With Robert Mueller’s indictment of 13 Russian nationals for allegedly trying to interfere with the 2016 election and Russia accused of poisoning an ex-spy and his daughter in London, President Trump expelled 60 Russian diplomats, and Russia retaliated by expelling 60 Americans. In an interview with NBC, Russia’s ambassador to the US, Anatoly Antonov, denied that Russia interfered in the election or was behind the poisonings (he claimed there’s no motive; they had the spy in jail for five years and knew everything he knew.)
Antonov claimed that he can’t personally remember a time when relations between the US and Russia were so bad, and that the two nations can’t have a conversation about real problems because there’s such a toxic atmosphere of mistrust that the US blames Russia for everything, even bad weather.
Okay, while I take the denials of the non-weather accusations with a big grain of salt, I’m starting the countdown clock on how long it takes Democrats to blame Trump for ruining relations with Russia…
And speaking of “Russia-Russia-Russia,” word is that Robert Mueller is now investigating the 2016 Republican Convention, to see if the removal of proposed GOP platform language calling for the US to provide “lethal defensive weapons to Ukraine’s armed forces” was the result of collusion between Russia and Trump. Just a crazy thought, but maybe it was the result of Trump running on a promise of pulling back on US involvement in other nations’ conflicts in general. That was back when the Democrats were accusing him of being an isolationist America-firster instead of a Russian puppet.
If it helps speed this along, I was at the 2016 GOP Convention, and I would be willing to swear under oath that I saw neither Boris nor Natasha there. Although it’s possible they both could have been wearing brilliant disguise…
