April 6, 2020

I’ve been writing since the beginning of the COVID-19 (Chinese) coronavirus pandemic about how, despite the constant blare of media talking heads screaming “TRUMP WRONG! TRUMP BAD! TRUMP LIES! TRUMP’S FAULT!” etc. etc. ad nauseam, and leftists claiming they would have handled it better, this has actually proven the left has been wrong about virtually everything they’ve said for at least 50 years (if you want to go back 100 years, you can throw in socialism.)

You name a cherished “progressive” policy and this pandemic lays waste to it. Socialized medicine takes better care of people? Would you rather be in the US or Italy right now? Secure borders that vet people who are entering a nation are racist. Globalization is good and will civilize China into a trustworthy trading partner. Trump is a backward xenophobe for calling out China’s unfair and dangerous practices and wanting to bring our manufacturing (particularly of medicines) back to the US. The greatest extinction threat comes from the climate. People should be forced to live in dense urban areas and ride packed into mass transit. It’s “humane” to let people live in filth on city sidewalks and defecate in public areas because imposing hygiene standards is bigoted somehow. And of course, it’s better to use reusable cloth shopping bags that are hard to sterilize (and require tons of pollution-creating gas, electricity and detergents to wash and dry) than clean, cheap, recyclable plastic bags.

Notice how when things turned serious and lives were at stake, all those cherished liberal policies got reversed immediately, along with the notions that being called by something other than your own made-up pronoun or excluding males from competing in girls’ sports were actual problems.

And yet, we’re still hearing from the left that this crisis proves they have always been right about everything, and we can’t let it “go to waste” when it can be used to force even more of their suicidal socialist ideas on us.

Well, no: starting from President Trump’s first act, banning travel to and from China way back in January, the left has been wrong (their response was to call Trump a racist xenophobe, while Nancy Pelosi was urging people to gather in San Francisco’s Chinatown as recently as late February.) They continue to this day, so blinded by Trump hatred and their desire to see him fail that they would echo blatantly false Chinese propaganda or discourage patients from trying a promising treatment before they would admit he might be right about anything.

Fortunately, some people are starting to notice. I’m amazed that the Atlantic allowed this to appear on their site

Some of the anti-Trump mouthpieces for China are starting to get called out

That even includes the director of the World Health Organization, who places entirely too much trust in whatever China tells him

People are also beginning to question the wisdom of shutting down the entire economy based on computer models built on questionable data that have so far proven wildly exaggerated (to be sure, I hope they remain wildly exaggerated, and that shouldn’t be a reason to be any less cautious.) But the question is, why are they wildly exaggerated? Is it because we’re all doing such a bang-up job of avoiding the virus, or is it because they were garbage to begin with?

Are the current death figures accurate, given that the CDC has instructed hospitals to list COVID-19 as the primary cause of death even if it’s just “assumed to have caused or contributed to death”? For instance, if someone who's 98 years old and has been in failing health for years dies and after testing positive, then COVID-19 is listed as the cause of death.

And if the death toll is smaller than predicted, why aren’t the media presenting that as good news? Is it because bad news is more politically useful?

In other words, is it really necessary to crash the economy and impose a socialist police state if the data justifying it is obviously faulty and we all know what to do to avoid getting this, and 99.9% of us are doing it? Do Americans really need a permanent nanny government with a switch in her hand to force us to behave responsibly?

Some law enforcement officers are already bristling against being expected to trample people’s rights, even in the name of public health…

I sense that many Americans are already becoming wary of pronouncements like this, from California Gov. Gavin Newsom, who sees the current health crisis as a great opportunity to impose a new “progressive” era (because those policies have been working great for California so far – they prepared the state for the pandemic by forcing many Californians to socially distance themselves by fleeing to other states)…

Americans are also getting a taste of how fans of big government control are already salivating over the opportunity to push people around and trample their rights, from telling people what’s “non-essential” in stores so they’re not allowed to buy it, to California cops arresting a man for surfing all alone (was he spreading the virus to the dolphins? FYI: he wouldn’t have had contact with any humans at all if it weren’t for the cops waiting on the beach to arrest him.) And then there’s the Pennsylvania teenager facing a $200 fine after state police cited her for taking a drive by herself just to get out of the house. Again, how was she spreading the virus inside her closed car? She obviously wasn’t, but the authorities are spreading the virus of authoritarianism.

