Today's Commentary:  Thou shall not have the Ten Commandments -- Facts about Paul Manafort -- Repeal vote rescheduled -- Fluid biology -- Lifeway's new survey

A six-foot tall concrete monument to the Ten Commandments just erected on the grounds of the Arkansas Governor’s mansion has been toppled within one day by a driver who yelled “Freedom!” and drove right into it.

No word on whether he was wearing a helmet, but if he was worried about brain damage, I’d say it’s too late.

Never mind that the display had been allowed by the passage in 2015 of the “Ten Commandments Monument Display Act,” in recognition not of a state religion but of the fact that, historically speaking, the Ten Commandments are “the moral foundation of the law.” (And they are.)

As someone who is very familiar with the grounds of the Arkansas Governor’s mansion, I’d also like to point out that the monument was a gift, completely paid for with private funds. Of course, the ACLU, which has its own list of “shall-not’s,” was already promising a lawsuit, but the wheels of justice simply don’t turn fast enough to ensure that people like this hothead don’t have to lay eyes on the Ten Commandments. Before this, he did the same thing to a monument in Oklahoma, but a vandal’s work is never done.

Facts about Paul Manafort

By Mike Huckabee

Amidst all the Russia-Russia-Russia hysteria, it’s possible to lock down a few facts. Paul Manafort, who briefly headed Donald Trump’s Presidential campaign, is currently in the process of registering with the Justice Department –- after the fact –- for work he did as a consultant for a Ukrainian political party from 2012 to 2014. His company made $17 million for the work it did for the pro-Russian party, the Party of Regions.

A spokesman for Manafort points out that this work “ended well before he joined candidate Trump’s campaign” and that the registration process, required under the Foreign Agent Registration Act, began in September of 2016, “well before any investigation of election interference began.”

Yep, under federal law, he should have registered years ago. Very important to have done that. That’s why he was drop-kicked right out of the Trump campaign last August. But read the details of his work as presented in the application and decide for yourself if it implicated the candidate in any way or deserved the breathless reporting of that pack of rabid get-Trump wolverines.

Repeal vote rescheduled

By Mike Huckabee

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell decided to delay the vote on the health care bill until after the Fourth of July next week. That will give him more time to try to alter the bill or win over supporters. Not coincidentally, it will also put the vote closer to the date when a lot of massive increases in Obamacare premiums are announced. It might make it a little harder for Democrats to scream that we’re all going to die without Obamacare if the people who have Obamacare just learned that they have to choose between keeping it or paying their mortgages.

Fluid biology

By Mike Huckabee

Monday, the Supreme Court refused to hear an appeal of a case in Arkansas that blocked same-sex couples from being listed as the parents on a child’s birth certificate. The SCOTUS cited its ruling legalizing same-sex marriage and giving gay couples all the benefits of straight couples. But in a dissent, Justice Gorsuch argued that birth certificates are not a benefit for parents, they’re a health record that lists the biological parents of a child, to help government officials identify public health trends and help individuals “determine their biological lineage, citizenship, or susceptibility to genetic disorders.”

He obviously hasn’t heard the latest news: according to the “pro-science party,” biology is fluid now. It’s determined by whatever you feel at the time. So if you think that your biological mother's lesbian partner is your biological father, it would be homophobic for anyone to suggest otherwise. Next case!

Lifeway's new survey

By Mike Huckabee

A new survey by Lifeway found that “personal freedom” is what Americans value most, while “shame” is the emotion they most want to avoid, followed closely by “guilt” and “fear.”

Which is ironic, considering how many Americans these days spend their every waking moment trying to make other people feel shame, guilt and fear for expressing their personal freedom.

Gov. Huckabee, thank you for acknowledging Bill O'Reilly's efforts to initiate and pass Kate's Law. I agree, President Trump, should also give some recognition to Bill. When I heard that Kate's Law would be voted on, my initial reaction was Bill O'Reilly should be present when (hopefully) this Bill is signed into Law. So far, you are the only person on FNC with the courage to mention Bill's name; I thank you for your courage and integrity.
