DAILY BIBLE VERSE

9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

2 Corinthians 12:9

1. Please join me in prayer

By Mike Huckabee

In an unprecedented move, the Monday Night Football game between Buffalo and Cincinnati was postponed after Bills player Damar Hamlin collapsed. It’s likely that he suffered cardiac arrest caused by a blow to the chest. The other players all prayed as EMTs worked to revive Hamlin. He was taken to a hospital and at this writing is reportedly sedated and in critical condition. I’m sure you will join me in saying a prayer for his full recovery.

In other shocking news from the sports world, tennis icon Martina Navratilova revealed that she has been diagnosed with throat and breast cancer. But she said she’s starting treatment and the prognosis is good. She released a statement reading, “This double whammy is serious but still fixable, and I’m hoping for a favorable outcome. It’s going to stink for a while, but I’ll fight with all I have got.” I hope you’ll keep her in your prayers, too.

2. Today's Big Political Story

By Mike Huckabee

The big story to watch in politics today will be the election of a new GOP House Speaker.

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/mccarthy-short-of-votes-as-house-speaker-contest-enters-final-hours

On the eve of the vote, Rep. Kevin McCarthy is still reportedly several votes shy, with some conservatives digging in their heels and refusing to back him. They want someone whom they believe will have more steel in his spine when it comes to conservative principles, like Rep. Jim Jordan (who reportedly isn’t interested in the job because he wants to be Chairman of the Judiciary Committee.)

The danger in this is that it could lead to a “compromise” candidate or deal that attracts Democrat votes and gives the left even more sway. That’s not likely to happen, but as I’ve written before, as much as I sympathize with the conservative faction, if they don’t have a candidate who can win, then they have to recognize what’s possible and not let the perfect be the enemy of the good.

Redstate.com has a timeline of what will be happening today, along with some predictions, history and possible dark horses and black swans that might make an appearance.

And just to remind everyone that anybody the Republicans put in charge will be exponentially better than having the Democrats in charge, here’s an entertaining write-up from Bonchie at Redstate.com about noted election denier and House Democrat Leader Hakeem Jeffries. He just made a statement that sounds an awful lot like what the Democrats call “insurrection” when it comes from anyone other than them.

3. Arizona Governor Update

By Mike Huckabee

Despite Kari Lake appealing her lawsuit to overturn the clearly untrustworthy Maricopa County election, Democrat Katie Hobbs was sworn in as Governor of Arizona. But she seemed to have a hard time keeping a straight face, which I completely understand.

https://pjmedia.com/news-and-politics/matt-margolis/2023/01/02/disgrace-katie-hobbs-laughs-her-way-through-oath-of-office-n1657971

Lake’s staff brutally commented online about Hobbs’ inappropriate giggling, writing, “Criminals traditionally have a feeling of euphoria when they think they’ve gotten away with a crime.”

Also, just as she hid from the voters during the campaign and refused to debate, Hobbs banned reporters from attending the swearing-in ceremony. So this administration is already off to a gangbusters start. Good luck, Arizonans! And even better luck with that appeal, Kari Lake!

4. New State Laws Part II

By Mike Huckabee

Yesterday, I wrote about five of the most insane new laws taking effect this week in California (California’s chief exports include oranges, movies and insane leftist laws.) But they’re hardly alone in passing insane, destructive laws with misleading names.

This week, the citizens of Illinois were about to be sucker-punched with a law laughably dubbed the “SAFE-T Act,” which is about as accurate as calling Prohibition the “Free Beer For Everyone Act.” That stands for “Safety, Accountability, Fairness, and Equity-Today,” which makes more sense because it obviously has nothing to do with “Safety.”

https://www.westernjournal.com/americas-dangerous-law-just-went-effect-like-democrats-sabotaging-country/

Under the popular leftist smokescreen of “bail reform,” the so-called “SAFE-T Act” would do to the entire state of Illinois what Soros-funded DA’s have done to blue cities like New York and San Francisco: install a revolving door on the jail to ensure that criminals are released back onto the streets to prey on the public as fast as the police can arrest them.

Fortunately, the state Supreme Court put the new law on hold while it hears a lawsuit by prosecutors and sheriffs around the state. The lawsuit claims the law is unconstitutional because the state constitution puts the power over prosecution of crimes in the executive branch and decisions about bail and jail release in the judicial branch, not the legislature.

Jazz Shaw at Hotair.com has more on what critics call “The most dangerous law in America,” why the left is pushing such laws so hard despite knowing they’re creating a huge violent crime wave, and how the Illinois lawsuit provides a possible path for fighting back against similar leftist anarchy in other states.

5. New Survey: 49% of Americans believe this about COVID vaccine side effects

By Mike Huckabee

We’ve been hearing for months about governments having huge stockpiles of COVID vaccines and very few takers. This could explain why. A new Rasmussen survey found that 49% of Americans believe that the recent rash of “unexplained deaths” (like healthy young athletes having heart attacks) is due to COVID vaccine side effects. 28% of likely voters say they know someone whom they believe died of vaccine side effects. And this isn’t a Republican anti-vax thing: more Democrats than Republicans believe the jab has been lethal, by 33% to 26%.

https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/washington-secrets/half-think-covid-vax-is-deadly

Despite government assurances that the vaccine is safe, 48% of respondents believe the safety concerns are legitimate while only 37% believe they’re conspiracy theories.

Not being a doctor or medical researcher, I’m not going to venture an opinion on the safety or efficacy of COVID vaccines. But I am a longtime researcher into the field of violators of the public trust, so I will say that I can readily understand why so many people are hesitant to believe the government “experts.” Law Professor Glenn Reynolds of the Instapundit blog made a great point when he observed that if the public has lost its trust in health authorities, that’s not the fault of the public. Reynolds writes:

“We’ve never had a vaccine-PR failure like this, and part of the public health community’s job is to sell treatments and preventives to the public. Instead they took a condescending, authoritarian, and frequently dishonest approach, and now people don’t trust them. Earning and keeping that trust is job number one for these folks, and instead they betrayed and squandered it. The costs will be lasting and severe. But hey, at least they’re not the only institution to betray and squander the public trust lately. So they’ve got that going for them, which is nice.”

6. Kirk Cameron story update

By Mike Huckabee

When Christian actor/author/producer Kirk Cameron wrote a children’s book promoting Biblical values, dozens of public libraries refused to let him host story hours based on it – and never mind that many of them had happily hosted controversial “drag queen story hours” promoting LGBTQ propaganda to young children.

Fortunately, Cameron has a platform to call out their hypocrisy, and some of the libraries relented. So how are his story hours going? Quite well, judging by the overflow crowds. In Indianapolis, over 2500 people showed up at the library for Cameron’s reading. In New York, so many people came that he had to do two readings while hundreds more people waiting in line never got inside.

https://www.foxnews.com/lifestyle/kirk-cameron-greeted-overflow-new-york-library-crowd-message-faith-family-country

It’s funny, I’m always hearing about how libraries are struggling to attract patrons. Maybe they should consider the wild and crazy idea of hosting events that appeal to the vast majority of Americans instead of catering exclusively to a tiny minority of off-putting, radical left fringe groups. Just a thought.

It's great that thousands of New Yorkers flocked to libraries to hear Kirk Cameron. Why didn't they do that during the election???

Governor, Just curious about your views on the new (to me) movement called the National Convention of States. Could it possibly be the way we save our country?
