Today's Commentary ---  Christopher Steele to be interviewed by investigator John Durham  --- RIP Linda Collins-Smith -- NYC District Attorney sending Manafort to RIKERS ISLAND ---- Parkland school shooting update -- Al Gore scores in Australia --- A change to the Lord's Prayer   -- Maybe Democrats should focus on the issues?!? --- Evening Edition -- Daily Verse

In breaking news, British ex-spy and “dossier” fictionalizer Christopher Steele is set to be interviewed by newly appointed investigator John Durham.

The U.S. attorney for Connecticut appointed by Attorney General Bill Barr has wasted no time in getting to the heart of the origins of the “Trump/Russia” investigation. As Chris Steele is a British citizen who has been residing in London and might be thinking of dodging a subpoena from our courts –- in fact, he has denied a previous request from Durham –- a deal of some kind must have been struck for him to answer questions, almost certainly including some form of immunity. If Steele ignored a subpoena, he might be clapped in irons, so to speak, the next time he tried to set foot in America. That’s at the very least; it’s more likely he would be extradited right away. (Not that I have any information on this, but I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that Trump or his top aides had discussed it with British officials during his overseas trip.)

With gratitude,

Mike Huckabee

RIP Linda Collins-Smith

By Mike Huckabee

I was stunned to learn of the murder of a former Arkansas State Senator, Linda Collins-Smith, in her home this week.  She was a staunch and reliable conservative, pro-life voice in the AR Legislature.  She entered the legislature after I left office, so I didn’t serve with her, but knew her and respected her.  I’m praying for her family and hoping the police will be able to identify and arrest the person who did this horrible crime.

NYC District Attorney sending Manafort to RIKERS ISLAND

By Mike Huckabee

Former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort is being made an example of.

According to FOX News, New York City District Attorney Cy Vance, Jr., requested a New York State judge to order Manfort, 69, transferred to Rikers Island. That judge has so ordered.

Rikers Island is where they send high-profile violent offenders like serial killers and mob bosses. The “Son Of Sam” killer, David Berkowitz, was sent there, as well as Mark David Chapman, John Lennon’s killer. This seems to have come about because a New York grand jury charged Manafort in March with additional financial crimes. (Charged, not convicted, as Manafort has not yet had a trial.) Vance, a Democrat, said at that time that “no one is beyond the law in New York.”

If Manafort is found guilty of these crimes, the President cannot pardon him or commute his sentence, as these are state offenses.

Parkland school shooting update

By Mike Huckabee

Leftist politicians and celebrities might have blamed the NRA for the Parkland school shooting, but fortunately, Florida officials had enough sense to put blame for that preventable atrocity where it actually belongs.  First, with the replacement of the incompetent, lying, blame-shifting sheriff.  And now, former deputy and school resource officer Scot Peterson is being made to face the music.

Peterson was dubbed “The Coward of Broward” for sitting outside the school in safety, doing nothing while the shooter mowed down children inside. He even directed other arriving officers not to go in. Tuesday, Peterson was fired and slapped with 11 charges, including neglect of a child, culpable negligence and perjury.  If convicted on all counts, he could receive over 96 years in prison.

Peterson made Barney Fife look like Captain America. Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri, who chaired the commission that investigated the shooting and made recommendations for reforms, said, “Scott Peterson is a coward, a failure and a criminal” whose arrest was “absolutely warranted,” adding, “There is no doubt in my mind that because he didn’t act, people were killed.”

Let’s all hear it for the Florida officials who are showing the rest of the nation how to respond t a heinous act like this: not by falling back on partisan clichés and irrelevant political talking points that will do no good, but by identifying what actually allowed it to happen and fixing it, and by identifying those who were really responsible and holding them to account.

Al Gore scores in Australia

By Mike Huckabee

The government of Queensland, Australia, is paying Al Gore $320,000 to attend a Climate Week Conference to “communicate the urgency of the climate crisis.”

This has stirred angry criticism because in Queensland, important government programs are underfunded and farmers can’t even feed their cattle, but they apparently have 320 grand to give to Al Gore to fly in on a jumbo jet and lecture everyone to stop exhaling CO2.

The former head of Western Mining said energy shouldn’t be political; that aside from wind and solar, there are renewable sources that actually work, like baseload hydro and nuclear, but “We don’t have either of these things. We have expensive gas.”

Thanks to Al Gore, Queensland is now paying even more for gas.

By the way, at the risk of being accused by greens of not knowing the difference between climate and weather (I do: weather only proves climate change when it supports the green side), it must be pointed out that as is often the case, Gore’s appearance to talk about apocalyptic global warming was accompanied by Queensland’s first snow storm since 2015.

The environmental activists hate it when conservatives make jokes about the weather, but they can’t stop God from having a sense of humor.

A change to the Lord's Prayer

By Mike Huckabee

It was reported that last month, Pope Francis officially approved a change to the Lord’s Prayer.

The new version changes "lead us not into temptation" to "do not let us fall into temptation," the reasoning being that God doesn’t lead people into temptation, Satan does.

There’s been a long-running debate over the wording and translation of that phrase from Matthew 6:13, which you can read more about at the link, along with some thoughts on whether there might be a better way to say it than the new version or whether it should be changed at all.  As to whether people will actually start using the new Papal-approved version, I won’t be led into the temptation of making any bets on that.

Maybe Democrats should focus on the issues?!?

By Mike Huckabee

Joe Biden said Tuesday that House impeachment hearings against President Trump “could come up very quickly,” and there may be “no alternative” as Democrats vow to dig into the findings from Robert Mueller’s Russia report.

If I might make a modest suggestion: since the findings of Mueller’s Russia report were that there's no evidence that Trump, any of his staffers or any American at all colluded with Russia to affect the 2016 election returns, maybe one alternative for the Democrats could be putting aside their rabid, mindless partisan attacks and focusing on issues that Americans actually elected them to deal with.

Yeah, I know: that’s crazy talk!

What a sham and disgrace with the handling of the yet to be convicted criminal Manafort. Spending his time in Ryker's Island? Where did Mr. Manafort's rights under the 6th and 8th Amendments disappear to? I would suggest that both Muller and Weissmann should join him at Ryker's awaiting their FAIR and impartial trial, for their abuse of power and overreach in their prosecuting actions.

Just a mite curious where the 'criminal Clinton,' and her enabling acolytes, will enjoy their incarceration for the 'real' crimes she perpetrated on the country?

If water vapor is, as some pseudo-scientists claim, a green house gas, the Australian government is making 'global warming worse by having Al Gore talk. After all, what is hot air but humid CO2, and we can be sure Gore will produce a lot of that. maybe that snowstorm will absorb some of 'big Al's' hot air.

Australia , unable to feed its cattle, hired Al Gore to represent the idea flatulence is a major cause of global warming. Al Gore proved the theory stinks but he can easily play the role of a fat cow
