Hard times at Twitter
If you saw any of those social media posts by former Twitter employees showing what their "work" day was like (free lattes, foosball, yoga class, gourmet lunch, tanning on the rooftop deck, etc.), surely you must have wondered if they ever did any actual work. We now know that was unfair; they were putting in a lot of hours censoring conservatives whom they disagreed with.
Over anguished howls from the left, Elon Musk fired a large percentage of Twitter employees (as that’s known in the real world, “clearing out the deadwood,” which is another thing that makes leftist greenies howl in anguish.) Result: Twitter is already far better and more efficient, with free speech, humor, open debate and creativity making a comeback. But as he converts Twitter's headquarters into an actual place of business, what to do with all the luxury items that served the previous regime of leftist leeches? Welcome to the great Twitter Garage Sale!
Musk made a deal with Heritage Auctions to sell off loads of equipment from the previous spoiled Twitter staffers: everything from computers and hideous art to $20,000 espresso machines to a commercial dehydrator (reminds me of what they found when they seized Saddam Hussein's mansion -- any gold toilets up for sale?) And attention, Nancy Pelosi: there’s also a top grade, undercounter, two-door freezer to hold all your gourmet ice cream. Frankly, considering the previous employees’ gargantuan sense of entitlement, I’m surprised they didn’t take it all with them.
Despite having such an overstaffed workforce, we’re also finally learning just how badly Twitter was being run pre-Musk, and not just because of all the political activism, censorship and general goofing off.
That link is to a report about Peiter “Mudge” Zatko, Twitter's former head of security who tried to blow the whistle on the shocking lack of security. Thousands of employees – some of whom might have been working for foreign governments – had access to Twitter’s central controls and sensitive data on users. And many had computers filled with spyware. Also, even one data center failure could potentially have caused the permanent loss of all of Twitter’s data.
When he brought this to the attention of previous company leaders, he claims they brushed him off and told him not to put it in writing because they didn’t want the board to know about it. They also misled both the board and the FTC for over a decade. Say, isn’t misleading the FTC something you go to jail for? And not “Twitter jail,” where you just can’t tweet for a while, but real jail?
SBF arrested in the Bahamas
Speaking of millennials with Godzilla-sized senses of entitlement and microscopic value to society, crypto con man Sam Bankman-Fried was arrested in the Bahamas Monday on a US indictment listing a variety of wire fraud and conspiracy charges. Extradition arrangements are still being worked out with the Bahamas, which is conducting its own investigation.
Despite Bankman-Fried’s claims of being a naïve babe in the woods, in the complaint, the Securities and Exchange Commission calls his crypto currency exchange FTX (which collapsed, costing investors billions in losses) a “massive, years-long fraud” and accused SBF of carrying out "a scheme to defraud equity investors” by building “a house of cards on a foundation of deception while telling investors that it was one of the safest buildings in crypto."
This forced the cancellation of Bankman-Fried’s scheduled testimony to the House Financial Services Committee that was set for today. Considering how much money he’s given to Congressional Democrats (here’s a scary thought: Maxine Waters actually chairs that committee), that might have been an awkward conversation.
Without further comment, Biden’s Department of Energy announced that Sam Brinton, the “non-binary” Deputy Assistant Secretary of Spent Fuel and Waste Disposition in the Office of Nuclear Energy, is “no longer a DOE employee.” I guess he's spent waste now.
This comes after Brinton was hit with a SECOND change of stealing a woman’s suitcase from an airport, which might be where he got the wardrobe of flashy dresses and other women’s clothing that he liked to parade around in as one of Biden’s top virtue-signal hires to the LGBTQ+++/kink-fetish community. In fact, being an in-your-face rebuke to biological reality seems to have been the chief, possibly only, reason for hiring him (or is it “them” or some unpronounceable squiggle?) in the first place.
They can’t say they weren’t warned because as that linked story reveals, a psychotherapist tried repeatedly to warn lawmakers about Brinton when Brinton was crusading against gay conversion therapy, “but politicians and activists cared more about how he advanced their narrative…” He’s not exactly advancing it now, though.
The good news: if he’s no longer with the DOE, he can finally pursue his dream job of being an airport baggage handler.
More redefining to cover up stupidity
All those Democrats, including our latest Supreme Court Justice, who are baffled by the conundrum of defining what a “woman” is finally have a reference book that supports their woke insanity. The Cambridge Dictionary has redefined the word “woman” to include “an adult who lives and identifies as female though they may have been said to have a different sex at birth.” They gave a similar loopy redefinition of the word “man.”
They also need to redefine words like “birth,” “sex” and “said,” because none of that sentence makes any biological sense. You aren’t “said” to be female or male at birth, you ARE female or male at birth. It’s almost as if sex is binary. It sounds as if these people are also trying to redefine the word “dictionary” to mean “a collection of politically-correct gibberish that has no bearing on the actual meanings of words.”
I have a suggestion for the publishers of the Cambridge Dictionary. Before you squander any more credibility, fire your current editors and ask “Harry Potter” author J.K. Rowling to oversee your dictionary. She’s obviously very good with words, and she actually seems to know what a “woman” is.
Sens. Rick Scott and Mike Lee have an op-ed at Fox News blowing the whistle on Pelosi and Schumer’s attempt to use the lame duck session of Congress to pass a massive omnibus spending bill that would thwart the incoming GOP House’s power to set budget and spending priorities for the next year. Too many Republicans are showing signs of going along with it in exchange for whatever goodies for themselves that they can get shoved into this overstuffed Santa’s toy bag of inflation-fueling, government-bloating spending.
This article reminds us of the disasters that two years of Democrat control have wrought and why we should not allow them to effectively cement a third year of control of the budget after being voted out. I thought Democrats were the big protectors of “our democracy,” so why are they trying to thwart the will of the voters?
