but Nike has no excuse. It’s just one more example of the anti-Americanism that they know will play around the world and even, they believe, to their market here at home. With enemies such as Iran trying to hurt us, this is the last sort of attitude that deserves to be indulged.

Just for fun, I looked up "swoosh" in the dictionary and saw that it is defined as "the sound produced by a sudden rush of air or liquid."  So that's just how we should think of Nike, like a rush of empty air.  But I digress.

It’s long past time to bring up the level of discourse –- which could hardly get any lower; Kaepernick’s tweet is Exhibit A along with similarly brainless tweets from Ilhan Omar and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez –- and take a hard look at the growing threat posed by Iran. This cannot happen while the Democrats are so set on damaging the President in any way possible. If necessary, the Senate can change its own rules so that it can take up the impeachment trial without Pelosi’s cooperation. The Articles of Impeachment have already been published, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell knows what they are without having them formally delivered to him, and he can call for a Senate vote on the rule change. Madam Speaker may participate if she so chooses, but if she refuses to cooperate, she can pound sand.

When asked about this by Bartiromo, Sen. Graham said the Senate trial, with the rule change if necessary, needs to happen within “days, not weeks.” He went on: “What she’s doing is bad for the country, it’s bad for the Senate, it keeps us from getting on with the business of the American people, it denies the President his day in court. The founders never envisioned we’d have a Speaker do something like this --- withhold the Articles demanding the Senate bend to her will. It’s not gonna happen."

"If we don’t get the Articles this week," he said, "then we need to take matters into our own hands...this is abuse of power, this is constitution extortion...”

Regarding the Articles themselves, he rightly called the 'obstruction of Congress' charge “a complete constitutional joke.” As for the 'abuse of power' charge, “There was no bribery, no quid pro quo. The reason they did ‘abuse of power’ is they couldn’t prove the other two things. The President did nothing wrong.  'Abuse of power,' in this context, is impeaching the President because you don’t like him.”

The Senate should give Pelosi a few more days and then go right on without her if she fails to respond. As Jonathan Turley (remember him as one of the four lawyers who testified in Schiff’s hearing) said this weekend, “Securing an impeachment so fast does not earn you a historic prize. It simply earns you a historic failure. By not seeking to compel numerous key witnesses, the House now relies on the Senate to complete its case.  Since the House has maintained that the record overwhelmingly proves that Trump is guilty, the Senate could simply try the case on the record supplied by the House. Indeed, in the 1999 impeachment of President Clinton, Senate Democrats, including Minority Leader Charles Schumer, fought against any witnesses and sought a summary vote without a trial.” Plus, this hurry-up-and-wait strategy undermines their original (and I say laughable) argument for a speedy impeachment: that we have a criminal in the White House who needs to be removed, now!

Democratic impeachment case collapses under weight of time

So let’s stop playing political games, conduct the impeachment trial in the way Clinton’s trial was handled, and get this idiotic thing over with. And once we’ve done that, TRY, just try, to keep the politics out of our response to Iran. We all know perfectly well that Trump is being criticized not so much for his action against Iran –- which was not disproportionate and needed to happen –- but for who HE is (The Hated One) and why HE might have done it. They focus on Trump, not Iran, as the enemy and will second-guess everything he does. Of course, if they really cared to understand President Trump, they’d know he’s the last person to want more war in the Mideast. But this is the political double standard at play once again. They need to get over it and deal with reality instead of making up their own.

Kaepernick needs to brush up on the Middle East. The majority of Iranians are Persians. They are not Arabs. They consider themselves white.

You are so right that it is time for the "democrats" to stop futile investigations and do the work they were sent to Washington to do. It's three years of political persecution of the president. Now he was impeached just for daring to win the elections against an arrogant candidate who had rigged the election and could not graciously accept defeat. How many times has the ruling party won a third term? The American people change parties every eight years, in the hope of getting a more honest government, one that will deliver on their promise. This time we have someone who wants to deliver and and is doing it against all odds. Even against his own party. God help him and bless his efforts for the US.

Question: is it President Trump the Dems hate so much or just any Republican who would have won in 2016?

Excellent summary. Thinking the Media leading the Dims will take any other course except self annihilation is truly a pipe dream. My advise is Quit giving the morons routes of escape. Purging the Progressives of BOTH parties would be a great benefit to the Republic. If they are not smart enough to figure out they are being Used, then so be it!

I get it, Mike. I see what you mean.
Every time President Trump exercises his responsibilities as the
    President elect, Minority Leader,
Schumer and House Speaker, Pelosi "undermine" what President
Trump says or does on every level.
It's the bitterness that they seem to
possess. We've heard their lies and
witnessed their continual denial, deception and violence committed
in disapproval of his supporters, us
the opposite party, The democrats have used their POWER for ABUSE of Congress!!!

    Nancy P.,
I have not heard this on the news about some of the Dems knowing the attack on the embassy was eminent and that they had told the Iranian backed militia the Trump was "neutralized" and would not retaliate.. If this is indeed the case, these Dems who did this should be IMPEACHED AND TRIED FOR TREASON!!! We need people in office who really love our country and want the best for it!

