President Trump is donating his Presidential salary to various agencies, and his 2018 first-quarter salary of $100,000 will go to the Department of Veterans Affairs. But don’t worry: it won’t go for bonuses to incompetent chair-warmers who make out medical care waiting lists. The money will be directed primarily to VA care-giving programs, to benefit veterans directly.
This is good timing, since it draws attention to news that the House just overwhelmingly passed the VA Mission Act. It’s a major VA reform bill that would lift restrictions on family caregiver benefits (now limited only to post 9/11 vets) and extend the program that gives veterans private care options if they choose.
Now, it’s up to the Senate to hurry up and do what President Trump did: put their money where their mouths are and prove they support veterans by passing this bill.
