HERE'S AN IDEA: SEND CHINA THE BILL
Yesterday, I said that one way for China to be held accountable for the WUHAN virus from WUHAN, CHINA, was for us to tally up the astronomical financial hit we’re taking and simply subtract it from the amount of U.S. debt held by the Chinese. I see I am not the only one to be thinking along these lines.
South Carolina Sen. Lindsay Graham, appearing on Monday’s SEAN HANNITY show, said, “If it were up to me, the whole world should send China a bill for the pandemic.” He went on to say that this is the third pandemic to come out of China, that they come out of “these wet markets” that sell bats, monkeys and many more species of exotic animals “intermingled with the food supply.”
Of course, in this case, it’s not just the food supply we have to worry about –- it’s very likely the “Level 4” biolab and another infectious disease lab near the market, both of which study coronaviruses. (I use quotation marks because the actual level of containment in these labs seems to be much lower.)
BIG NON-VIRUS NEWS: WHY MICHAEL ATKINSON WAS KICKED TO THE CURB
Even though the Wuhan virus pandemic continues to suck up virtually all the news coverage, Democrats and the media (but I repeat myself) got distracted long enough to slam President Trump for something different: the firing of Intelligence Community Inspector General (ICIG) Michael Atkinson.
If you’ve followed ICIG Atkinson’s story in my newsletter and have read the linked-to reports from Sean Davis, John Solomon, Sara Carter and Margot Cleveland, among others, you know Atkinson richly deserved the boot. Of course, Democrats described his unceremonious canning as Trump’s payback for Atkinson passing along the bogus report of “whistleblower” ERIC CIARAMELLA to House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff’s office and kicking off the impeachment. What they don’t mention is all the reasons his actions were flagrantly wrong and termination-worthy.
Margot Cleveland has another great piece in THE FEDERALIST that will refresh your memory on the details, which I’m sure have been fresh in President Trump’s mind for a long time. Recall that when Atkinson received the complaint from CIA official CIARAMELLA concerning a phone conversation Trump had had with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, he accepted the nine unsubstantiated pages as worthy of forwarding to the then-acting Director of National Intelligence (DNI) Joseph Maguire, maintaining to the DNI that this complaint fell within the statutory provisions of the Intelligence Community Whistleblower Protection Act.
The number of deaths from the COVID-19 (Chinese) coronavirus is nearing 11,000 in the US, and the next couple of weeks will undoubtedly bring more grim news. But there are some hopeful signs that the combination of preventative measures and innovative treatments is having an effect. From Israel to Tennessee, and even in New York, the rising curve of cases appears to be flattening.
Here is a link to Monday’s White House press briefing, in full.
Trump offered best wishes to British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who was taken to a hospital ICU when his coronavirus symptoms worsened. But the good news this morning is that a spokesman says he was given oxygen but did not need to be put on a ventilator, and he’s stable, in good spirits and “receiving the very, very best care.” I hope you’ll remember him in your prayers. Britain needs him healthy and back on the job.
I thought it was very gracious of Trump to speak with Joe Biden about the coronavirus effort and to make some respectful comments about it during yesterday’s briefing. We need more of that sort of bipartisan spirit, and I’d like to see it coming from the left, too.
I don’t think, however, that this is the time for Biden to become actively involved in the effort, at least not based on some of his recent comments. Here’s the latest example, which is not reassuring.
Today’s narrative buster, and this one shatters more liberal stories than a wrecking ball at MSNBC headquarters:
Michigan State Representative Karen Whitsett – a black, Democratic woman from Detroit – credited President Trump for touting the anti-malarial drug hydroxychloroquine and pushing the FDA to allow doctors to use it off-label to treat coronavirus patients. The liberal media assailed Trump for talking about the drug, but Whitsett contracted the virus, her health “plummeted,” and she believes that drug saved her life. Ironically, she had a hard time getting it because Michigan’s Democratic Governor had severely restricted its use before being forced to backtrack due to public outrage.
I’m very glad to hear that Rep. Whitsett is on the mend, and that she is setting such a great example by putting politics aside to focus on higher priorities. Might I suggest that she have a talk about this subject with her fellow Democratic state Representative from Ohio?...

HOW TO MAKE A FACE COVERING
Since the experts who first told us not to bother wearing masks to ward off COVID-19 are now saying we should wear masks (but it’s too late because there are none to be found anywhere), here’s Surgeon General Dr. Jerome Adams channeling his inner Martha Stewart to show us how to make a face covering with an old T-shirt and two rubber bands. Warning: don’t try to breathe through a T-shirt that you wore to a rock festival in the ‘70s unless you wash it first. It might still have enough pot smoke in it to get you high.
And speaking of face masks, when the Governor of Virginia showed up in public wearing a black facemask, many people couldn’t help seeing that as “blackface mask” for obvious reasons. Since he’s a Democrat, NBC didn’t think that was funny and deleted their own tweet. I wonder if they’d delete their own tweet if it implied racism against a Republican? Like I even have to ask! Fortunately, the Internet, like the Governor’s college yearbook photos, is forever:
Bible Verse of the Day (KJV)
"Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost."
