After reading Kyle Cheney’s piece in POLITICO that mentioned my commentary about Trey Gowdy, I was left with one question: where to start?

Maybe we should take a look at the very first paragraph, specifically the phrase “the President’s unsupported claim...” One has to have been living in a pretty deep cave –- or be in deep denial –- to dismiss the President’s claim as unsupported. On the contrary, we’re finding out more almost every day that lends support to the President’s claim –- so much support that it’s hard to keep up with it all. We KNOW the spy was there, who he is and essentially what he was doing, along with a growing cast of supporting characters. We now have a timeline that is at odds with the evolving story from the FBI/DOJ. From the Strzok-Page texts, John Brennan’s crazed anti-Trump tweets (hard to believe this person actually ran the CIA) and much more, we can glean the motivation. And we have stonewalling like there’s no tomorrow.

No, a phrase like “the president’s unsupported claim” is meant to slide through the reader’s eyes and embed itself in his or her brain without any pesky thinking taking place along the way. I recall the phrase “discredited swift boaters” being used to similar effect when John Kerry was running for President.

Commentary continues below advertisement

As far as we know, Gowdy still hasn’t seen those key documents that have been under subpoena since last August. No one who was at that meeting has said they were produced; as I recall, Mark Meadows said none were offered. Devin Nunes called for them again on Sunday. Gowdy is apparently just taking the bureaucrats at their word. And that --- not the political question of whether or not Gowdy is a loyal Republican – was the focus of my piece. It wasn’t “Wow, Trey Gowdy isn’t thinking like a Republican! Why won’t he support the President?” It was, “Wow, Trey Gowdy isn’t thinking like a prosecutor! What is going on with him?” Other comments cited along with mine in the POLITICO piece were mostly about political loyalty; my commentary was not. Rather, it was about trying to figure out what’s going on, to make sense of something that seems nonsensical.

With all the partisan spin happening on both the left and the right, I’ve tried very hard to stick to facts and not make this about politics. (Keep in mind, pointing out the partisanship of others in my analysis is not, in itself, partisanship.) It’s easy to point fingers at the usual suspects; we can get that anywhere these days. I’d like to think my readers come to me because they’re trying to escape the spin and find out what’s really been happening. I’ve come out in favor of declassifying everything possible without damaging legitimate sources and methods –- operative word: “legitimate” –- and letting the chips fall where they may, regardless of who might or might not be implicated as a result. I was part of Trump’s campaign myself, and, believe me, if I had had any inkling that something nefarious was going on with Russia, I would have been outta there faster than you can say “the President’s unsupported claims.”

I know from personal experience what it’s like to be on the receiving end of partisan wrath (being “in the doghouse,” as Cheney would put it) for deviating from the party line on occasion. Although the quote he chose from my commentary reflects my view, I felt out of place being included in a piece that was primarily about loyalty to the Republican side. There should be no “side” here; if Gowdy has good reason for his odd behavior, okay. But let’s see it.

Cheney --- and Gowdy, too, come to think of it --- might want to read this article by D. C. McAllister. It lends even more support to the conclusion that this investigation was hardly business-as-usual for FBI officials, who deviated from their own guidelines to conduct it the way they did. It was NOT by the book. The FBI has set-in-stone policy regarding the steps of an investigation and the appropriate use of “intelligence agents” (spies) and “confidential sources” (spies) along the way, and the emerging timeline for this case is all wrong. Evidence of a serious threat to national security must be present, and she makes the case that it was not.

For Gowdy to be ignoring that now is truly mystifying, and I’d say the same of any respected prosecutor regardless of party affiliation.

Well said, Mike!! . . .yes, and what has happened to Trey Gowdy? A strange and sudden reversal. Almost like they got (created) something on him.

About 2 months ago Trey Gowdy's wife did a petition to send to Congress which essentially weakened the power of POTUS regarding the Mueller investigation. I sent a email saying this was wrong to do. I was outraged. I have noticed in Trey Gowdy's comments on TV that he said Mueller could make things up to appear you were guilty of a crime. He has defended Mueller's investigation when we all know Mueller was part of Uranium1. It was inappropriate and most likely criminal. That being said, a criminal is investigating a innocent POTUS and it's not because he is guilty but the 2020 election. We have the same thing with Gowdy and Ryan appearing to look more like the deep state and their dog and pony show is showing up. Gowdy has never that I can recall prosecuted anyone who he has been on a committee of. Ineffective dog and pony show which is costing tax payers millions. I want to see results not excuses or another comey let the villains off without any reason. Law is law and we should be putting the bad guys in prison.

I agree, as usual, with everything you've said. We are all so fed up with the lies, the stalling of vital information and the most obvious coverups to protect the guilty! Who do these morons think their fooling? We are all wise to the sceams they've been pulling to save their own credibility. Time to clean house!

