ThinkProgress, which was once one of the most influential left-wing websites, is shutting down and its staff being laid off after years of running in debt (naturally).  The owners, the Democratic Party “think tank,” Center for American Progress, were unable to find a buyer.

https://www.thedailybeast.com/thinkprogress-a-top-progressive-news-site-is-shutting-down

Why am I not surprised to learn that there is simply no market these days for material aimed at “progressives” who think?  Considering that “progressivism” now means resurrecting every failed idea and societal curse that we got rid of years ago (socialism, segregated schools, judging people by their race rather than their character, the feudal system of lords and serfs, typhus, measles, polio, powering everything by windmills, etc. etc. etc.), it’s obvious that thinking is no longer compatible with progressivism.

I don’t know if you’ve been keeping up with this ridiculous story about President Trump and the Sharpie pen and the hurricane map and the media hysteria over whether, after the collapse of “Russian collusion” and every other charge, this could finally be the scandal that brings down the Administration, but there are only three things I have to say about it:

1.  NOAA has issued a statement backing Trump:  https://www.foxnews.com/politics/weather-officials-say-dorian-could-have-impacted-alabama-as-trump-said

2.  Trump has found a way to make money off it while infuriating his critics:

https://www.westernjournal.com/trump-campaign-flips-dorian-criticisms-sells-black-pen-special-ability-drive-cnn-crazy/

3.  I get that some people are suffering from terminal Trump Derangement Syndrome and think they have to rail about Trump 24/7.  But rescuers are still pulling bodies from wreckage in the Bahamas and trying to help desperate people who’ve lost everything, so pardon me if I have ZERO patience left for your idiotic political sniping.  For once in your empty, shallow lives, put your TDS on the back burner and try to focus your attention on what’s actually important, and that’s thousands of suffering hurricane victims, not a week-old incorrect weather map.

What is there about running for President as a Democrat in 2020 that seems to give people delusions of grandeur? This week, on the CNN “climate change” townhall, Democrats informed us that the second they plop their keisters on the Oval Office chair, they’ll start remaking the entire nation, from banning factory farms, guns, airlines, internal combustion engines and cheeseburgers to changing the tax code and economic system, to shutting down every power source but windmills and solar panels, which will somehow magically generate all the power we need (but then, we’ll be living in caves and eating moss, so maybe so.)

Some like Elizabeth Warren made it clear that if anyone doesn’t fall into line, she’ll simply issue executive orders and force them to.  She must believe that the President’s pen is endowed with more super powers than Thor’s hammer.  Funny, since she’s from the same party that’s thwarted Trump’s perfectly constitutional orders just by getting some liberal federal judge in Podunk to put a stay on them.

But possibly the most hubristic of all is Pete Buttigieg, who seems to think that being a not-too-competent mayor of South Bend, Indiana, has not only prepared him to be President, it’s also made him a theologian who can lecture Evangelicals on how they’ve got the Bible all wrong about abortion and don’t understand that life doesn’t begin at conception but with the baby’s first breath:

https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/buttigieg-appeals-to-the-bible-to-justify-late-term-abortion

Never mind Jeremiah 1:5 (NKJV: “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.”) The prophet from South Bend says that until the doc slaps the baby on the butt and makes it draw its first breath, it’s not really alive yet so it’s fair game to dismember it.

I think that can accurately be described as “breathtakingly stupid.”

The only thing Democratic Presidential hopefuls apparently won’t ban is themselves using private jets to fly around and tell the rest of us we have to live like the Flintstones to save the planet.  But as always with leftist elites, there are many reasons why their crushing policies should apply to us hoi-polloi but not to important people like them.

According to Pete Buttigieg (and I don’t mean to pick on him, but he just keeps making outrageously arrogant statements that perfectly encapsulate the attitudes of the entire field), he has to fly on private jets to campaign because “America is a very big country” and he has to visit all the states.  But he can’t understand why we aren’t subsidizing trains because “trains are a lot easier to power on a green basis because they run on electricity."

https://pjmedia.com/trending/buttigieg-explains-why-he-flies-private-despite-climate-action-message-this-is-a-very-big-country/

Wow, so much flapdoodle to unpack in what, in typical liberal fashion, he calls “common sense.”  But here goes:

1. Long-haul trains in the US don’t run on electricity, they run on diesel fuel, which all the Democrats plan to ban.  To convert long-distance trains to high-speed electric would require massively expensive (and CO2-emitting) construction of specialized tracks and power stations.  Also, the electricity has to be generated by something.  The only reliable power source that doesn’t generate CO2 is nuclear, which – say it with me – Democrats will ban.

2.  The fact that America is a “very big country” is a major reason why train travel is not a feasible option. Trains require laying tracks between every point on the trip, including over vast mountain ranges. Even the fastest are considerably slower than air travel, and after a long trip, you’ll still probably be miles from where you need to go.  There’s a saying about trains: “Cars take you where you want to go. Trains take you where the train tracks go.”

3.  We do subsidize trains. It's called Amtrak, and it costs all taxpayers about $1.4 billion a year, even though it serves only about 31.7 million passengers a year out of a nation of 327 million. Although it reaches 46 states, most of its riders are in the densely-populated Northeast, where it doesn’t take days to get from one city to the next. Amtrak has been described by critics as a “mobile money-burning machine.”

