January 7, 2020

Mentioned yesterday, but here are more details: A reminder that while House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is trying to brand President Trump as a war criminal and tie his hands to keep him from retaliating against any attacks on Americans by Iran, she had quite a different attitude under the Obama Administration.  By April 2015, Obama had carried out over 2,800 drone strikes in Iraq and Syria, with no formal approval from Congress, and the Democrats who are howling now didn’t say squat about it back then.

Rep. Ilhan Omar is under fire for tweeting an old George Carlin routine about America being good at making war but “not very good at anything else anymore.”

To be fair, Carlin’s routine was from nearly 30 years ago, before Trump came along and started reversing all the leftist policies that were holding us back.  Also, to cede a little bit of a point to Rep. Omar, it is true that some Americans today are not very good at choosing Congressional Representatives.

A reader asked me to weigh in on the story about Republican Governors requesting that the federal government resettle refugees in their states.  If you haven’t heard about it, here’s some background from the A.P.

I’m sure this story will cause anger and confusion among many Republicans. After all, Trump ran on a promise to reverse the Obama policies of open borders and forcing the relocation of refugees into communities that were already stretched to provide services to their own residents.

There was also the claim (dismissed by the left as a “conspiracy theory” but if so, an awfully convincing one) that so-called “Progressives” couldn’t get Americans to vote for their horrible policies that have destroyed other nations, so their plan was to open the borders and replace the electorate with unassimilated immigrants who would vote for the same policies they'd fled.  (I know that sounds counter-intuitive, but people flee California for Colorado or Texas, and flee New York for Georgia or Florida, then vote for the same policies they fled, expecting a different result – or as Einstein allegedly called that, “insanity.”) Obama was accused of busing masses of refugees around the country and dumping them into safe Republican districts, to upend the local political, social and religious culture. Some brought crime and gangs with them.

Because of anger over this steamrolling of state and local governments, Trump issued an executive order giving  Governors the power to decide whether they will accept refugee resettlement in their states.  With the January 21st deadline looming, 18 out of 27 GOP Governors have come out in favor of it.  So have a number of officials in counties that voted heavily for Trump.

On the surface, it seems inexplicable, but there are a number of complicating factors.  A big one is money: the refugees come with federal funds to pay for their resettlement. But there are other reasons that Republican officials might go for it.

For instance, many faith leaders have urged them to welcome more refugees fleeing religious persecution. There’s a worldwide genocide against Christians that the Obama Administration failed to consider in prioritizing refugees. Also, there are counties with more jobs than they can fill, and they think refugees will be hard workers.  Some rural counties are dying out and want to boost their populations.  There’s also a difference between allowing in waves of unvetted immigrants who are hostile to American culture and uninterested in assimilating and letting in a controlled number of carefully vetted refugees who genuinely want to build a new and better life in America. I’ve met countless immigrants who are much more patriotic citizens and who appreciate the blessings of liberty in the USA far more than some native-born ingrates I could name.

But as you can tell from this op-ed at Conservative Review…

…some conservatives are hopping mad at what they see as a sell-out of American sovereignty and a betrayal of GOP voters by their own state and local Republican officials. Trump took the traditionally conservative move of devolving the decision power over this issue back to state and local governments, but that means the local officials will have to take the heat for whatever decision they make.

One problem is that many people who voted for them don’t even realize that this is coming.  They thought electing Trump was all it took.  This shows that it’s even more important to keep up with what’s happening in your state and community, and keep close tabs on what your state and local officials are doing because it can have bigger consequences for your community that what happens in Washington.  In fact, that’s a good lesson to bear in mind, no matter what the issue.

Ricky Gervais wasn’t the only celebrity who ticked off the privileged hypocrites at the Golden Globes. The pampered crowd wasn’t too keen on having Joaquin Phoenix tell them that if they really cared about the environment, they’d stop taking private jets everywhere (like to climate change conferences?) As noted at the link, Phoenix is so willing to sacrifice to save the Earth, he’s wearing the same Stella McCartney designer tuxedo to every awards show this year. I’ll go out on a limb and bet that he also helped save the Earth by not washing it even once.

