The annual CPAC conference is going on in Washington, and there are a lot of excellent conservative speakers there. One of the highlights was a timely message from Vice President Mike Pence to those who are falling once again for socialism’s phony promises that always lead to disastrous consequences. You can watch the video and read quotes at the link:
Despite the literally mad rush by many prominent Democrats to embrace socialism (or to embrace its precepts under a different name) and the attempts by the media and academia to whitewash its catastrophic history, a recent Fox News poll found that 57% of respondents had a positive opinion of capitalism while only 25% viewed socialism positively. Considering that the young are more likely to view socialism positively, the fact that it’s as high as 25% should be read as a massive failure of our current, politically-biased education system.
I know there’s a tendency to laud the “new blood” in politics and give undue amounts of attention to politicians with fresh faces and big Twitter followings, but there’s a lot to be said for age and experience. There’s a reason why the Founders set 35 as the minimum age to be President in a time when the average lifespan was 36. They wanted leaders with maturity and experience and who were smart enough to know how to stay alive.
Those of us who’ve been knocking around the planet for more than (a-hem!) 30 or so years don’t have to rely on liberal professors telling us their slanted version of history because we lived through it. We not only remember the government oppression, aggression, deprivation and (yes) environmental devastation of the socialist/communist states, we remember how previous generations of American elites fell for their propaganda just like today’s are. Back then, the communists and socialists had a term for Westerners who parroted their bull droppings for them: they called them “useful idiots.” I’ll bet you won’t learn that term in a college history class or a Rolling Stone article on how cool socialism is.
(Speaking of Rolling Stone, the new cover of that struggling-to-remain relevant rag features a photo for a glowing profile of “Women Shaping The Future” – Nancy Pelosi, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar and Jahana Hayes. You’d better pray no part of your future will be shaped by them. The magazine also put out a video about them that is so sycophantic, it should come with an air sickness bag. This is all aimed at young people too naïve and ignorant to spot the quicksand they’re being led into):
Those of us with a few decades of life experience remember that before there were “GoFundMe” pages for radical leftist revolutionaries, liberal celebrities in New York and Hollywood used to hold star-studded fundraisers for them in their mansions and penthouse apartments. It was considered quite chic for the limousine liberal crowd to rub elbows, take photos and hand big checks to people like Nicaragua's Daniel Ortega. Conservatives at the time noted that if the guests of honor at those parties ever took over America, their fawning hosts would be the first to have their wealth confiscated and be stood up against the firing squad wall. Nothing has changed, except that the revolutionaries now tell their billionaire benefactors their plans to destroy them right to their faces before accepting their checks.
To the young readers of Rolling Stone – if indeed there are any these days – I offer you this warning from a voice of experience: they’re trying to sell you socialism as if it’s something shiny and new. It isn’t. It’s the same poison that’s been killing economies and people for over a century, just in a sexy new package. It might not be “hep” to listen to older people, but you should listen to their wisdom when they warn you that all this flashy marketing of socialism as something exciting and new is to disguise that it’s really just the umpteenth remake of a movie that’s stunk in every version that was ever released.