Just as the empty toilet paper shelves are giving Americans a taste of what shopping is like under socialism, stories like these are giving them a taste of how much personal freedom you enjoy under it. Let’s hope that the silver lining of this terrible time is that it will end with not only far fewer deaths than feared (largely due to individuals taking responsibility, not government coercion) and with the eradication of the coronavirus, but also the eradication of a lot of fantasies about how great a socialist America would be. All that will take is a healthy dose of reality.

For those who enjoy their doses of reality with a side order of sarcastic humor, here’s Kurt Schichter’s latest, on “why you should never give power to someone who enjoys it.”

And today’s Must-Read: Tim Blair of Australia’s Daily Telegraph delivers a line-by-line response to the Chinese government’s indignant complaint that criticism of them is false and unfair. This gives new meaning to the phrase, “a verbal beatdown”…

As long as we’re questioning the stock buys of various Congressional insiders who might have known the coronavirus disruption was coming, maybe we should add one more name to the list. After all, we know how much she loves investigations to make sure powerful political figures aren’t doing anything that violates her strict code of ethics.

A big salute to today’s Huck’s Hero, retiree Allan Marshall of St. Clair Shores, Michigan. He’d saved up $900 to buy a knife sharpener. But with his mom in a nursing home and his wife working at Blue Cross Blue Shield, he knew how vital the work of nurses is right now. So he decided to use the money to help them instead.

Something we could all use: a little hopeful news about the economy. It might have been shoved off a cliff, but there’s a chance there’s a trampoline waiting at the bottom.

Somebody needs to do a study on how long someone can self-quarantine and social distance before going stark raving stir-crazy.

You rightfully expressed concern about the state of the federal government, as well as CA's Gavin Newsom following the subsiding of the pandemic. I agree with your concern, and feel we need to talk about accountability for the governance during a national emergency versus peace time governance. We really need to do some planning of the retraction of rules and operations not needed, yet keep an excellent record of what works when we need it and how to implement necessary measures, then remove them to restore normal constitutional operation during any future emergency (adapting details as needed).

Regarding this AM message, CA has done a bang-up job of removing Pacific Gas ans Electric (PG&E) from its maintenance, as well as expansion budget, for the foreseeable future by forcing them to pay to rebuild the town burned down by an absolutely unreal wind storm that may have downed a power distribution line to initiate the flames; the price tag is in the hundreds of billions of dollars. Maybe the CA Public Utilities Commission and its partners could take a swipe at the Chinese at the UN high court regarding the coronavirus initiation and spread.

Since I am in the "venerable" age group, with underlying medical issues, I was lovingly asked by my pastor in mid-March to self-quarantine (which I have done). My husband - who is also in the same two categories - but whose volunteer (sheriff's dept. chaplain) and part-time hospice chaplain - have deemed him as "essential". Our FL governor has also urged 30-day stay-at-home./ I respect the doctors on the WH Covid-19 task force, but I am disturbed about the University of Washington "models" (which have admittedly been way off in the estimates). Due to the economic, mental health, and other issues of being "locked down", I'm concerned about the increasing suppression of religious liberty, public discourse, etc. at the expense of social progressive policies.

Thank you for all you do to keep so many of us grounded! I depend on your view and your perspective from years of involvement in the political side of the USA to keep me headed in the right direction in the middle of all this political chaos and upheaval! And now - PANDEMIC!! I value your opinion greatly and respect your morals, your love and, yes, fear of our Most Holy God, your wisdom and your ability to bring out a laugh in the most dire and unbelievable situations....God bless you in your ministries around the world and for giving us a compass to help keep our eyes on where we’re trying to go! I know we’re just NOT HOME YET, but I desperately need your wisdom to help in all this craziness we find ourselves. I Pray for you, asking God to continue to bless you and yours! P.S. love your beautiful baby girl! She is amazing and I know you are so rightly proud of her!

I pretty much ignore predictions--which change sometimes by the hour, it seems. Especially when I hear there is some "model" these predictions are based on. Oh, would that be like the "scientific" models that completely missed the mark about the amount of global warming a couple years back? That, I assume, were part of the reason it was changed to- climate change. I'm not sure exactly what info these models were based on, but if those who produced them had looked into climate reports from the hundred or so years--they would have noticed CYCLES of change.

