THE LATEST NEWS

1. SALVATION ARMY AND THE RELIGION OF WOKENESS" A FOLLOW-UP

Yesterday’s story about the Salvation Army’s descent into the bowels of Critical Race Theory included an update, which has since been updated further.

As we reported, the SA tried to walk back the report that they were recruiting Salvationists for a course of study that indoctrinated them in what was essentially CRT. But Brad Slager at RedState.com has taken an unsparing look at their lame attempt to distance themselves, and he’s not buying it. “The attempt to repair its image,” he writes, “in response to a racial lecture leads to the Salvation Army lying in a public statement.”

https://redstate.com/bradslager/2021/11/29/stirring-the-pot-the-salvation-army-is-bearing-false-witness-in-failed-spin-effort-n483539

“Lying” is a harsh word to use against a faith-based organization that has done incredibly good work for many years, but, make no mistake, the statement issued by the SA shades the truth, by deflecting blame to those who have a problem with their teaching of CRT, while simultaneously trying to deny they were teaching CRT. They clearly were.

CRT calls for white people to apologize to black people for perceived injustices, but the SA denied they were doing this. “They [critics] have claimed that we believe our donors should apologize for their skin color," they say now, "that the Salvation Army believes America is an inherently racist society, and that we have abandoned our Christian faith for one ideology or another. Those claims are simply false, and they distort the very goal of our work.”

After reading both the facilitators’ manual and the accompanying study guide, we can’t say they’ve abandoned their Christian faith –- though we’re not sure who was saying THAT (we didn't) –- but they certainly did further the belief that America is inherently racist and that "lamentations" and heartfelt apologies are called for. They can deny this all day, but it’s right there in their own study materials, discussed at great length.

Slager has the same impression. Here’s part of an excerpt he quoted from their materials: “As believers, apology and forgiveness are not only a universal need but are Kingdom values that Scripture points to as keys to opening doors to healing in even the most difficult circumstances. And as we engage in conversations about race and racism, we must keep in mind that sincere repentance and apologies are necessary if we want to move towards racial reconciliation...[T]he need to receive a sincere apology is necessary.”

So, do white people have something to apologize for or do they not?

Slager points out that in the publication “Let’s Talk About Racism,” “we see little else but the constant drone of commentary about the wrongness of whiteness.”

The book brings up numerous societal inequities between blacks and whites while not at all implicating leftist policies that exacerbate them, such as defunding the police and revolving-door jail for career offenders. No, it’s all the fault of white people in general and the racist institutions their ancestors have established and that still endure. As Slager says, “Throughout are statistics that show how blacks suffer many inequities in our society, from high incarceration rates to low home ownership. Then, after demonizing the white power structure, they also decry the attempt to strive for colorblindness, because NOT being racist is...sure sounding racist as well.”

Slager notices, as we did, that this course refers to race as a “social construct.” Just as leftists maintain that gender has nothing to do with biology, so this course says race is not genetic at all. It’s just based on the prism of skin color through which people see each other and decide where they all are in the hierarchy.

“This entire program is set up to have whites cast into guilt on both sides of the coin,” he writes. “You should not do racist things, but even if you do not do them, you are racist by privilege, and if you treat people equally you are not celebrating their differences, which is racist, and if you work at being non-racist then that is racist because you are not being ‘anti-racist.’”

It’s enough to make one want to throw this book across the room, and that’s just what anyone, of any skin color, SHOULD do.

But here’s something you definitely should not throw across the room: a great two-part series on how the Religion of Wokeness has taken over medical research. CRT isn't just becoming a religion; it's also replacing science. The report is from John Murawski at RealClearInvestigations. Here’s Part 1:

https://www.realclearinvestigations.com/articles/2021/11/11/medical_research_seizes_on_systemic_racism_as_undisputed_truth_its_scientific_credibility_on_the_line_802820.html

As Murawski points out, research on the specific health problems of blacks (yes, being black is genetic) used to focus on such variables as biology, genetics and lifestyle, just as it did for those of other races. But today, the angle that medical journals look for as a factor, a "hook," is that of systemic racism.

“Medical researchers are now able to offer a sweeping socio-political explanation for racial health disparities by citing...hundreds of peer-reviewed articles...thus conferring upon the study of systemic racism the imprimatur of scholarly authority and even settled science.” he writes.

