Yes, that's our Quote Of The Day, from North Dakota Sen. Kevin Cramer.

Next, the “Republican” Hall of Shame:

Sen. Susan Collins of Maine

Sen. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska

Sen. Mitt Romney of Utah

Sen. Ben Sasse of Nebraska

Sen. Bill Cassidy of Louisiana

Sen. Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania

These are the "Republican" senators who joined all the Democrats to vote “yes” on the question of whether the “trial” of President Trump” is constitutional.

All but Sen. Cassidy had already voted, last month, to hold the “trial.” (Note: I will be placing quotation marks around the word “trial” when it comes to this thing, which is being presided over not by a judge but by a politician who's already on record that he WILL BE voting to convict and that others should do the same. There’s another term for this: kangaroo court.) Cassidy said later that the Trump team was “disorganized; they did everything they could but to talk about the question at hand.” TOWNHALL has a good analysis.

Attorney Bruce Castor's argument got low marks from Alan Dershowitz, who tweeted, "I have no idea what he is doing." I preferred David Shoen's presentation. Here's some good analysis at RedState.com.

Given that this is just a big fat exercise in political theater, I honestly don’t see why even some perceived oratorical shortcomings should change Sen. Cassidy's mind. No, I'm thinking it's more likely there's been some serious arm-twisting going on behind the scenes.

You've probably seen the montage of Democrat leaders such as Maxine Waters urging unrest in ways Trump never approached. If Trump can be impeached and tried over language his political enemies choose to interpret as "incitement" --- it doesn't meet the legal definition --- then these folks can be, too, for what they said over the Antifa and BLM "Summer of Love," and a much better case can be made. (And, hey, they're still in office.) Will they think about that? No.

Sen. Sasse is said to have presidential aspirations for 2024. It’s hard to imagine someone this tone deaf even being considered for President. Worse, I hate to think that someone with this little regard for the Constitution would be considered as presidential material at all.

In fact, according to THE EPOCH TIMES, Sasse is facing growing pressure from the Republican Party in Nebraska.

In Sarpy County, Nebraska’s most populous Republican-majority county, the local Republican Party has now voted to join the GOP in two other Nebraska counties in an earlier effort to condemn Sasse, as reported in the OMAHA WORLD-HERALD.

The votes of these 6 GOP senators won’t make any difference in the final outcome of Trump's "trial," as “conviction” requires a “yea” from 67 senators out of 100. At least 17 Republicans would have to vote to “convict.” (Note: we’re using quotations marks around “convict,” too.)

In the House, Liz Cheney of Wyoming is facing a huge backlash as well. Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz has already traveled to Cheyenne to rally against her. “The truth is that the establishment in both parties have teamed up to screw our fellow Americans for generations,” he said. “Now, in Washington, DC, the private insider club of Joe Biden, Mitch McConnell, Mitt Romney, Nancy Pelosi and Liz Cheney, they want to return our government to its default setting –- enriching them, making them more powerful at our expense. But we can stop ‘em, and it starts right here in Wyoming.”

Donald Trump, Jr., said he would go to Wyoming as well to campaign against Liz Cheney. “It’s time to have a change at the top,” he said. “It’s time to have people who are going to start representing the people, not their own agenda, not their own nonsense, but their constituency.”

House Democrat impeachment managers, led by Rep. Jamie Raskin of Maryland, argued in the Senate that not trying President Trump for what they allege he did in January, right before he was going to leave office, was creating a “January exception” to the Constitution. “...You can suddenly do [it] in your last few weeks in office without facing any constitutional accountability at all,” he said.

I guess that was enough to change Sen. Cassidy’s mind about voting to go ahead with the “trial,” but all it did was show that he and the others are just willfully obtuse –- they know good and well that this is all stagecraft.

In fact, speaking of stagecraft, the Democrats were ready with a highly-produced (likely by some Hollywood friends) 14-minute "movie" that edited Trump's words and intercut them with violence to make it look as though these were related. Very deceptive and manipulative. Attorney Shoen went on Tuesday's HANNITY to blast this.

Trump attorneys told senators (while Sen. Cassidy was apparently taking a nap), that there's a way to deal with FORMER Presidents who are alleged to have committed “high crimes and misdemeanors” while in office. You treat them like any other private American citizen alleged to have committed crimes: you get an arrest warrant, go out and arrest them, charge them and put them on trial. It's a real trial; senators don't get to make up the rules. The prosecution has to put on a real case with documentation and witnesses. (Note: the House did nothing of the sort in their slapdash impeachment of Trump.)

If the prosecution has no evidence, the judge dismisses the charges. If there is evidence, the judge proceeds to trial, in which a jury (not a bunch of partisan politicians) typically renders the verdict. Then, if found guilty, the accused must pay for their crimes. They might go to jail, or there is punishment in the form of probation, fines, etc. This would put an end to their political careers as well, which, as we all know, is the goal of this Senate “trial.”

