Our Daily Verse...
The report in The New York Times that former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort would be transferred to RIKERS ISLAND, a notorious maximum-security prison considered to be one of the very worst in the U.S., to await trial on state charges in New York came out on June 4. But since then, it’s been challenging to find out the status of his case.
Reporters love to break stories, but they can be terrible on follow-up. We never saw any reports of his actual transfer, which was originally scheduled, I think, for the Thursday following the announcement and surely would have made big news. Yet we didn't hear about any efforts being made to keep him out of there, either. It all must have been played very close to the vest.
Beware of Leftists' Intentions
By Mike Huckabee
This is a terrific article from the Orange County Register, looking at the Grand Canyon-sized gap between the so-called “good intentions” of progressive “social justice” policies and the quality of life of the people they claim to be helping. The results are anything but “just” and offer more proof of why "I'm from the government and I'm here to help you" is considered one of the biggest lies of all time.
We’ve all observed how government policies in the most liberal cities have led to widespread crime and violence, filth, disease, unemployment, homelessness and scarcity of affordable housing, all heavily impacting the poor and middle class (what’s left of it, anyway.) But this piece looks even deeper into the numbers to show why so many minorities are fleeing places where “social justice” leftists run the show for cities and states in the South and Midwest that those same leftists haughtily condemn and boycott -- but where everyone, including their own black and Hispanic ex-pats, lives better lives.
This goes into some details as to why that is. For instance, the obsession with “climate change” drives up the costs of gas and electricity, which kills job creation while putting a huge burden on working class families. Heavy environmental regulation blocks construction, which kills blue collar jobs while making housing scarce and expensive. The further left the politicians, the more they rail about “income inequality”…but the further left the government, the worse income inequality is (California has the worst in America, while San Francisco has practically reverted to a feudal system of lords living in castles and impoverished serfs taking refuge in caves.)
Despite claims that liberal cities are more friendly to minorities, most of their minority populations are shrinking as they flee L.A., San Francisco, New York and Chicago for “non-woke” cities like Dallas or Phoenix, where they have a better chance of attaining the American dream. For instance, in Los Angeles, only 37% of Latinos and 33% of African-Americans own their own homes. In "unenlightened" Houston, those numbers are 51% and 42% respectively.
Read the whole thing, and if you’re a young person who still believes there’s a connection between how much someone virtue-signals and how much actual virtue they have, then read it twice. And again, on behalf of the residents of those cities to which the refugees from leftism are fleeing, I convey this message: “You are welcome here, but please don’t vote to bring the same garbage you fled (and we mean “garbage” both figuratively and literally) to the places you fled to.”
Defining "common sense"
By Mike Huckabee
Unlike many people, I wouldn’t poke fun at Joe Biden for promising to cure cancer if he’s elected President. Yes, it’s a ludicrous promise – there are many different forms of cancer that researchers have been trying to cure for decades, and the idea that all it would take is throwing more federal money at it is the same fruitless solution liberals have for every problem. Still, Biden’s son died of brain cancer, so I understand why this is such an important issue to him personally, even if the promise is not practical.
I think it would be better to reserve any mockery for those who support Biden but are already trying to excuse him for not curing cancer by blaming cancer on Trump. No, that’s not a joke; that’s the actual news story that provides the premise for jokes:
Joy Behar on “The View” recently disputed the term “far-left” to describe the crazy promises and policies coming from the Democratic Presidential candidates. Instead, she claimed she backed Democrats because their policies are just “common sense.” When challenged to name a “far-left” idea, Meghan McCain mentioned late term abortion, and Whoopi Goldberg responded that that doesn’t exist.
I bring that up just to give you a baseline so you understand how Joy Behar and other modern liberals define “common sense.” She argued that it will be difficult for Biden to cure cancer because some cancers are caused by environmental factors, and Trump is fighting “climate change” legislation, which will make the environment more polluted and, apparently, cause more cancer than even Joe Biden can cure. So if Joe Biden fails to cure cancer, it’s Trump’s fault.
In summation, the defender of liberal “common sense” in the media thinks that Donald Trump is pro-cancer. That is some seriously uncommon common sense.

Democrats left their sense of humor in their other pants
By Mike Huckabee
Would you believe it? Late night comedians are actually mocking the Democratic candidates.
It’s true. In fact, over the weekend (Saturday, June 15), I went on WATTERS’ WORLD, along with Charlie Kirk, to talk with Jesse Watters about that very thing. Leftist media personalities (but I repeat myself) are taking note of how old these candidates are...how boring they are (Jimmy Kimmel said the people in Iowa are saying, ‘We’ve never been this bored, and we live in Iowa”)...how too-too politically correct they are...how unfunny their jokes are...on and on.
Other news you might have missed...
News you likely won’t hear in too many places: A politician slammed Congress for “turning a deaf ear” to the illegal immigration crisis and leaving small towns on the border to cope with all the problems of being inundated with illegal migrants. The big reason most outlets won’t report it: the politician making the charge was the Democratic mayor of Del Rio, Texas.
Here’s another article about the defamation verdict against Oberlin College. This one clarifies the confusion about the damages amount (turns out the jury did assess the maximum $33 million in punitive damages for a total of $44 million as I originally reported, but the punitive damages were capped at $22 million, bringing it down to $33 million plus defendants’ legal fees – still no cheap ride.) It also talks about how Oberlin got to this point – by treating misbehaving young adults with kid gloves, as if they were nursery school students having a tantrum – and how many other overly-indulgent leftist colleges have set themselves up for the same retaliation by victims of the spoiled bullies.
Incidentally, just how deeply were the junior radicals at Oberlin indulged in their attacks on the local bakery that was accused of racism for stopping students from shoplifting? We’re now finding out that college administrators gave students class credit for attending their own protests and tried to settle the lawsuit by getting the bakery to recognize Oberlin’s “culture of theft” and agree not to pursue or prosecute students who shoplifted. It's starting to sound as if the "culture of theft" refers to the tuition you have to pay for a degree from Oberlin.
I wrote just last week about Teen Vogue magazine’s advice columnist promoting abortion to young readers and encouraging them not to tell their parents (even Christian pro-life parents, because surely they’re big hypocrites who would approve of abortions for their daughters.) But don’t think that’s the only thing Teen Vogue is teaching your young daughters. Another recent issue has an article promoting the legitimacy of working in the sex industry and comparing it to the intimate personal services provided by doctors.
Comedian Chris Rock once joked that a father of daughters has one job: to keep them off the stripper pole! Do parents really need to be paying for a subscription to a magazine that encourages them to hop on?
Seriously, with all the magazines going out of business left and right, why does this one still exist?
No one should run for an office he/she wants withoout resigning from one he/she has. Disgusts me (GOP and Dems) when people get paid by taxpayers for a job they don't show up for and spend time & our money to try to get a different one. If you're mayor, governor, senator, Congressman and want to be President, finish your term or resign and then run. It's stealing from taxpayers to keep getting paid and not doing what you're paid to do. If you fear you won't win, then don't run. Show some guts and integrity!
