Remember Ben Rhodes, the Obama aide with a degree in creative writing who bragged about how easy it was to create a media echo chamber and sell ignorant young liberal journalists on banana oil like the Iran nuclear deal? Well, like AOC, he’s the gift that keeps on giving…to Republicans.
Rhodes responded to a Trump tweet with a typically apocalyptic comment about climate change, apparently not realizing that his own scary description of it as “irreversible” negated the entire argument for spending $93 trillion on the "Green New Deal" and destroying the US economy to fight it. Also, he asks how we will explain our failure to reverse this irreversible doomsday to our children and grandchildren, when his fellow liberals are telling us it’s immoral to have children. And if we’ll all be dead in 12 years, as they claim, then you’d better get cracking if you want to see grandchildren at all.
You can find Rhodes’ self-defeating tweet here, where it inspired Ed Driscoll of Instapundit to compile an entertaining and enlightening tour of nearly a half-century of dire liberal predictions of imminent climate apocalypse that was always just five or ten years away.
https://pjmedia.com/instapundit/324165/
They stretch from the first Earth Day in 1970 to the London Guardian declaring that “President Obama has four years to save Earth” in 2009. As Driscoll notes, in 2009, the Democrats had the White House and both Houses of Congress, yet did nothing about the looming doomsday deadline from “#1 threat to the Earth,” preferring instead to give us Obamacare.
If young people, like a certain fact-challenged Congress member, don’t understand why older Americans refuse to be panicked by predictions that we’re just ten years away from doom, it’s because anyone over 50 has already lived through several dozen deadlines for the Apocalypse.