Wait, I spoke too soon. If you're a Democrat, it's not that much of a deal to be convicted of a crime and come back to be, say, mayor of Washington, DC. Mayor Marion Barry served prison time on a cocaine conviction and was re-elected after being released. I digress.

Actually, I'm extremely proud of President Trump and his attorneys for the presentation they gave on Tuesday. These attorneys arrived late in the game; recall that another law firm had been intimidated into dropping the case. Of course, it didn’t matter what Trump's attorneys said; the vote to proceed to the "trial" was pre-ordained.

Sen. Rand Paul had already introduced a point-of-order resolution to preemptively declare the “trial” unconstitutional, but it didn’t get to a vote, as it was immediately tabled by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer. That was on January 26, the same day the Senate voted to to move ahead, 55 to 45.

Louisiana Sen. John Kennedy has it right: ‘I think the constitutional defects of this --- both in the House and Senate --- are overwhelming,” he told CNN before the opening arguments. “You don’t have to be Judge Judy to see the constitutional defects.” That’s why I figure that the Democrats see them, all right. They just ignore them.

Tyler O’Neil at PJ MEDIA has some good observations.

He’s also done a great job of concisely laying out the arguments Trump’s attorneys are making in his defense. These were included in their brief filed Monday.

    Hi Mike,

I hate to tell that senator for North Dakota that every week is the stupidest at the senate of the US.

Shaking my head at this travesty. I feel like we've entered a twilight zone where a man named P.T. Biden has set up a circus tent over the Capitol. The clowns are running a mock trial on our former President but the shows not funny and they won't let us leave.

My Wife and I both refuse to participate in the illegal actions going on in the Senate by giving them any credence through watching the circus going on on tv. Wish true Trump supporters had stayed away from his speech that day and wish the ones that were on the steps had stopped everyone else from attacking the Capital Building but wish in one hand and crap in the other and see which one gets filled first! Already I’ve heard lies about the death of a capital police and we all know now that he was not killed by getting hit by a fire extinguisher. But the democrats are not about telling anyone the truth, hatred of Donald Trump is their truth and they will say anything to provoke their own people to maintain their hatred. No— as soon as winter snow goes away we are heading to the mountains and going off the grid so to speak and relax and enjoy America while it’s still America! Going to vote in two years and help get some very bad people out of American office. And I know who they are! A Republican here in Pennsylvania needs to go away or change his party to Democrap! Don’t need any more rhinos than we all ready have in the Republican Party. I wait for Donald Trump to come back to MAKE AMERICAN GREAT AGAIN FOR EVERYONE!! His only problem was keeping around the democrats from Obama’s cabinet. Should have cleaned house as soon as he took office. Trust was his downfall. A good/great President run to ground by super jealous people.

If the Republican Party is stupid enough to continue supporting these idiot traitors, then they get what they deserve. I will leave the ballot blank if Sasse is their nomination. I will no longer support these Rhinos who sold our country out and continue to ignore the will of the people.
Life Site News was great. I just found them a few weeks ago. They were taken down for their open condemnation of Biden and Pelosi's policies that went against the Catholic Church.

I read your thoughts every day, Gov. Huckabee, and always agree with your wisdom and foresight. Today, as usual, I copied to re-post on Facebook, like I do every day, but today I'm in FB jail, they won't let me post anything- not even a "happy birthday" to a friend. I am so tired of the way we are being cancelled, it makes me angry to say the least. Keep up the good work, Sir. I will continue to read the Evening Edition and will try to post daily. I don't know how long it will be before I can post again.

Thank you so much for bringing us your newsletter. We look forward to reading it. The daily Bible scripture is always nice to read at the beginning of the newsletter.
Thank you so much for your hard work and we wish your daughter Sarah the best in her run for Governor. God Bless your family.

Dear Governor, I am a proud supporter of you and Donald Trump. I agree wholeheartedly with Rand Paul's words and actions during this impeachment scam. There should be a censure, but not an impeachment or a criminal trial, for what happened on January 6 at the Capitol. (In my opinion.) Obviously, I do not agree with the Republicans or "Republicans," if you want to call them that, who voted on impeachment.

All the same, neither can I agree with the constant censuring of Republicans who break from the party on major issues as these. The Republicans you mentioned (Cheney being the only one from that group whom has been censured, at least that I know of), among quite a few censured Republicans in Arizona. (The same threat of censure also having been recently directed at Massachusetts GOP governor Charlie Baker.) While I agree with finding primary challengers for "RINOs" and "turncoats" as a means of saving the GOP from its current crossroads that you have spoken of. To simply use or even threaten censure as a consequence for simple disagreement, no matter what the issue is, is an abuse of power by itself in my opinion. Nothing like the Democrats and their impeachment scams, of course. Nevertheless, in a country that was founded on freedom of speech and thought, and a country that has never suffered the likes of dictators like Hitler and Hussein. I cannot help but feel that using censure for every Republican who breaks from Trump and the pro-Trump base of the party is a bit tyrannical and should be reserved itself for real abuses of power. While I will continue to vote Republican as you have encouraged your disenchanted GOP readers to do, this constant censuring of the voices of disagreement within the GOP is something I feel must be addressed and, more importantly, stopped. I say this all to you not in hostility but concern. Blessings.

