Seeking the truth

October 31, 2019

Today is a big day for those of us who want the truth. Investigative reporter Lee Smith’s new book, “THE PLOT AGAINST THE PRESIDENT: The True Story of How Congressman Devin Nunes Uncovered the Biggest Political Scandal in U.S. History,” has been released, and I just got my copy. Can’t wait to get into it; after just a few pages, I can see it’ll be a fantastic read.

California Rep. Nunes knows there’s a lot of credit to be shared and is self-effacing when asked about the book. Truly, though, his persistence has been instrumental in finding out what really went on inside Obama’s DOJ and FBI while Trump was running for President and after his stunning election. Recall that when all this started –- during the 2016 presidential campaign –- and for the first two years of Trump’s administration, Nunes was head of the House Intelligence Committee; that’s the position that Adam Schiff sullies now.

Not that the Intel Committee is even supposed to be in charge of the “impeachment inquiry” --- that’s traditionally been the Judiciary Committee, and Speaker Nancy Pelosi decided (for whatever reason) to pry the authority away from Chairman Jerrold Nadler and give it to Schiff, who shouldn’t have anything to do with it. If that was clear before, it’s even more obvious now that we know who the so-called “whistleblower” is. That whole stinky arrangement is a fraud.

Nunes, appearing Wednesday on THE INGRAHAM ANGLE, thought Republicans in the Senate would be solidly in Trump’s corner except for one, Pierre Delecto---I mean, Mitt Romney. “The facts just aren’t there,” Nunes said. At the same time, he explained, there’s a cult of people in that SCIF (“skiff”) whose minds have been poisoned. Then, just outside, there’s another cult: the media. That one’s waiting for the "marching orders” it’s going to get from the Democrats when they emerge from the committee, and it runs with that narrative.

We’ve seen that members of the entrenched bureaucracy, who often remain for decades as elected officials come and go, believe they’re the ones who REALLY run the show. To that end, they reflexively protect themselves. Nunes finds that those testifying have extremely selective memories: “They have total amnesia about what Ukraine did to Trump as a candidate. They seem to have forgotten, for example, that the Ukrainian ambassador here in Washington bashed Trump as a candidate.”

The media don’t care if they further a fake narrative. Democrats (but I repeat myself) don’t care. And with investigations into the “Trump/Russia” probe wrapping up soon, they’re too afraid right now to let themselves care. They say that when you find yourself in a hole, you should stop digging, but these hard-core partisans haven’t put down their shovels yet. Late Wednesday, three additional deposition notices went out, to former national security adviser John Bolton –- whose attorney says he won’t show up without a subpoena –- and two attorneys on the National Security Council. (Alexander Vindman, who testified Tuesday, was also with the NSC.) Yes, these are also closed-door hearings.

At this writing, Rep. Matt Gaetz, thoroughly fed up, has filed a formal ethics complaint against Adam Schiff over egregious lies he told on the House floor, and we wait for the House to begin its Thursday debate on the impeachment “resolution,” which is based on a whistleblower who is NOT a whistleblower, and which is NOT a resolution to impeach, NOT officially a formal inquiry, and NOT anything more than a way to codify the ridiculously NOT-fair rules for this NON-impeachment that in effect do NOT limit Schiff at all. So, for now, I think I’ll just relax, put my feet up and read the first few chapters of Lee Smith’s book, because I’m interested in actual fact-finding.

Please leave President Trump, by excusing yourself from this sham of an "mpeachment process". We the American people stand with our President Trump.

Every Republican must stand strong behind President Trump and fight this farce. If it comes to a vote in the House of Representatives and passes, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell should toss it in the trash where it belongs.
