Summer Supreme Court Fight?

April 21, 2017

If you thought Senate Democrats acted as crazy as an attic full of bats over Neil Gorsuch’s SCOTUS nomination, buckle up: Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley and Sen. Ted Cruz both say rumors are swirling of a Supreme Court retirement that will create another vacancy for Trump to fill, as early as this summer.

Commentary continues below advertisement

The three oldest Justices are liberals Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Stephen Breyer and swing vote Anthony Kennedy. Gorsuch replacing Scalia was at best a holding action, but if one or more of that trio retires, Donald Trump will be able to name appointees who could tilt the SCOTUS in a more conservative direction for a generation. And as Cruz said, as crazy as the Democrats went over Gorsuch, they “will go full Armageddon meltdown” over Trump replacing a liberal with a conservative. Then again, we only have a President Trump because voters replaced a liberal with a conservative. To quote a former President, “Elections have consequences.” And while Hillary Clinton is still blaming everything from sexism to Russia to the full moon for losing, I’m convinced one of the biggest reasons voters rejected her was to make darn sure she wasn’t the one setting the direction of the Supreme Court for a generation.

    Dear Mr. Huckabee:
Issues involved with illegal immigration are currently receiving considerable attention. Criminal aliens in US custody and those who have been deported and returned are especially troublesome. I’m writing to request you support my advocacy to entice foreign counties to incarcerate their own citizens who have been sentenced to US prisons. This can be accomplished under the 1977 International Prison Transfer Program.
There are seventy-nine countries that have agreed to the treaty’s provisions. Reports vary, but there are likely over 100,000 foreign citizens incarcerated in federal and state prisons from the seventy-nine countries that are treaty signatories. Less than one percent of inmates from these treaty nations are transferred often because the participating country refuses to accept them. They cite overcrowding and lack of funds in their own prison system for their refusals.
Reports vary depending to the source, but recent estimated costs related to criminal aliens at the federal level are over $8 billion annually. The comparable costs to state and local governments was over $9 billion annually. Sources citing $20,000 to $60,000 annually for each prisoner in US facilities can be easily found with an internet search. It is more difficult to find costs to house prisons in foreign prisons but annual costs in Brazil reportedly range from $2,200 to $4,400.
I advocate the US pay foreign government to house their own citizen / prisoners. A price could be negotiated between what it costs to house the criminal alien in the US and what it would cost to house the criminal alien in his/her own country. This initiative would create win-win-win scenarios. Proper program use would ease US federal, state, and local overcrowding and save US taxpayers billions of dollars. There would be increased income for countries for incarcerating their own citizens and the alien criminal would not be in the US when eventually released.
    Respectfully submitted,

That would be great. We need another conservative Supreme Court justice to keep America according to the constitution without a political bias. Just hope the republican's are strong enough to stand up to the opposition.

Question for Mike Huckabee - How confident are you that Pres. Trump will nominate another conservative? Kudos to the President for keeping his promise (along with other promises kept) of nominating Gorsush. But do you believe he will remember who voted him in office and not bow to the coming onslaught of the media, democrats, & liberals who will stop at nothing to keep the court "balanced" (in their eyes)? If Trump & the GOP will be strong it will be phenomenal! If he does nothing else, that will cement his legacy!

I can see all hell is going to break with the Democrats on the Judiciary Commitee hearings.

I agree with you. But I believe we must understand the DNC is not playing a game here. They do not want to negotiate nor compromise. They want ONE PARTY RULE forever! Obama broke US law at his whim because he was born and trained a communist and he thought there would never be other than a socialist in the White House to indict him or contradict the groundwork he had laid. Centuries ago, the chamber of the Roman Senate rang with, "Carthagio est delende!" If we are to have any hope of saving our republic, THE DNC MUST BE DESTROYED!

If Hillary had been elected, Obama the Muslim would be on the Supreme Court. About now we would be citizens of,
The UNITED ISLAM OF NORTH AMERICA! Good grief

We can only pray that the Republicans are up to the task of nominating, and appointing another Conservative to the Supreme Court. Bring it on, but know the Dems will try every dirty trick in the book, and then some. I can envision a law suit. Do not know what about, but it could happen.

Thank you for posts! The Supreme Court was one of the reasons I voted for President Trump. Glad to see he's the one picking the justices. Thanks Dimms for the simple majority to confirm them. Now to get tax reform done, Obamacare fixed, and border security moving!

Love your humor in this post! I'm so thankful that Jesus heard the cry of this nation's prayers and answered to prayers with President Trump. I could never wrap my head around the "never Trumpers" because of this very reason. I shudder at the thought of where our country would had ended up had she won. Appreciate you and your love for the Lord and our country. Keep fighting the good fight. You're in my prayers as always.

Dear God, Please give us 3 or more Conservative Supreme Court Justices who believe in you and honor you with their lives and decisions.????????????

You could not be further from the truth! I was not a Trump fan at all before the election but that is how I felt and was very vocal about it at work. This election would either bless or curse our nation via the supreme court for 40-50 years. It could even destroy our nation. Hillary would appoint justices from the far left who would be in favor of turning our constitution into a comic book. Inclusion and 'not being offensive' would replace the intent of our fore-fathers. (On a side-note Governer Huckabee, my dad is a retired Arkansas State Trooper, and he escorted you and Janet one time, and this particular escort made him a HUGE fan of Janet:) ) I'll tell you about it in an email. It is still hilarious to hear dad talk about it:) God bless!

As usual your words ring true....as a fellow citizen of the Panhandle i look forward to your FB posts each day.....let's be clear Mike, if Trump's next nominee to the Supreme Court is Jesus himself, the Dems would oppose him too. I can hear it now...

I hope Ginsburg is the one to retire. She and her ancient liberal thinking must go and make room for a true conservative or at least a constitutionality leaning SCOTUS judge.

First let me say, you are a great man. If the Republicans do not take advantage of the power they now hold then they are not listening to the people who gave it to them. We need a more conservative supreme court for the generations to come. And can only pray that we keep this position for at least 8yrs, if not more.