And here’s another media figure who says undeniably true things that make liberals’ heads explode and that you’re simply not supposed to say.  Oh wait: this one is me…

Between Iran and Nancy Pelosi holding up the impeachment articles until she finds some grounds for them, this story has been overlooked, but it deserves to be spread far and wide:

President Trump came into office vowing to stop out-of-control illegal immigration.  Democrats called him a racist who would deny desperate asylum seekers, and fought him tooth-and-nail, using everything from activist judges to denying wall construction funds they once supported.  Then, they mocked him for failing to keep the promises that they moved Heaven and Earth to prevent him keeping.  Well, guess what: despite all their best efforts, he’s still managed to keep his promise to greatly reduce illegal immigration, and it’s helping American workers, particularly African-Americans who had lost low-skill jobs to easily exploitable illegal immigrants.

That link provides some startling numbers and information you’re not likely to hear from the mainstream media: “The number of apprehensions at the southwest border plummeted from 144,000 in May 2019 to just 42,649 in November – the last month for which the government has data. The number of families caught crossing illegally went from 84,486 in May to a mere 9,000 in November.”

And what’s to credit for that turnaround, when a border wall has yet to be built? It was a change in policy that the El Paso Times says has proved to be “a virtual wall.”

Trump did away with the Obama “Catch and Release” policy. Under that, when someone was caught sneaking in illegally, they just had to say, “Asylum!”  Then, our officials were required to take down their information and release them (on the US side of the border!) with a court date in the far future that few ever showed up for.  It was a combination Golden Ticket and "Get-Out-Of-Jail-Free” card for illegal border crossers.  Anyone who suspected they were gaming the system was called a racist who didn’t care that these poor people’s lives would be in danger if they were sent home because we had to believe that they were legitimate “asylum seekers.”

Trump replaced that with a new policy called “Migrant Protection Protocols” (MPP), nicknamed “Remain in Mexico.”  Illegal immigrants who try claiming asylum are sent back across the border to wait until a judge evaluates their claim of needing asylum. And here’s a detail that should be headline news: so far, judges have resolved over 100,000 MPP claims and found that fewer than 1% of them qualified for asylum! That's a 99%+ rate of gaming the system.

The story notes that as word spread that the jig was up, and any “Asylum!” claims would be evaluated by a judge for legitimacy while the applicant waited in Mexico, illegal border crossings plummeted.  Which suggests that Trump’s denying them wasn’t hard-hearted, racist inhumanity but just refusing to continue being a willing sucker.

By the way, Trump’s threat of tariffs convinced Mexico to take over holding the detainees on their side of the border (i.e., Mexico really is paying for the “virtual wall.”)

While I was in the Peace Corps in South America I married a Peruvian veterinarian. We eventually divorced after 30 yrs of marriage. He became a U.S. citizen and loves this country. When he visits his brothers in Peru he will call me from there and usually says "I'll be back in heaven (the U.S.} in two days. He is proud to be an American.

So sick & disgusted with our country's mainstream media who find praise for the evil terrorist general who was responsible for the deaths of over 600 U.S. soldiers, thousands of protestors, etc. Is there anyone or anyway to hold these anti-american, lying MSM ? You have NBC showing live the funeral of General Soleimani. How disgusting! The MSM media, the Democrats & everyone of the worthless American hating democratic candidates hating our President. When America votes in November I hope huge masses of people vote against Democrats of every level & political race. And a vote against the Democrats is a vote against the mainstream media, who together are the biggest threat to our Nation.

Let's just say that Pelosi cannot buy President Trump the way Obama was bought. So she is not getting paid under the table and neither are any of the others in her Gang! Their money has dried up, but they are probably still getting paid with the Soros money!

Thank God for Trump. Only he has had the nerve to do what he said he would do if elected. The only President in my lifetime who ever had a real job.

Do you think Nancy Pelosi is just waiting to send over the impeachment to the senate in hope that the democrats will take over the house and senate in the next election?

    Just a thought.

