America’s largest abortion provider, Planned Parenthood, gets over half a billion dollars a year in our tax money from Washington. Despite Republican promises that if they were in charge of Congress, that would be cut off, PP’s federal funding was actually increased by over $200,000 last year. Planned Parenthood and its defenders insist that none of this federal money is used to support abortion, and that if it were cut off, it would deal a devastating blow to providing women with crucial “health services.”
Okay, I have to ask: like what? PP’s latest annual report is out, and it shows that once again, the number of abortions performed in its clinics is up (332,757, the largest number since 2011-2012), while its other health services are sharply down. For instance, the number of breast exams and pap tests fell from 617,677 to 570,444 since last year. And don’t even ask for a mammogram; their clinics don’t have the machines and will send you somewhere else.
And of course, the number of adoption referrals plummeted from an already low 3,889 to just 2,831 (again, compared to 332,757 abortions. That’s 117 abortions for every adoption referral. Yet they deny being an abortion mill.)
Inquiring minds want to know: if PP is getting more of our tax money than ever…and performing fewer non-abortion services, but more abortions…yet our money isn’t going to support abortions…then where the heck is it going? Wherever it’s going, it seems to me that it could be going someplace where it could be spent a lot more effectively, like to clinics that actually do provide crucial women’s health services.