After faux trial during President Trump’s first impeachment, I expected second Dem try would be just as bad. Pols in DC r all out for protecting their fiefdoms. President Trump exposed their hypocrisy. Just look at wall they built around Capitol. It cost taxpayers millions.

    Hi Mike,

Thank you for doing this every day, it is needed. I am tired of looking for real news.

I keep thinking of the lawsuit by the Dominion voting system. It sounds very much like the tactic the feminists used back in the late '80's. The "Rescue" movement was gaining momentum over abortion mills, so they sued the pro-lifers involved for some 7 million dollars. I don't think they got it, but it caused many people to fear getting involved, because who could even afford to hire a lawyer to defend themselves, not to mention pay such an exorbitant fine if they won.

The Dominion lawsuit essentially shuts up anyone who might question a fraudulent vote in the future, for fear of a lawsuit they could never pay. My hope is that Trump will meet them in court and reveal how corrupt and manipulate the system really is. However, they could likely change the system so what happened in the past can't happen during a trial.

    Thanks,
    Steve

Soon any thing that is associated with the
Judeo/Christian Ethic will be removed from on line media. It frightens liberal thinking people that this ethic could have a resurgence and prevail. It is very important for Christians to deliver a message of love and support. Too many have delivered a message of tut tut and disapproval. Jesus taught that we hate to the sin but love the sinner. People are practicing Jews and .Christians BECAUSE they know they are sinners. It is not up to us to judge sin, it is up to us to convince people their is a different way of life. The liberals believe if you follow the Ten Commandments you can’t have “fun”. God made most of the simple rules to protect His people from their inclinations. There are so many consequences to envy, stealing, murder and injury, late term abortion, infidelity, worshipping idols instead of God, like electronics and drugs, etc. children are now taught that they can change who they are in gender. Liberals are supposed to respect science but you really can’t change your gender or call a six month fetus with arms, legs, organs, finger and toes, nerves and feeling, a blob of tissue. The thing is they know it.

I have one driving question for you, Mike.
Do you really believe all the drivel you (and/or your “writers”) post in this column of yours? Or do you just post whatever misinformation and disingenuous disinformation you (or they) can dream up for the revenue and profits it drives your way, both for your website and your personal bank accounts as well?
The vast majority of legal scholars and constitutional lawyers, both liberals and well as conservatives, have already opined that these proceedings are constitutionally correct in being carried out. You can live in your hard-right political world of denial if you wish, that’s your constitutional right. But it doesn’t make you correct. You can post references to all the so-called radical, far right-wing “news sources” in your columns that you wish, but that doesn’t make their opinions right either, just opinions, but certainly not credible news sources. I can only surmise why you really write this fairytale “news”. Leading off with a Bible verse lends it no credibility either. In fact, as a Christian myself too, I find it hard to believe that you, as a fellow professing Christian, can even support the man. Your words and your columns surely don’t point me to or remind me of what Jesus taught during his earthly Ministry, or what his Apostles taught afterwards.

I live in New Orleans, Louisiana and I am a registered Republican. I am 76 years old and retired after practicing law for 50 years. Bob and Bonnie Livingston have been our close personal friends since law school. To put it very mildly, we are so very disappointed in Bill Cassidy.

For years Democrats have prosecuted, and often convicted, Republicans of crimes they have committed themselves more than once. It's almost like children. . .who, when guilty, are quick to accuse and blame it on others. The sad fact is that they are destroying America as well as those they falsely accuse. . .while getting rich doing it. 'Power' placed in the wrong hands is an horrific drug. There are a number of "Republican" Senators and Congressmen and women who should never be allowed to run on a ballot under that name again.

  • Russ Jackson

What is McConnell doing about these defections? Maybe we need to replace him with some backbone. I told you before these "closet RINOs" would run when the shots are fired. I would not vote for any of them. I am voting for Donald Trump in 2024, even if I have to write his name in.

The GOP is the stupid group for even going along with this charade. So, let's see, even IF all GOP members voted to NOT go to trial, the vote would have ended 50/50. Then, Kamala would have jumped in for the 'tie' vote...and it would have gone to trial anyway. HOW can a trial even EXIST without a judge??!#! This whole thing is unbelievable and the GOP continues to be puppets to the Dem psychosis. We need to start focusing more on REAL ISSUES TO GET OUR COUNTRY BACK ON TRACK!!!!