4.  As for subsidizing the building of new high-speed rail, I refer you to the so-called “train to nowhere,” the plan to build a line between L.A. and San Francisco, which as of last February was 13 years behind schedule and $44 billion over budget.  Gov. Gavin Newsom blasted it as costing too much and taking too long.  It just might be the only government boondoggle so bad that even Gavin Newsom recognizes how awful it is.

5. Sorry you have to visit all the states to talk to voters to get elected President.  Is that why Democrats want to abolish the Electoral College?

6. This isn’t a factual correction, but it’s instructive to note the way the question was phrased.  CNN’s Chris Cuomo said that critics might shake their finger at Buttigieg, and he responded that “the right loves to sink their teeth into anything we say.” Note how the onus is put on the mean questioners for daring to bring up the subject.  If Buttigieg were a Republican, the question would be, “Why are you such a big hypocrite?”

7.  Finally, note that he never actually answered the question, which wasn’t about trains, it was about why he has to take private jets.  Might I humbly suggest that he try flying commercial, the way I do, which has far lower CO2 emissions per passenger.  He could start by flying home to South Bend, Indiana, and figuring out how to run his own city before trying to run the entire country or telling the rest of us how to run our lives or interpret the Bible.

You might have read about the black pastor in Alabama who put up a sign on his church reading, “A black vote for Trump is mental illness.” It was so mindlessly partisan and offensive that Debra Messing tweeted her approval of it. (You can also bet that if he had been a pastor using church property to praise Trump, Democrats would be demanding his church’s tax-exempt status be revoked.)

But all that is just prelude to this story: According to new Labor Department numbers, last month, African-American unemployment fell from 6% to 5.5%, the lowest level ever recorded.  The gap between black and white unemployment rates also fell to the smallest in recorded history.

https://www.breitbart.com/economy/2019/09/06/black-unemployment-hits-record-low-black-white-unemployment-gap-shrinks-to-smallest-ever/

As the National Center for Public Policy Research notes, a recent Zogby poll put Trump’s approval among black voters at 28%.  Since 15 million voted in 2016, that would put the number of mentally ill black people at 4,200,000, which seems high.

All things considered, Trump’s black support should be higher, but too many people still believe the relentless false claims of racism over the evidence in their paychecks.  It’s still a long time until the election, and when black voters go to the polls, do Democrats really think they’ll side unanimously with the people who openly promise to destroy their jobs and the entire economy but say blacks have to support them because the other guy who’s presided over record-low black unemployment and rising wages and equality of job opportunity is a racist?  They really must think a lot of black people are mentally ill.

-----------------------------------

Dispatches from the Land of Wokeness:  Will Witt of Prager University went to a trendy L.A. neighborhood and asked people to sign a petition to protect eagle eggs because baby eagles in the egg “have rights, too.” Many gladly signed, with one woman explaining that “eagles are people, too.”

Then, he asked them to sign a petition to protect human babies in the womb.  Oh, no way!  They’re totally pro-abortion!

https://www.westernjournal.com/libs-agree-protect-eagle-eggs-quickly-turn-asked-unborn-babies/

So to sum up: to today’s liberals, pre-born eagles have rights and should be protected because they’re like people.  But preborn people have no rights and can be killed with impunity.

I think I can understand why “Think Progress” went out of business due to the shortage of modern progressives interested in thinking.

If you really believe the polls claiming that various far-left radical Democrats would beat Trump by double digits (and you can ask President Hillary how reliable those polls are), then may I direct your attention to the Gnome Poll.

When PatriotDepot.com started offering a Donald Trump Garden Gnome for sale, it was swamped with so many orders, the manufacturer couldn’t keep up with the demand. I’d say this is probably a more reliable indicator of Trump’s real popularity than most polls circulating today.  Of course, there’s no way to compare this to his Democratic rivals, since as far as I know, there are no Democratic gnomes yet.  Just a lot of trolls on the Internet.

Loved the news today! Thanks for refraining from commenting about AOC and her incredible friends When I see that something is rated as newsworthy of them or for them I stop reading. I am almost there with Pete Butta... as well.

I have tried several times to comment, but was not able to. Your talk about social security was very good. The democrats voted to steal the money that was held in trust and invested wisely so that retirees would have that money. They voted to steal it for welfare and food stamps. There was enough money to last over 100 years, at least that's what they said, now it's different. So yes they should repay it at 24% interest like some of us have to pay. And yes there should be term limits and they shouldn't receive outrageous amounts for retirement. I have found that after I read your segment, sometimes I'm not allowed to comment and my computer goes screwy. Why, I don't know. But it is odd.

I just love your sense of humor on your program and when you write. I love reading your newsletter because I am a very serious person and concerned about our world but you give me a smile, a chuckle and put it all into perspective. I love the Biblical quotes at the end.
    Thank you and blessings,

I'm so glad I signed up for your newsletters. I was thinking about leaving Facebook because it's just so depressing to read endless stories about complete idiots in our government. I'm so glad you represent the other side. It's good to know I'm not alone. Back in the 50s, my family was all Democrat. Many of us have left, but some still believe what our parents told us. "Democrats are for the little guy, Republicans only represent the rich". Even if it's true, I won't sell my soul to a Democrat. Just know you are appreciated!! Thank you!
