Your Fake News for Tuesday:
A CNN reporter claimed there was no evidence that violent migrants hurled rocks at Border Patrol agents when they tried to storm the security fence on Sunday. At the link are reports from other journalists on the scene who saw the rocks being thrown, accounts of agents who were struck by the rocks, and video of the migrants throwing rocks.
Gillum actually gets less support than Nelson among African-Americans
Now that the Florida vote is finally all counted (unless Broward County finds some more ballots hidden inside a garden gnome or something), an interesting fact has emerged that shows the folly of making purely racial appeals. As Star Parker notes at the link, losing African-American gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum, who made race a central issue and accused his Republican opponent Rick DeSantis of being a racist supported by white supremacists, actually got a lower percentage of the black vote than white Democratic Senate candidate Bill Nelson. Nelson got 90%, Gillum only 86%. While that’s still a huge majority, given DeSantis’ slim final lead, that four-point drop in black support likely would have boosted Gillum into the winners’ seat.
Ms Parker believes this should teach Republicans a valuable lesson, that championing the right issues can counteract racial identity politics. Gillum wanted to protect the public education bureaucracy and end the program that lets parents send their kids to private or charter schools. DeSantis promised to protect and expand school choice, and polls show black parents want school choice. There might have been just enough of them to deliver the Governor’s seat to the GOP. All the more reason for DeSantis to work hard to keep that promise.
Not what you think
If you heard about the school in Pickering, England, that banned Christmas, don’t get too riled up until you hear why. It's not the kind of "War on Christmas" story we're all too familiar with here in the US.
At an assembly at Lady Lumley’s School, the religious education teacher Mrs. Paul read a letter from “Father Christmas,” telling students that the true meaning of Christmas was being “lost and buried under an avalanche of commercialization” – for instance, the image we have of Santa was largely invented by Coca-Cola. The letter warned that school Christmas festivities would be cancelled unless the students could email their teacher persuasive arguments for the true meaning of Christmas by November 30th.
The head teacher explained, “Christmas is a day celebrating the birth of Jesus and should be a time of goodwill to all, yet it can be a very stressful, expensive, argumentative and lonely time.”
Unfortunately, this learning exercise added to the holiday stress for some parents. Some think it’s great that kids are being made to think about the true meaning of Christmas. But others are angry because their kids were upset and frightened that Christmas might be canceled. Admittedly, some children might have misunderstood the intention.
I’d suggest that the parents explain to their children that their school doesn’t really mean to do away with Christmas, just to help them understand what it’s truly about. Also explain to them that the true meaning of Christmas transcends not only all the commercialized trappings, but also the power of government entities, whether they be schools or city halls or liberal courts petitioned by atheist activists.
Like the Grinch, some people think that forcing people to go without Christmas decorations will cancel Christmas, but it will never make a dent in the true meaning of the holiday, which doesn’t come from a store. The Grinch learned that, and his heart grew three sizes. Let’s hope that some of the heartless, faithless and joyless people running our schools and other institutions learn it someday, too.
Wait, you mean celebrities who make violent threats against the President of the United States still get a visit from the Secret Service? They must be wearing ruts up to Robert DeNiro’s door by now.
"Have you taken your Vitamin H today?"
Thanks to reader Kipp B, who wrote to express appreciation for the Huckabee Newsletter. He had a great line: “Have you taken your Vitamin H today?”
This made me curious about the real Vitamin H, so I looked it up. Vitamin H, more commonly known as biotin, helps the body metabolize food and supports healthy hair, nails, eyes and liver. It also helps the nervous system function properly.
That makes perfect sense, especially if you get your Vitamin H every day in the form of the Huckabee Newsletter! If you do, your digestion will be better, your hair will be less likely to fall out due to stress, your nails won’t be bitten to the quick, your eyes won’t glaze over from reading boring material, your liver will be healthier because you’ll be less likely to drown your sorrows in booze, and you will be less nervous than if you were focused on ‘mainstream’ news.
So...be sure to take your Vitamin H, every day!
Mexican border update
Since virtually all major news outlets used the exact same photo and led with the same story that “Border Patrol fires tear gas at innocent women and children,” those looking for a different perspective might want to ask the chief of the Border Patrol. He was actually on the scene, getting rocks hurled at him by violent young men. At the link, he details the finely-nuanced legal differences between peaceful asylum seekers and people who tear down the security fence and rush the Border Patrol while throwing rocks and bottles.
Yesterday, I compared the chaos at the Mexican border Sunday with the Palestinian rioters who unconscionably push their own children to the front when they try to breach the Israeli security fence in hopes that Israeli soldiers will harm the children and they can use that for propaganda purposes. It turns out that some of the Border Patrol officers on the scene in California also noticed that similarity, as they claim to have seen male members of the mob regularly using women and children as human shields, pushing them to the front while they hurled rocks, bricks and bottles from behind them.
And yet, according to the liberal media narrative, it’s our Border Patrol agents who are the inhuman monsters in this story. I have enough faith in the wisdom and decency of the American people to believe that most of them will be able to see who the real monsters are.
For the record: The “unprecedented atrocity” (as Democrats are describing it) of using tear gas on people trying to storm our border illegally actually happened about once a month on average during Obama’s term, as Democrats ignored it.