Trey Gowdy's sudden shift in attitude and opinion about the Mueller investigation has the appearance of a man who has been threatened.
It probably happened during or shortly after the Nunes/Gowdy meeting with DOJ officials to attempt to obtain the Aug. 2nd scope of authority letter or memo from Rosenstein to Mueller, as well as other documents. This is a bad sign, and underscores the need for a second special counsel and a grand jury investigation of both the DOJ and the FBI.

I’m deeply disappointed by Trey Gowdy. His support of Robert Mueller and the FBI spy is egregious and a serious betrayal. I wonder what the Dems have on him or how much he was paid to betray his country.

    CONSIDER:
Mr. Gowdy's behavior laying aboveboard groundwork for the legitimizing of findings against the Obama/Clinton/DNC machine. Mueller/Rosenstein has widened the scope of the investigation to include any suspected/ nefarious rabbit trail. The FBI has an "obligation to run it out". There is NO Russian collusion found against the "non-target" Trump, except for two loosely tied individuals. However, rather than suppress adverse findings against the Obama Machine, Clinton Foundation, DNC, Mr. Gowdy must establish credibility of the Informant/spy gathering of information. Because the IG report will or should collaborate similar/ identical information amassed against the Deep State. Otherwise, if Mr. Gowdy's position for Trump is one of illegitimacy, then that same position would apply for the more egregious true pay to play Russia/Clinton collusion. The default position then must needs be guilty by reason of legitimacy, Trump is exonerated by no findings; Obama/Clinton/DNC factions... found GUILTY.

    Dear Mr. Huckabee,
I think you are right on. What is with Gowdy? There is something suspicious going on. Why won't Congress go after Hillary Clinton. Talk is cheap. Even on Judge Jeanine, she is questioning the congressman and they say well we are working on it. She is not happy with that remark and the American People have had it too! Maybe he and Jeff Sessions are in on the Deep State undercover pretending to be supportive. Something is not right with either. Thank you for keeping us updated and being an honest man.
    Sincerely, Lorraine Lyon

This is strictly my opinion. Shortly after the President Trump won the election, Rep Jason Chavetz from Utah was the chair of the oversight committee, Then suddenly out of Nowhere he resigned. He had just won big in Utah, and now we (I am from Utah also) had to have an expensive election to replace him. His excuse was wanting to spend more time with his family. Now why he didn't decide that before November, only a few months earlier, left us all wondering what was up. Chavetz and Goudy are good friends. Goudy replaced Chavetz. The rumor at the time here in Utah, and even through the Deseret News, that Chavetz was getting life threats regularly. Goudy and Chavetz would go through Chavetz messages each day to see which ones they had to worry about. Goudy may be holding his tongue to protect his life, unless he knows something for sure. Interesting that he too is quiting after this year. Somehow I think both of them know things the rest of us don't. I think we just have to trust Goudy to tell us what he knows when his life is safe!

I would think Trey Goudy has been threatened by some in higher authority. He is human like every one else and values his life more then his country. Look at the vast amount of Americans that hide under the bed rather then say they are Christians, or wear a Trump cap with thankfulness. They speak of Jesus only in there own church or when they are with their own type , but never as a witness to others in need of salvation. Shame on the American people.

This is extremely interesting & if I'm not wrong, unprecedented rehaviour by our government. I can not remember a President ever being subject to this kind of treatment. WOW. If Trey Gowdy, whom I always thought of as the pit bull for the Republicans and American citizens, is now a poodle and is stepping back from his responsibility to get to the bottom of the major issue that the American people were hoping he would bring to light. So sad. Now, who can we depend on to get to the bottom of this corruption?

Mr. H, I admire you and your daughter , Sarah, very much...enjoy your messages, and my question is ..is it possible that Trey Gowdy , who I also admired very much, has been spied on by the NSA, Obama's group, and possibly something has been found out about him? If that is the case, I hate it because I really thought Mr. Gowdy seemed to be so in touch with what has been going on by Obama and his "henchmen". I myself, got kicked off of FB because of hate language which amounted to me stating...concerning the Guatemalan woman that was shot by ICE, that first she was illegal, no one should have told her to resist the request of ICE agents, and if they did, they were just as responsible for her death ...and that I had never heard of an ICE agent murdering anyone, but I sure as hell had heard of illegals murdering people!, and for that, I got kicked off FB..I think I was trolled...someone else got kicked off for calling the illegals "wet backs" which they have been called for a hundred years !!! so, the left is slowly using this excuse to take people like myself, conservatives, so we can not comment...I had a lot of followers that always gave me the "thumbs up"...I researched all I put on there and did not use offensive language.... it is ok, to learn how to make bombs, mix poisons and make explosives on facebook, but you can no longer state an opinion ....anyway, thank you and your daughter and Trump for all that is being done to save our country...God help us all!