I also have trouble believing any reporting of numbers of cases, numbers of deaths, numbers of recovery--which also go up and down on what seems to be an hourly basis. Are the "cases" only those that are verified by testing, or by guessing maybe my not feeling well for a couple of days can be counted? I'm particularly disturbed by the mandate of CDC to have the virus listed on many death certificates--in particular where there was no testing done. So, whose idea is this? People in the CDC? The administration or task force? No matter who is behind it, it is, IMO, false reporting and what seems to be an all-out effort to pad the numbers.

Even in my wide open space where the governor's last mandate is not only stay-at-home but just recently included churches and funerals to go by the no more than 10 people at a gathering. All the funeral notices I was reading even before that was funerals (or memorial services) would be at a later date, because of the number of attendees allowed. And, many (probably most) churches already had gone to internet streaming, etc services. Heck services from various churches have had radio and tv broadcasts for YEARS. However we do see the occasional pastor and congregation who poo-poo that--one would think that they would rather err on the side of caution, but that's just me. We do still get to go to the grocery store, and so far, no neighborhood busy bodies seem to be checking on and reporting whether or not we are buying what THEY would consider essential.

My take (and I'm not alone) about the msm and the anti-Trumper politicians etc continuing to make blatantly false statements about numbers, who's to blame, etc etc etc is that they, as on late night bozo said, they don't want the economy to recover, they want everything to bottom out, get a good recession going (paraphrased) and when asked about the citizens, it was, oh, well. Collateral damage. Too bad.

There are people all over the country doing good for their fellow citizens. Kudos to Mr. Marshall and all the others who are stepping up to do what they can. Without having to be ordered by state or federal government to do so.

I was reading something pelosi was allegedly complaining about, that the President has not mandated companies to change production to virus fighting supplies. I just smh, because had just read about 3M ramping up production, My Pillow and other companies changing at least a part of the lines to pump out 50,000 masks a day, etc. Small breweries changing production lines to include making hand sanitizer. It was a rather long list. I don't know if pelosi and friends think companies won't step up to the plate without being ordered. Or, perhaps they are jealous because it is being done WITHOUT any order!!! (P.S. I read the Kennedy Center decided to pay laid off employees when there were plans to make them return their (ill-gotten) funds. I have not read anything about the other non-crisis entities that are doing NOTHING to combat the crisis turning back even a portion of their (ill-gotten) funds. Shame on them. Shame on pelosi and friends for insisting these funds be included and shame on legislators who let them get away with it.

I appreciate your willingness to check out stories and report them after verifying their accuracy. Regarding this coronavirus issue, I am hoping you would check out a Dr. Eric Nepute, who is a chiropractor in St. Louis. He recently posted a video on Facebook where he was calling out the media for fake news regarding the coronavirus. I find it interesting that Facebook took it down and anyone who happened to get the video and posts it finds that it is removed as well.
In the video, he expresses his concerns for our health as well as our freedoms. Be aware that if you find this video, it has some rough language as he really gets fired up over the deception that is going on. I am usually skeptical of a lot of things but this somehow rings true and he makes
a lot of sense. I am a Baptist pastor in California trying to keep my congregation (many of whom are high risk due to their age) calm and encouraged. Thank you for being a light for our Lord in a difficult time.

To re enforce your info about China manufacturing our medicine it brings to mind when I was in the Air Force I worked on the F15 aircraft and I was shocked to find out that the skin of the aircraft was made of titanium, the only country in the world that has titanium is Russia, now this was in the late 70's when we were still in the cold war.

The Chinese leadership is not our friend. I would go so far as to say they aren't even good neighbors. They lie, steal and cheat with immunity. But because the US is driven with dollars, people and companies make asinine decisions to sell them national assets in the interest of making a buck. The Chinese are steadily buying US companies, whether in publishing, Forbes, or entertainment, (too many to list) or foods, Smithfield Foods being a big one. Most likely after our time, China will owe enough farm land and food companies to shut off the spigot of food grown in the US but shipped back to China. There will be crops growing everywhere, but no food on the shelves. Our grocery stores will start to look like Russian stores, with high prices and limited selections. We are so stupid that the federal government allows federal employees, (read that to include our military) retirement funds to be invested in Chinese companies that have the sole purpose of supporting the People's Army to destroy those same military men and women. Real smart.

It would take only one thing to bring most of our manufacturing back to the US, Decrease the corporate tax rate to less than that of China. Business exist to make a profit for themselves and their stock holders. Here to fore, there has not been any real emphasis on vital products, like pharmaceuticals and PPE's, being produced in the US. Therefore, companies produce products where they can make the most profit for their stock holders.

