The New Plan To Retake Congress

May 30, 2017 |

Democrats think they’ve hit on a way to retake Congress: they’re trying to recruit military veterans to run against Republicans. The idea (not that they put it this way) is to borrow some of the military’s reputation for competence, patriotism and integrity to paper over the bad reputation of their party. And it might work, if they can find enough veterans willing to run as Democrats. The problem is, how many of them will stay in Congress beyond one term? Judging from this story, the veterans they’ve recruited so far say they are running because they’re fed up with unprofessional histrionics and political partisanship blocking the mission of fixing the broken system. Wait until they get to Congress as Democrats and on their very first day, they learn to their dismay that if they want party leaders to give them any decent committee assignments, they have to dedicate themselves to lockstep partisanship and protecting and even expanding the broken federal system at all costs.

This story notes that since the 1970s, the percentage of Congress members with military experience has dropped from 73% to 18.8%. That’s not entirely attributable to the end of the draft, since there are nearly three times as many freshmen Republicans who are veterans as there are Democrats. That’s not to say that the Democratic Party is hostile to veterans. But it’s just hard to imagine that anyone who’s devoted to concepts like a colorblind merit system and placing the good of America above all other interests would be able to stomach representing the far-left, grievance-group, blame-America-first Democratic Party of 2017 for very long.

I have noticed a trend of leftist organizations pandering to out veterans. What scares me is we already have a generation of Vets who feel more entitled than any generation in history. We have come from the Greatest generation who wanted nothing, through the Vietnam generation that got nothing, to the current generation that expects everything (I'm a 30 year vet BTW so I think I now a little about this). The left is attempting to capitalize on this my telling vets they are owed more and more, creating yet another entitlement group. If you think welfare moms have a bad reputation, just listen to some vets whine about Lowe's and Home Depot not giving ALL vets the same discount ALL year long. Its ridiculous. So unfortunately I can see this being an effective strategy to be honest. Americans need to remember, being a veteran DOES NOT necessarily mean Service Before Self. Unfortunately a constant stream of auto-appreciation and gratitude has caused some vets to think about what is in it for them.

Let's not get too full of ourselves. Back in 2009, everybody was predicting the end of the Republican party. Our elected Republicans need to honor their campaign promises or things will swing back the other way. If Obamacare is not repealed, I'll be back to voting Libertarian.

I wholeheartedly agree with all points discussed, but would like to add another troubling thought. No one seems to be thinking of what all the fake news and negative MSM reporting is having on the teens coming of age to vote in 2018/20 election cycles. I'm afraid many have already been negatively influenced, and the likelihood they will be educated with facts is slim to none. They listen to the media in all it's forms and take everything as gospel truth. How do we combat this on a wide scale basis besides the influence we have on our own families?

Spot on sir. The dems will take a big hit next year because of all the stunts they have pulled in 2017. No ground game, no bench and no cash.LOL

I do NOT see our majority in congress. When we move the RINOs to their PROPER side we lose the senate. When we move the NEVER TRUMPERS to where ever they belong we lose the house. Hopefully in 2018 we can do better & rid our selves of some of these SNAKES, as they are more dangerous than Dems.

Governor Huckabee, thank you for your voice in this circus of politics. I am very concerned with how the far (and faraway) left have resorted to vicious lies and selective negative media coverage. Media personalities we have watched for years have disappointed me and most of my family and friends with their absurdity. Is anyone besides Democrats and people with no cable with conservative news outlets the only viewers they can scrape up these days? To see the same negativity and hatefulness in our Congress is very disheartening. I am sick of them. We are faithfully praying for our President and our Country out here in the real world. President Trump and those dedicated to his ideals are being beat up. But guess what, that only makes us stronger to Make America Great Again. God Bless You, Our President, and the United States of America.

A plan only the democrats could come up with. I suppose they believe Vets have forgotten the way the dems have treated them in the past & spoke about them. This is a half ass plan.

Democrats still don't have a message or relevant position that fair minded Americans can support. They may sway some with their current strategy but not enough. We still need you to run for Governor in Florida.??

I think they are just desperate; I also think their party Is done. At least I hope so. I believe they are all bent on socialism and will not prevail. You know, they are defeated by their own dishonesty; they lie about everything and believe their own lies.

I fill like the problem with both parties is the American people are nothing to them what we want for our country doesn't matter lining their pockets and bank account that's all that matters to them