And, again, there are apologies. The National Institutes of Health issued a big one to all who have suffered from structural racism in biomedical research, dedicating $90 million to the study of health disparities and structural racism and promising to use every tool at their disposal.

https://www.cell.com/cell/pdf/S0092-8674(21)00631-0.pdf

The American Medical Association has stated that systemic racism is a scientific fact beyond dispute and that to question this is “wrong,” “misguided,” and “uninformed.” News flash: no scientific "fact" is beyond dispute, because that’s not how science works. These people are just acting as shills for a non-scientific sociological theory, CRT.

Of course, there are skeptics among the medical community, and the few who dare to speak out say the scientific method is being replaced by political ideology, leaving little room for alternative explanations. Stanley Goldfarb, the recently retired dean for curriculum at the University of Pennsylvania medical school, said, “There’s a tremendous amount of groupthink. If you don’t agree with that, you’re a bad person.” That doesn’t sound very scientific to me.

“The whole field is intellectually corrupt,” Goldfarb said. “Some of these are really good people who have abandoned anything like a critical perspective.”

For when you have time, this is an excellent report. There’s also a Part 2:

https://www.realclearinvestigations.com/articles/2021/11/11/medical_journals_pour_forth_hundreds_of_articles_on_race_and_racism_803026.html

The message to scientists is clear: if you want to obtain funding for research and get it published in a prestigious medical journal, just make it about the “unifying theory” of systemic racism and conclude that this impacts every medical and psychological problem faced by anyone who is non-white. I would add that this is the sort of “research” that ends up being reported in the media, treated as fact by the public and passed along in publications by the Salvation Army and, well, just about everybody else.

This isn’t science. It’s political science.

2.  GIVING TUESDAY:

Today is Giving Tuesday, an international movement to encourage donations to charities in advance of the Christmas season. Local organizations obtain matching grants and other incentives to help your gift go further. There’s more about the organization in the US here:

https://www.givingtuesday.org/united-states/

Many of your favorite causes will be taking part and holding fundraisers on their Facebook and other social media pages. If there are some groups that you support, this would be a great day to help (and get those 2021 charitable tax deductions in under the wire!)

4. VACCINE MANDATE WINDS ARE SHIFTING:

I can feel a shift in the wind regarding the great vaccine mandate war of 2021. Liberal politicians, drunk on their own power, thought they could simply order everyone to get vaccinated, even if they didn’t want to, and under threat of losing their jobs, they would knuckle under. They never counted on two things: (1.) the kind of Americans they’re trying to push around don’t knuckle under easily; and (2.) the country needs those people on the job a lot more than they need the politicians.

With the vaccine mandate deadline fast approaching, the pain of all those people leaving their jobs is starting to be felt hard. For instance, hospitals were already under strain and now it’s worse (it was even reported that it’s been difficult for hospitals in Waukesha to help the victims of the parade massacre because of short-staffing caused by the vaccine mandate.) The supply chain crisis is worsening due to truckers defying the vaccine mandates. In New York City, 9,000 public workers are on leave, meaning the city has even fewer police and fire fighters than it already did, and garbage is piling up even higher than it already was.

One newspaper quoted angry Brooklyn hipsters griping that garbage collectors should just get the jab and pick up their trash. Wow, that sounds like a great way to win friends and influence people! Some New Yorkers are finally discovering what anyone with a brain knew ages ago: when it comes to essential workers, garbage collectors are far more essential than arrogant, incompetent socialist mayors.

While the battle on the ground is turning against the mandate, so is the courtroom fight. Monday, a federal judge in Missouri blocked Biden’s vaccine mandate on thousands of health care workers in 10 states, ruling that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services were assuming unprecedented power in attempting to impose a “politically and economically vast, federalism-altering, and boundary-pushing mandate” for which they have no clear authority from Congress.

www.westernjournal.com/ap-biden-vaccine-rule-health-workers-blocked-10-states/

The tide also appears to be turning in the court of public opinion. A Morning Consult/Politico poll found that while a slight majority of Americans still favor the mandate, that support has dropped by three points since September. And Rasmussen found that 55% oppose vaccine mandates on students. That includes 61% of Independent swing voters.

While some companies are still pushing ahead with the mandates, others are taking a stance of “wait and see” what the courts say (or if Biden backs off) because they can’t afford to lose any more workers.

All this pushback and political fallout, not to mention the stock plunge, may be why Biden is suddenly sounding more moderate and vowing there won’t be any lockdowns or shutdowns over the Omicron variant. I get the feeling he might also soon start backing down from his authoritarian “Get vaccinated or else” stance.