The Dems are absolutely gleeful over this emergency. They are "making hay." And the MSM, their sidekicks and propaganda wing, are fanning the hysteria flames and using everything Trump does to call him out. They think this is going to win the Presidency/Congress for them. I just pray that Trump voters turn out in hordes and the limp, half-hearted Biden supporters fuhgedabowdit. Trump deserves a 2nd term, especially to come into his own and get rid of these treacherous Dems an anti-Trumpers. I want him to be able to raise his head high and smile big.

Thank you for including a Bible verse. I believe China has not been held accountable for their hand in this virus. I am a nurse, starting to work at a different hospital this weekend and hope there are enough masks to protect all medical personal. I hear of American companies switching their equipment over to produce masks, gowns and gloves.... so where are they? We are still issued one surgical mask to wear until it breaks or is soiled. After wearing it for a 12 hour shift, we store it in a brown paper bag until needing it for the next shift we work. I work five 12 hour shifts in a row. We NEED personal protective equipment!

I've been saying what you have just said from the beginning: Once the "Powers That Be" get a taste of power over us ordinary peons, when will they relinquish this power? First it was "two weeks," then ANOTHER "two weeks," and now it's "the end of April." When will we come to our senses and realize that this is just a REHEARSAL for the Socialist / Communist transformation of America?
    1) People are now instructed to "socially distance" themselves from everyone else... "just in case." When are they going to say "it's now safe to go back to normal interaction"? Answer: Never, because we will never trust that the dreaded CV-19 is GONE.
    2) People are now urged to put themselves first -- "Be Safe." When will the attitude of American self-sacrifice return? Answer: Never, because the "greatest generation" has seemingly not passed on its own emphasis on self-sacrifice to those who are being "ultra safe" -- and hoarding and fleeing and criticizing and...the list goes on!
    3) People are not allowed to do anything "non-essential" -- including participating in religious gatherings! Christians are now in Holy Week -- meditating on Palm Sunday, Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Glorious Easter, but we have been endlessly lectured that, in order to be "safe" and to "respect governmental authority," we have to give up all assemblies in honor of our Lord and Savior! First, the atheists insisted there was a (fictional) "separation of church and state" -- and NOW all the politicians do is lecture us how "dangerous" it is to pray together! They can't have it BOTH ways!!!!
    4) The next time we have a Chinese-invented pandemic, will we shut down America again? How many time will we repeat this scenario before the Enemy wins?

So much to cover: As an octogenarian I look back a lot and have often stated that a Good Depression might bring America to it's senses. I'm reminded of what NOT to wish for. Following the media has become more depressing than being in solitary confinement for 6 months { actual tour of duty on a Nuclear Submarine, I actually started on one 16 ft. in diameter with a crew of 100 and oxygen deprivation was a reality}.. How embarrassed is the Left and the media, redundant I know, going to be when it's uncovered this was actually an experiment gone bad or a rogue lab worker making some side money by selling the Biological Weapon experiments bats to the wet market? Aside from adding trillions to the national debt, how will the world economy survive if the Beer Virus mutates this summer in spite of our best efforts and the Collusion between the WHO and the CCP to cover the genesis of this virus. We must remember that the Chinese EXECUTED over 50 million of it's own people to create the CCP so thinking that the loss of a FEW MILLION people world wide to accomplish their goal of becoming the World Financial power by 2025 is just chump change. Finally is the media really ignorant enough to THINK they are playing on America's Team while continuing to exhibit their open hatred for our President while he is doing everything the Dim Wits were pushing prior to 2016 and ACTING while the Dims were still in Impeachment mode and have already started that process for 2020 since they are keenly aware they Might Just Fool the Public long enough to see "My DEPRESSION" flirtation come true.

Governor, I do not quite know where to start. First I will say that I so enjoy you and your crew reporting what I believe to be the truth. So sad that people like the Rep from ILL blasting that China contained the virus. The demonRATS seem to have the blinders on with their TDS. It is just amazing. I can only hope and pray that once we get through this virus lock down which I do not think is as necessary as it is being pro-ported to be. I am not a physician so I cannot speak from a position of authority however, with the number of deaths from the seasonal flu and other medical issues that were already happening, this virus while a problem, I do not think it is enough to destroy the world wide economies. I am very fearful that there is an underlying group like maybe the WHO and or the one world movement that is pushing this on us. I am 74 and would like to see a few more years on the earth before I go before God for my final eval.
Keep up the good work and God bless,
