But sure, let’s trust all our election ballots to the Postal Service. What could possibly go wrong?
Kid gloves for Sam Bankman-Fried
Despite wiping out the savings of countless victims in what was clearly a fraudulent enterprise, crypto-currency (former) billionaire and big Democrat donor Sam Bankman-Fried is being handled with kid gloves by the media and, so far, federal authorities. Instead of cooling his expensive sneakers in jail, he’s in the Bahamas and giving interviews to sympathetic liberals like George Stephanopoulos, who treat him like a poor, misunderstood widdle boy and commiserate as he whines about being down to his last $100,000 (not counting millions in real estate holdings.)
In his interviews, he comes across like an unkempt stoner frat boy who’s baffled at why his parents are mad at him for crashing Dad’s Porsche while he was on weed. He also thinks it’s terribly unfair and hurtful to compare him to infamous Ponzi scheme crook Bernie Madoff because that was completely different from what he did because… reasons. Or should I say, crypto-reasons.
But I will say one positive thing about the corrupt, money-grubbing Democrats who are trying to cover up the monumental financial scam of their paymaster: at least when you buy these politicians, they STAY bought!
Good financial advice
Republican officials in Florida are being criticized for taking $2 billion worth of state money out of assets managed by the financial giant Blackrock. Critics accuse them of playing politics with state money because Blackrock is so open about its “progressive” leftwing investment policies of prioritizing ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) standards – in other words, investing only in “woke” companies.
But Florida Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis fired back, making it clear that it’s Blackrock that’s inappropriately mixing politics with investing. He says the state has many vital programs to fund, and taxpayers’ money needs to be invested in companies that prioritize maximizing returns to shareholders, not virtue-signaling and trying to change the world. In short, they can get woke and go broke if they want, but not with Florida's money.
I’ll bet there are a lot of Disney shareholders who wish now that Jimmy Patronis had been their financial advisor.
$569 BILLION
A California government committee recommended that each of the state’s 2.5 million residents who identify as black or African-American should be given $223,000 in reparations for “housing discrimination” alone. In a related story, every California resident just declared that they now “identify” as black or African-American. And don’t you dare try to tell them that’s not how it works!
For the record, the total cost of that would be over $569 billion, substantially more than the entire state budget. It’s not clear how much more because I don’t know whether that’s based on the $97.5 billion surplus Gov. Gavin Newsom told Californians the state had before the election, or the $25 billion deficit he admitted they had after the election. I shudder to think how big the deficit will be if they not only paid reparations to blacks, but also to all the businesses that have been stripped of their merchandise by brazen thieves and all the citizens who’ve been victims of theft and violent crimes because of the state’s refusal to do its job of enforcing the law. I do think that seems only fair, though.
Lousy timing
An Obama-appointed federal judge ordered Arizona Republican gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake’s lawyers to pay the legal fees of Maricopa County election officials in a previous failed lawsuit to prevent the use of electronic voting machines in last month’s elections. Details here:
Lake says it’s highly unusual to put sanctions on plaintiffs in public interest lawsuits, and alleged that this is meant to send a message that nobody had better dare challenge the election system. But the judge claims the plaintiffs made “false, misleading, and unsupported” claims in their complaint. He wrote, “Imposing sanctions in this case is not to ignore the importance of putting in place procedures to ensure that our elections are secure and reliable. It is to make clear that the court will not condone litigants ignoring the steps that Arizona has already taken toward this end and furthering false narratives that baselessly undermine public trust at a time of increasing disinformation about, and distrust in, the democratic process. It is to send a message to those who might file similarly baseless suits in the future.”
Not being an attorney, I can’t say whether the judge’s ruling is legally sound. But I will say that if he thinks he’s protecting the public’s trust in the secure and reliable way that the “democratic process” is handled in Maricopa County, he sure has lousy timing.
Another sign that Twitter is no longer putting its finger on the scale
Until recently, the “trending topics” on Twitter tended to be leftwing narratives and stories about celebrities that very few people actually cared about. Now, the top hashtags are things that people are actually tweeting about. Last night, after Elon Musk’s reveal of the Twitter election rigging, four of the top five were on that subject, including #ImpeachBiden. Currently, one of the top trending topics is #TrumpWasRightAboutEverything.
And this is why it’s so important to the Democrats to make sure Twitter doesn’t allow Americans to see news they need to see or talk about things they actually want to talk about.
