TIRED OF IT
I’m getting tired of people claiming that if you criticize the violent rioters and looters, you’re denigrating the value of black lives, the civil rights movement, or the legitimate protests over the death of George Floyd. I’m seeing a lot of misplaced sympathy expressed for violent agitators who have hijacked the protests to stir up violence and racial hatred, and who are actually destroying black neighborhoods, homes, and businesses, setting the protesters’ cause back, and harming the very people they falsely claim to be helping.
But since nobody wants to hear that message from a white male Republican, maybe it will make more of an impact coming from this lady. She’s an elderly African-American woman in New York City whose small shop is something she’s worked for years to build, only to come in and find the windows smashed, the stock looted and the fixtures demolished, leaving it to her to clean up their mess.
In the great tradition of no-nonsense grandmothers, she very appropriately reads these rioters the Riot Act:
“Tell me Black Lives Matter. You lied. You wanted to loot the store. You needed money? Get a job -- like I do. Stop stealing. This is a neighborhood. We’re trying to build it up, and you’re tearing it down.”

JOHN SOLOMON'S 10 REAL QUESTIONS FOR ROD ROSENSTEIN (AND MY ANSWERS!)
Tuesday evening, I posted my promised “20 ‘Just for Fun’ Questions for Rod Rosenstein” in anticipation of his appearance before the Senate Judiciary Committee, scheduled for Wednesday at 10 AM Eastern Time.
John Solomon had a similar idea for a list of questions, though his list is the FOR REAL "Ten Most Important Questions for Rod Rosenstein." Let’s see how much overlap we have.
Solomon includes the full quote I referenced in one of my "fun" questions (asking RR if he was joking): “There’s a lot of talk about FISA applications. Many people I’ve seen talk about it seem not to recognize that a FISA application is actually a warrant, just like a search warrant. In order to get a FISA warrant, you need an affidavit signed by a career law enforcement officer who swears the information is true...And if it is wrong, that person is going to face consequences. If we’re going to accuse someone of wrongdoing, we have to have admissible evidence, credible witnesses; we have to prove our case in court. We have to affix our signature to the charging document.”
This little lecture, highly amusing today in light of what we know, is from two years ago. You can see why I would have loved to ask him if he was joking (as he reportedly said he was about wearing a wire to secretly record the President). Rosenstein did affix his own personal signature to the final renewal of the FISA application to spy on Carter Page, in 2017. Nothing incriminating was ever found on Page, nothing to charge him with and nothing on which to base a renewal of the original application. Not even the original warrant application was based on verified evidence or a credible witness.
ELECTION NEWS
Believe it or not, there were actually a number of political primaries Tuesday. Some went on as scheduled, while others had been delayed by the coronavirus. I guess riots weren’t as much of a deterrent to voting as the virus.
Not surprisingly, the primaries didn’t get much press coverage, but there were some results worth noting:
Despite the media’s best efforts to promote the DC and Hollywood liberal elite’s darling, former CIA agent Valerie Plame, she lost the nomination for New Mexico House District 3 to Teresa Leger Fernandez.
Also, Iowa Republican Rep. Steve King lost his bid for a ninth term nomination to state Sen. Randy Feenstra. Constituents and Party officials abandoned King due to controversy over some of his controversial statements that had them fearing they might lose the heavily-Republican district to a Democrat if King were the candidate.
But the biggest news out of Tuesday’s races is that Joe Biden crept closer to securing the nomination, which is easier when you’re running unopposed. Unfortunately for Joe, that won’t happen in November. At this writing, he’s still 138 delegates short of 1991 needed, so the virtual race drags on to the virtual convention.
HUMP-DAY FAKE NEWS ROUNDUP
To all the people retweeting the meme comparing Trump holding up a Bible to Hitler holding up a Bible: that photo of Hitler is fake. Also, even if Hitler ever did touch a Bible, it wouldn’t mean that he picked it up for the same reason Trump did. Hitler breathed oxygen. I assume you do, too. You Nazis!
As to the claims that police used tear gas to clear peaceful protesters from Lafayette Park so President Trump could walk through it: The US Park Police say they did not use tear gas, it was cleared out before there was a 7 p.m. curfew, and they used lesser irritants like pepper spray because the protesters were throwing bottles at them.
Finally, No, Hillary, David Axelrod, et al: the White House didn’t turn out the lights and hunker down, symbolizing a new era of darkness under Trump. What you tweeted was actually a photo of the White House that had been PhotoShopped to darken it. Also, it was taken in 2015, when Obama was President. That use of fake evidence to advance a false narrative symbolizes a lot, but not what you intended.
A MAGICIAN WHO KNOWS HOW ALL THE TRICKS ARE DONE
I don’t know if it’s a blessing or a curse, but if you’ve been in politics long enough, you start to feel like a magician who knows how all the tricks are done. I got that feeling listening to Joe Biden attempting to perform a feat of misdirection when he emerged from his basement to try to blame Trump and the Republicans for the riots, arson and looting that started in the top-to-bottom-blue Democrat city of Minneapolis in solid blue, “the only state that voted for Mondale” Minnesota. He promised to make battling “systemic racism” his top priority upon being President, vowed to be a healer and uniter of the races, and promised that he would never use racial wounds for political gain.
If the subject hadn’t been so sad and infuriating, I would have laughed out loud. Am I the only one who remembers that for eight years, Joe was part of an Administration that presided over a much-remarked-upon worsening of race relations? There were even race riots under Obama (remember Ferguson after the police shooting of Michael Brown? Baltimore after the death-in-police-custody of Freddie Gray?) Also, Antifa started destroying property and terrorizing people long before anyone even imagined Donald Trump running for President. These incidents were like dress rehearsals for what’s going on now, and they all happened under Obama/Biden. If Joe knew how to heal racial wounds, he obviously never shared his magic cure with his boss.
But here’s the most glaring logic lapse: in attacking Trump for his handling of the protests and riots, and citing them as a reason to make him President, Biden was using racial wounds for political gain even while he was promising never to use racial wounds for political gain!
Come to think of it, that could be the motto of today's Democratic Party: "The Democrats: Using racial wounds for political gain since 1965!"
I confess I felt like Penn & Teller watching a sloppy card switch. I came away thinking, “Seriously, am I the only one who saw that?”
