Now, this is what I call a stunning development: The Daily Caller reports that on November 19th, FBI agents raided the home of former FBI contractor Dennis Nathan Cain to seize documents. Cain is a recognized Justice Department whistleblower who had privately delivered documents pertaining to Hillary Clinton, the Clinton Foundation and the Russian company that purchased Uranium One.
The DOJ inspector general was reportedly told that the documents showed that federal officials (surprise!) failed to investigate potential criminal activity related to that deal, and that then-FBI Director (double-surprise) Robert Mueller failed to enforce criminal laws related to the Russian entities seeking to buy one-fifth of the US uranium supply. Maybe he was already too busy rooting through the garbage cans of Donald Trump’s nephew’s accountant’s chef looking for old Russian dressing bottles to bother with a trifle like that.
Sixteen FBI agents showed up at Cain’s house with a court order, claiming he possessed stolen federal property. He told them he was a protected whistleblower under the Intelligence Community Whistleblower Protection Act and that the damaging classified information had been properly handed over to the Senate and House Intelligence committees. The agent in charge ignored him, and Cain was so scared and intimidated, he just stood by while the agents ransacked his house for six hours.
Cain’s attorney accused the FBI agents of acting in “outrageous disregard of the law” in a number of ways. First, by ignoring Cain's legally protected whistleblower status and ransacking his house to seize copies of documents that had been properly given to Congress, while falsely claiming they were stolen property. He also can’t believe that any judge who was properly informed of the facts would have signed off on that search and seizure order. He said the FBI agent in charge even called Cain directly to ask about the electronics they'd seized without going through his attorney, which the lawyer called “serious misconduct.”
Maybe that agent assumed from Robert Mueller’s disinterest in the Clinton Foundation and Uranium One's mutual back-scratching party that serious misconduct is no big deal in Washington – unless you ever had anything to do with Donald Trump. But the rest of us now know that the DOJ and the House and Senate Intelligence Committees have possession of those documents. Inquiring minds demand to know: what do the documents show and what are they going to do about it?