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/omicron-variant-is-a-cause-for-concern-not-a-cause-for-panic-biden-says

It’s kind of amazing that after years of cozying up to unions, Democrats need such a harsh reminder that the ultimate power lies with the workers.

Caveat: none of this should be taken as a personal endorsement of whether or not to get vaccinated. I was at higher risk, so I got vaccinated. You can be okay with vaccination but against the government assuming unconstitutional powers to force people to put drugs into their body that they’re opposed to or else lose their livelihoods. It’s two different issues. Besides, if the vaccines work, then the unvaccinated should pose no threat to anyone but themselves. And if they don’t work, then why destroy the country by trying to force people to take them?

5. STUDY SUGGESTS MASKS ARE USELESS IN STOPPING OMICRON:

Even as President Biden backs away from the threat of more lockdowns, and forces seem to be coming together to deflate the vaccine mandate, one thing that we’re hearing is likely to ramp up again in the face of the new Omicron variant is mask mandates. Not to be a killjoy for those who love being able to virtue-signal so obviously, but the director of the Rosalind Franklin Institute and Professor of Structural Biology at the University of Oxford just did a study that suggests masks would likely be useless in stopping the spread of Omicron.

https://summit.news/2021/11/30/oxford-professor-official-data-shows-face-masks-made-no-meaningful-difference-to-infection-rates/

The study compared infection rates in England, which lifted its mask mandate in July, only to recently reimpose it due to the Delta variant; and Scotland, which never lifted its mask mandate. The infection rates in both places remained roughly the same, with Scotland’s actually being a little higher. One doctor who advises the British government said that because of the inconceivably tiny size of the virus, masks are basically just security blankets.

I wish he hadn’t said that. Now, OSHA will be mandating that we all walk around with security blankets over our heads.

6. CUOMO SCANDAL WORSENS:

Every time you think the Andrew Cuomo scandal can’t get any worse, someone turns over a new rock and something slimy crawls out from under it. Which brings us to his brother, CNN anchor Chris Cuomo.

Chris Cuomo has long been under fire for using his show to promote his brother and for advising him when he was being accused of sexual harassment by multiple women. But the help apparently went much further than we knew. Despite his denials of deep involvement, newly-released documents from the state Attorney General’s investigation appear to show that Chris used his media connections to gather intel about the women accusing his brother and pass it to Andrew’s inner circle.

https://www.westernjournal.com/chris-cuomo-lie-debunked-documents-show-called-media-buddies-demanded-intel-brothers-case/

CNN, which has, incredibly, stuck by Cuomo through all this, issued a tepid statement that they would give the documents “a thorough review and consideration," and they “will be having conversations and seeking additional clarity about their significance as they relate to CNN…”

That plateful of mush proved too bland even for other liberal media outlets to swallow. Rolling Stone’s editor-in-chief (who should know journalistic malfeasance when he sees it) tweeted that this looks like “a series of shocking ethical breaches” that would be “fireable offenses at any other news outlet.” MSNBC columnist Eric Michael Garcia said that “if anyone else on CNN's roster did this, they'd not only be fired but blacklisted from journalism period." That’s presuming CNN is considered journalism.

https://www.foxnews.com/media/cnn-statement-chris-cuomo-investigation

I don’t know why CNN is so desperate to keep Cuomo on the air, considering he just notched his lowest ratings ever, pulling just 605,000 viewers (only 126,000 in the key 25-54 demographic), which is less than a fourth of the audience for “Hannity” on Fox News.

https://thepostmillennial.com/fre-doh-chris-cuomo-suffers-his-lowest-rated-show-of-2021

They could air reruns of “Punky Brewster” and pull in more viewers. On the other hand (and this should terrify CNN executives), Cuomo’s show is the most-watched in the CNN Primetime lineup! I have three words of advice for those CNN executives: “’Punky Brewster’ Marathon.”

7. I JUST WANTED TO SAY:

Thank you for reading today's newsletter.

O LITTLE TOWN OF BETHLEHEM

Today's Christmas carol is recommended by William Lawson.

Listen: https://youtu.be/7lWshYhKTm4

1 O little town of Bethlehem,

how still we see thee lie!

Above thy deep and dreamless sleep

the silent stars go by;

yet in thy dark streets shineth

the everlasting light.

The hopes and fears of all the years

are met in thee tonight.