Sending Refugees to a district where they build up voters brought us Omar to the House of Representatives how has that worked out also brought us Keith Ellison the former co head of the Socialist party remember how Trump was received by the Mayor of Mlps. another beauty a few people made some noise about bringing in a new set of values to a city or district it wasn't a natural build but an effort to destroy the natural makeup. Obama and the Left brought a portion of a country and put it in place to destroy American value these people do not want to be Americans Look at Omar how American does she appear?

If, by now, you recognize my name, I will assume you have come to know that the crisis we are facing here in Charlotte, NC, with one of our kids being shot to death every three days, is EVER PRESENT in my mind, and heart....THEREFORE, this "backdrop" is always behind what I read about in your newsletters ...which is WHY....

After I finished reading this newsletter I heard a mental replay of the words, "why don't you say something nice about me once and awhile! "....The reason I HEARD a mental replay of that statement is because it is carved in my mind, and heart,

That statement was uttered by a gang kid (who was in a "behavioral management" program because he was such a rebellious kid) to a teacher I happened to be sitting next to. ...and the REASON this kid's statement carved itself IN my mind, and heart, is because I heard it after I had just received an email FROM this kid thanking me for caring about him and, BECAUSE I did, he was going to be the kind of "success" Nicky Cruz was because I gave this kid a copy of the book "Run Baby Run" which is Nicky's autobiographical story of how Christ's love, through the late David Wilkerson, changed his life....where he went from being a hatefilled murderous gang leader to a lovefilled preacher of the gospel!

My three little words, "I love you", TO this behavior management kid, moved him to throw his arms around me, when he saw me sitting in his high school cafeteria, and the teachers looked on in disbelief....On two occasions, two teachers, upon SEEING gang kids hug me, said, "I could cry"...." I could just cry! ".....AND...

UPON reading this newsletter, I could utter that same response because your newsletter is filled WITH all the "nice" things that one could say about President Trump and yet you NEVER HEAR a nice thing said about him from the Democrats!

I pray that the Lord will open doors that will give this crazy lady the opportunity to state that I want the Democrats to be impeached for being a part of the problem as to WHY our kids are killing one another ...since the problem is one of HATRED....that never sees anything nice...or the kid another kid just wants to kill....DESTROY!!!!!

I think the article said 10,000 asylum claims resolved, not 100,000. A typo? Even the, 10,000 is a lot, and I appreciate the info.

Governor, I 'm beginning to believe that Nancy Pelosi believes she is President! After all she has impeached President Trump and he and Vicepresident Pence were illegitimate in the first place so that makes her president!

Thank you so much for clarifying the reason behind GOP governors accepting refugees. I do hope that the people helped are truly those who need help,ie. Christians needing help to rebuild their lives after leaving persecution in their home countries.

Thank you for calm explanations of what is going on. I can't even stand to read the insanity, let alone to listen to it. Thank goodness for satellite tv--had a full day of "Dr G" and "First 48" with a few episodes of Judge Judy thrown in while awaiting your newsletter.

I believe in President Trump and his decision to take out the two Iranian killers and not tell Congress about it. I have no doubt that lil" Chuckie Schumer would have run to tell the Iranians and the Fake news about it...just before he hid under his bed.

I would like to see Republicans make ads featuring Democrats “then and now” videos. If Biden becomes the candidate, there will be plenty but videos of Polosie and Schumer could always be used.

Why is fox news and all fox stations treating Soleimani like a hero.? The should stop talking about him. He is not a hero - he is a terrorist.
President Donald Trump is the real hero.

Now lets get ICE to get all the other illegals who have gotten in previously. It is a shame that they continue to break the law by their mere presence in this country yet they fear no action against them.

Not sure, but I think you overstated the number of immigration cases adjudicated as 100,000 when the linked article says 10,000 --if this is supposed to be the same statistic(?). That's still quite a large number, and the less than 1% legitimate claims remains a telling stat.

We have no business taking in thousands of more refugees when we have tent cities full of homeless citizens springing up across America today. My mother taught me that charity begins at home. In this case it is a matter of America first. I hope that President Trump will seek to get our homeless people sheltered and matched up with jobs whereby they might become self supporting before even THINKING about importing more people here. That is just plain common SENSE!
