Today's Commentary: Blacked-out document dump of FISA applications confirms suspicions -- Leftist twitter mobs -- Two terrifying incidents -- I respectfully disagree -- Justice department settles -- Evening Edition - Daily Verse

Before discussing the significance of the “document dump” of 412 heavily redacted pages concerning the FISA applications for warrants to spy on Carter Page, it’s important to talk about something else revealed over the weekend that actually confirms suspicions of high-level collusion with a Russian agent.

Unbelievably, Maria Butina, the 29-year-old woman who was just indicted on charges of conspiracy and acting as an agent of the Russian Federation without notifying our government, was able to get meetings with both the vice president of the Fed and with the undersecretary for international affairs at the U.S. Treasury.

According to Reuters, the meetings were set up by the Center for the National Interest, a pro-Russia foreign policy think tank. By “National,” we assume that means RUSSIAN.

Leftist Twitter mobs

By Mike Huckabee

As leftist Twitter mobs enforce rigid thought control, actor/director Mark Duplass became a victim after he innocently tweeted that liberals who are “interested at all in crossing the aisle” should consider following Ben Shapiro. He said Shapiro had once done something for him for no reason other than to be nice, and his “intentions are good.”

I won’t burn your ears by quoting from the scorching and profane venom he received for saying that, but I think it’s safe to say that none of those tolerant liberals ever did anything for anyone “just to be nice.” Deplass deleted his tweet, calling it a “disaster on many levels,” and groveled for forgiveness for daring to stray even one inch off the Intolerance Plantation. I'd say his real mistake was in thinking there's such a thing in 2018 as a liberal who's "interested at all in cross the aisle" and trying to understand different points of view.

For his part, Shapiro brushed it off as par for the course, noting how he went in moments from being someone with good intentions to a racist, sexist homophobe. He noted that this toxic leftist intolerance wasn’t even specific to him but would have been aimed at any conservative who was described as a decent person.

Sounds like Ben has learned my secret for dealing with people who slander and attack you without even knowing you: just ignore them or laugh at them. It makes them even crazier, if such a thing is possible.

Two terrifying incidents

By Mike Huckabee

two terrifying incidents involving gunmen over the weekend. In Los Angeles, a man allegedly shot his grandmother after she complained of him having too many TVs on, then held dozens of people hostage at a Trader Joe’s supermarket, threatening to kill them all before finally giving up to police. His grandmother will survive, but supermarket employee Melyda Corado was killed.

Also, late Sunday night, a mass shooter opened fire in the Greektown neighborhood of Toronto, shooting 14 people before police arrived and killed him. One young woman died, and a nine-year-old girl is in critical condition. At this writing, not much more is known, other than the shooter appears to be mentally disturbed rather than a terrorist. But this is a developing story, so keep an eye on the news for updates throughout the day.

And please keep the victims and their families in your prayers.

I respectfully disagree

By Mike Huckabee

Marta Hernandez at the Victory Girls blog recaps all the foot-in-mouth moments of the Socialist Sensation, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and prays that she will get elected to Congress.  Her reasoning: Ocasio-Cortez is so far-left, crazy and uniformed, she won’t get anything done, but she will serve the purpose of illustrating how radical and out-of-step the Democrats have become and make the Republicans look sane and knowledgeable in comparison.

Personally, I have to respectfully disagree.  As someone who loves America deeply, I don’t want anyone who promotes socialism in Congress, nor would I wish her on the sane New Yorkers in her district whom I pray are not outnumbered.  Besides, remember that a septuagenarian socialist who’s never held a successful private sector job in his life nearly became the Democratic Presidential nominee.  When you combine the power of the politicized media and the miseducation of two generations of college students by leftist professors, it’s scary to think how far a completely unqualified but telegenic leftist who wants to fundamentally remake America can go.

Justice department settles

By Mike Huckabee

A couple of weeks ago, the Justice Department announced the settlement of a lawsuit in favor of Cody Wilson, founder of Defense Distributed.  In 2013, the Obama Justice Department threatened him with criminal prosecution because he successfully designed a blueprint for making a plastic gun on a 3-D printer and let people download it from his website.  The threat was futile because the file immediately spread all over the Internet.  In the settlement, the government caved, acknowledging that Wilson has a First Amendment right to distribute a file he created in any way, just as if he’d written a book or song.  They also agreed to pay $40,000 of his legal costs.

The news got very little press coverage, but at the link, gun researcher John Lott explains why it’s monumental and effectively spells the end of gun control via trying to control the supply or possession of guns.  If anyone can download a file and create a gun on a 3-D printer, then it’s pointless to try to stop crime by stringent controls on gun sales (not that a gun law being pointless would stop gun control activists from championing it.)  It might take years for reality to sink in, but maybe this will be the first step toward authorities figuring out that to stop criminals, terrorists and mass shooters, we have to focus on the software in the brain, not the hardware in the hand.