If anyone is saying Iraqis are begging US to leave, they are misinformed. Sunni Muslims, Kurds and other minorities in Iraqi parliament were not present when vote was taken to have US leave Iraq. Only some Shiite Iraqis aligned with Iran were present when vote was taken.

How can Ms. Pelosi be so against protecting the American people and more interested in impeaching a president that is trying to do what he said he wanted to do. How the people kip electing this incompetent person year after year. I guess it's because she likes to give everybody free stuff.

Without a doubt,Mike, if Democrats really loved our country they WOULD start caring more about the potential threat Iran poses to our country THAN still doing everything in their "power" to insure the President's impeachment....but save a miracle, I do not see them shifting gears....because...they have been so obsessed BY their hatred it now controls them!!!..

The more one serves Satan, the more he gets a foothold in one's heart and mind
and GAINS control OF one's heart and mind.....Likewise, the more one serves Christ ...and dies to himSELF....the more he is able to say after the apostle Paul, "it is no longer I who live, but Christ Who lives in me". THESE ARE THE KIND OF CHRISTIANS WHO NEED TO START EXPOSING THE POLITICAL EVIL THAT IS GOING TO WORK AGAINST KEEPING AMERICA SAFE FROM ATTACKS FROM OUTSIDE OUR COUNTRY BECAUSE THEY ARE TOO BUSY PROMOTING ATTACKS INSIDE OUR COUNTRY!...Sooo scandalous!

I am so sick of the Congress and almost sad to be an American if this once great country. I think the government should pursue and prosecute senior members of our democratic congress for treason, starting with Nancy Pelosi, Schumer and Shiff. Then on down (way down), to the squad, (I won’t mention their names, they’re not worth mentioning.)

As for Kaepernick, there are no words, or maybe something I heard from one of our war heroes in the news, when referring to someone in the squad, “weapons grade stupidity”. What’s happening in this great country.

    Mr. Huckabee,
I retired a couple of years ago to take it easy and relax my way into the grave. I've always been so involved in earning a living for my family and raising my kids that I paid little attention to politics. Oh, I lived through and watched the Nixon impeachment, but teenage angst took priority, and I lost interest. I also lived through the Clinton impeachment, yet again, I couldn't raise my awareness above the mire of work and family life long enough to really find an interest. It seemed so childish and petty, what took place, that I chose to ignore the spectacle rather than be swallowed by the anger and controversy. I know what happened, I watched some of the trials and listened to some of the testimonies. However, the frenzy of life stole my attention away from the importance of history as it unfolded without my concern or understanding. I simply didn't have time. And that is what I think the Democrats are counting on now.

No one will pay attention to the reality of the situation but will instead catch the evening news. And the evening news is in their pockets. That is why I am thankful for people like you who bring the "information" past the barriers of the "evening news with..." and into my home—in print.

I don't rely on insinuation any more. I don't watch the inference. I'm not hypnotized by the familiar faces who speak to me like they're my best friends. I read. And I make up my own mind.

And I have learned that you will assist me in this endeavor.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart,

    James D. Johnson

It's about time somebody took control before it's too late. Pelosi needs to be shown that she isn't so almighty powerful. That's wonderful, and I can't wait.

I sure would like to remove p from congress along wit many other dems. they seem to want to destroy my nation; from emigration to weakening the military with infighting. I took an oath to protect the constitution and this country but they seem to be destroying it from within, this breaks my heart, one of my great fears is that they are going to make us start over and they will try to use bad laws to do it we can't let them. I can understand trying to fix differences but creating differences is unacceptable, racism seemed to me to be almost dead but they brought it back to life, I know there were problems, there always will be, but this didn't need to be.

Ahh, witness the American people being shafted once again. The entire congress is nothing but an ABUSE OF POWER! Just considering the issues that could or should have been accomplished to 'benefit' "We The Serfs" during this president's first term is to know frustration and sadness. I am praying that it is not the belief in Nirvana that we will see the replacement of these anti-American politicians in the next election!

It is time to throw Pelosi out on her fat buns and take her drugs away from her. She and Kaepernick must have gone to the same school. A school for no command sense. They have both not learned what it takes to play the game. You hold the ball too long and you will get sacked, You hold the impeachment activity to long and you can get ejected from the game. But this is not a game she is playing. This is treason and the penalty is the termination of her job.

Her and her cohorts are endangering this country. God bless you and yours Governor and thank you for keeping us informed! Heidi

What does Cris Wallace thinks he knows about national security except he enjoys safety because men and our military provides it for him. Looking at Wallace I doubt he could walk a beach and kick sand in a bullies face he is not built that way he would hide behind the bully and be his errand boy or towel boy. He along with cry baby Schumer and the tallest pile of crap that entered the FBI building Comey and a few others like Clapper and Brennan Dumb and Dummer De Blasio and Cuomo if they were stripped of their security guards these are all prime examples of towel boys and restroom attendants.