Gowdy wouldn't be involved in this right now, if it weren't for his partner in crime, Benedict Ryan. It's not the first time they teamed up to fraud the American people. How about that 11th hour reprieve of Hillary on Benghazi? Cheney, Ryan, Gowdy, and many more in the house and senate are nothing but RINO's. Who cares what Cheney says? Certainly not us deplorables. Since Benedict Ryan's reign as speaker, every last minute switch or bad thing that happened for conservatives, he's had his traitorous fingers in. Getting the RINO's in the house, to vote with the democrats, has been standard operating procedure, for every spending bill, for over a decade. He learned from one of the best, Back Stabbing Boehner, who cries more than Chucky.

I am disturbed that despite all the evidence to undermine Trump by the FBI and the collusion between the FBI and the DNC, that nothing has happened to bring these people to justice. In the meantime, republican supporters of Trump are being brought up on all kinds of felonious charges. This is disgraceful. We all know Mueller's witch hunt is nothing but a ploy to hinder the presidents agenda and to keep people from hearing about all the criminal activity of the democrats including Russian collusion. This whole Mueller investigation must be ended and right now.

At least, I hope he would, unless he thinks it would compromise his opinion before he sees the actual documents. One wonders why Sessions, and now Gowdy of all people would overlook obvious conflicts of interest in FBI and DOJ actions. Why would FBI really overlook Hillary's dangerous mishandling of sensitive information? Is Hillary really that stupid? Could it be something was going on that NO ONE wants out, including Nunez, Gowdy, Sessions, and others? What if Hillary's security violations, were sanctioned or even suggested by intelligence folks to create a trap by which they could track hackers quietly throughout Europe, Russia, China, Noko - a puzzle FBI/Intelligence has been quietly trying to solve for years. Without doubt, FBI/Intelligence/ and DOJ were weaponized against the American people for the communist DNC by attempting to frame the President for what they themselves perpetrated. But could there be another problem that stops people like Sessions from going too far with this? Is there another answer that fits all the symptoms? And yes, the DNC is being run by socialists and communists. They're are preparing college students for a violent revolution, that will finally bring an end to capitalism in the US, and hence, the rest of the world, opening the way for a "New World Order" global dictatorship.

When I see "strange" or surprising comments coming from people on "our" side, I have been wondering. Could it be possible that those who have been deeply cloaked in secrecy and pulling the strings are starting to feel the heat getting a bit too close ... and making very deadly ... and very real ... death threats to Trey Gowdy's family and anyone else that is starting to step on toes? It might not be too far off from some of the similar plots portrayed on some TV shows depicting behind the scenes intimidation tactics...

This comment regards the Ivanka Trump/Samantha Bee issue. Sorry if I've posted in the wrong location

Part of the Samantha Bee comments disturbs me far more than the childish name-calling, bad as it was. Later in the same statement she tells Ivanka Trump to "Put on something tight and low cut and tell him (refering to Ivanka's father) to fucking stop it." The insinuation of incest appalled me. This is unacceptable in any arena, political or otherwise.

On a totally unrelated note...and yes, I must have been living under a rock, I did not know Sara Sanders was your daughter. That girl has to be my most admired female in Washington! She is grace, class, and so cool under fire from the media. You raised a good girl. I recently saw a 'clip' (as I no longer watch the trash) of both of you on The View. I was literally sitting there with my mouth hanging open. I can only imagine how proud you are of her. I try hard to pick and choose what political info I actually watch or listen to, I clicked on it because I saw both your names. I have to be careful what I allow in my head, as most of it upsets me. I was never political growing up, never paid much attention and the mess we are in today sits squarely on my generations shoulders for not paying attention to what was going on around us. Granted my moms generation blindly and silently let prayer be removed from school while mine silently enjoyed the benefits of our grandparents hard work, as we let Washington run itself. They slowly changed the History books, watering down facts, or leaving whole chunks out totally. Anyway, got off track, my message is so proud of her, I know you are.

Facts don’t matter. What Democrat Presidents did is forgiven. When people hate as much as liberals hate the President, and the news media, with few exceptions, takes their side, it is a losing battle. I know my liberal friends rarely will discuss and when they do it is the same tired comments, like what about those poor immigrant children, and he’s just a bigot, etc. etc. Many of the President’s problems are self inflicted. He does not explain himself very well and he does say outrageous things on tweeter. He would not be my best friend, but I don’t need a President to have that role in my life. I need him to keep the economy going, and protect the country. But none of this matters as the sixties crowd is rampant and holds sway. If Mr. Trump died tomorrow there would be celebrations in the street. Then the country would get a much more conservative President. Have they even thought of that? It would be very hard for them to beat up on a gentleman like Pence. They love having Mr. Trump as President. It’s so easy to be outrageous. What a double standard, Barr and Bee. Talk about hypocracy.