2 For Christ is born of Mary,

and, gathered all above

while mortals sleep, the angels keep

their watch of wond’ring love.

O morning stars, together

proclaim the holy birth,

and praises sing to God the King

and peace to all the earth.

3 How silently, how silently,

the wondrous gift is giv’n!

So God imparts to human hearts

the blessings of his heav’n.

No ear may hear his coming,

but in this world of sin,

where meek souls will receive him, still

the dear Christ enters in.

4 O holy Child of Bethlehem,

descend to us, we pray,

cast out our sin and enter in,

be born in us today.

We hear the Christmas angels

the great glad tidings tell;

O come to us, abide with us,

our Lord Immanuel!

For some unknown reason, the SUV began rolling backwards, knocked my cousin down and smashed into her outside porch area. She has two broken ribs, a banged up right knee and other bruises as well. I would appreciate your prayers for healing for my cousin. It’s a miracle that the SUV didn’t run over her. Luckily two joggers jogging near by heard her cries for help and came to her rescue. God is good!"

IN MEMORIAM

"My dear husband of almost 50 years, Allen, passed away suddenly exactly a year ago November 28th. He witnessed to me weeks before he passed that I was not to worry if anything happened to him, as he was confident that Christ was his Lord and Savior (as do I). However, his sudden death has thrown me into a maelstrom of physical & emotional challenges. Please pray for me, our children, and our grandchildren. (Liz & Family)"

"For my Mother who went to the Lord 11.20.2021 as the strongest Christian I know."

Hey Gov., Just a quick comment, the photo of Chris Coumo at the start of your newsletter is quite appropriate. With his pout and sad puppy dog eyes, he thinks this look gets him sympathy, not even, he’s as corrupt as his big brother and he is the face of CNN, don’t even get me started on Joyless Reid at MSDNC! a meeting about racism and donors; someone had infiltrated that meeting and twisted something that was said (or done deliberately by media stooge) but apparently it is not true at all, I read your link from Red State and their pushback against SA's defense saying it is not real and they are lying. Apologizing may not be mean apologizing for being white but apologizing for the discrimination and suffering endured. All of those measures in SA's documentation though they contain CRT-like buzzwords, doesn't mean it is CRT but sound reasoned attempts at what the media tells us is a huge problem -racism.

Below is sky news australia with SA's retraction statement which is v. sound. Red State's article JUMPED on SA at the mere hint of anything that sounded CRT without really reading through and looking at what they're saying, which may be an effort at a sound, just, loving and Christ-like way to look at other fellow human beings who in their history have suffered from this injustice, not by apologizing for skin color but being aware and more sensitive to the existence of their psychological states and pain.

Governor Huckabee, from what General Keane says about the three major threats facing the US, it looks as if the Biden administration is not just pushing to defund the police, they are defunding the military and the dept of homeland security when China, Russia and Iran are clearly outgunning the US … that is major treason! Isn’t that impeachable?

Given the SA statements and endorsement of CRT, isn't it hypocritical of them to accept donations from white people? Perhaps this is where the rubber should meet the road and we should confront the bell-ringers and explain why they are not going to get anymore donations from us?

My heart is broken that the Salvation Army has fallen for the "wokeness" and is giving in to the demands of some few but loud voices that would bring more division to our country than we already have. Have faith in Jesus Christ who loves all of us and who calls us to be united in that faith.

  • Chelsea Martin

"After reading both the facilitators’ manual and the accompanying study guide, we can’t say they’ve abandoned their Christian faith"

I can! Jesus commanded his followers to "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself." He did not command them to "Never mind the love of God! Love thy neighbor as thyself...unless he happens to be white, then demand that thy neighbor the filthy 'mayo monkey,' who was certainly not created in the image of God, revile himself as being the sole cause of every evil since Eden, and command that he forever cringe under the weight of crippling guilt and self-loathing until he adheres with complete and unquestioning subservience to the Gospel of Woke."

To judge a person as part of a soulless "group" based on physical characteristics, rather than as an individual with individual agency and an individual soul made in the image of God, is the absolute height of demoniac evil. The Salvation Army has, in fact, abandoned their Christian faith. That divisive hatred? It's about one thing and one thing only: the acquisition of power over others. That's Satanism 101.

Hasn't CNN opened itself up to a bunch of lawsuits from the women that Cuomo was investigating using his company connections? That would also be CNN connections wouldn't it?
