In the past couple of days, we who are paying attention learned that text messages exchanged by Peter Strzok and Lisa Page just days after the 2016 election made direct reference to sending someone into a briefing with Trump’s transition staff with the intention of “developing relationships.” And we who are not utterly clueless know that within the intelligence community, this means SPYING. Spies acquire information in large part by recruiting and developing assets, unwitting or not, usually for the long-term.

Attorney General Bill Barr himself has said he believes spying did take place, and that now he has to determine whether or not it was properly “predicated” (justified). Before he dared to say the word “spy,” It was obvious that members of candidate Trump’s campaign staff had been, well, surveilled. Hundreds of names in classified transcripts of recorded conversations were unmasked, and some of these were illegally leaked. It went even further than eavesdropping over the phone, as some campaign advisers realized they were being contacted, engaged in conversation and oddly “set up” for meetings.

With gratitude,

Bigots at the NYT and elsewhere

By Mike Huckabee

Following this weekend’s horrific shooting in a California synagogue, here are how some of the leading Democratic candidates for President responded. There was a lot of condemnation of gun ownership, but barely a word condemning anti-Semitism.

For the record, President Trump responded that the shooting "looked like a hate crime" and later said at a rally in Wisconsin, “Our entire nation mourns the loss of life, prays for the wounded and stands in solidarity with the Jewish community. We forcefully condemn the evils of anti-Semitism and hate, which must be defeated."

The truth about the "Green New Deal"

By Mike Huckabee

f it’s true that, as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez claims, we’re all going to be dead in 12 years if her “Green New Deal” doesn’t become law, then I have some bad news: we’re all going to die anyway because the Green New Deal may cost over $90 trillion, but it won’t make a dime’s worth of difference to the climate.

(Not to be outdone on the doomsday prediction front, “Beto” O’Rourke gives us only 10 years. Conversely, I give his campaign only about 10 more months. Or at this rate, maybe 10 weeks.)

The Daily Wire reports that the American Enterprise Institute just released a study of the Green New Deal, breaking it down into separate policy proposals and assessing each by cost and effectiveness toward achieving the goal of “net zero carbon emissions” by 2050.

Media "nerd prom"

By Mike Huckabee

What if the media threw a “nerd prom” and nobody came?  Or at least, nobody famous paid any attention?  That’s exactly what happened this weekend, when the White House Correspondents Association held its annual dinner in Washington, and I’ll bet this is the first you’ve even heard about it.

After years of that event degenerating into a flashy, self-congratulatory and blatantly partisan evening of nasty attacks on Republicans, President Trump delivered the first blow by refusing to attend, instead opting for a rally where he could spend time with some friendly faces for a change.  Last year’s Trump-less dinner, which my daughter Sarah was gracious enough to attend, only to be savaged by a relentlessly unfunny leftist “comedian,” was the death knell.

This year, they held the dinner and it made all the noise of a tree falling in an empty woods.  Meanwhile, Trump attended a rally in Green Bay that attracted a huge crowd of cheering fans.  Sarah was an honored guest and was so popular with the crowd, Trump jokingly told her, “You’re fired!”

You can see clips of it at the link, and just for the clueless liberal journalists going back to work after the WHCA dinner: yes, Trump was joking.  She wasn’t really fired.  It's like when he joked that Russia should share Hillary’s emails with the FBI, he wasn’t inviting them to hack her already-wiped clean server.  That was a joke, too.  I’m just trying to be helpful because after attending last year’s WHCA dinner, you might not remember that a “joke” is something that’s supposed to be funny.

Mistake after mistake by NYT

By Mike Huckabee

Didn’t like the offensive cartoon the New York Times ran about Benjamin Netanyahu, then yanked but didn’t apologize for, then finally said they were sorry about promoting anti-Semitism?  Never fear: the editors had another one on deck as a back-up.

But we wouldn’t want you to think that the esteemed Times editors are just harboring private feelings of anti-Semitism.  They’re also worried about all this desegregation they’re hearing about down South.

PJ Media’s Richard Fernandez considered how the Times editors gradually allowed themselves to become that which they claim to hate, apparently without even realizing it.  I’d say it all starts with a word you don’t hear much these days, but you see a lot of what it stands for: hubris.

Quiet note to Sen. Chuck Grassley

By Mike Huckabee

Quiet note to Sen. Chuck Grassley: I appreciate your frustration and the farmers’ suffering.  But didn’t we learn from Obama what a lousy idea it is when you are in standoff to tell your adversary exactly how long he has to hold out before you’ll cave in and give up?

Harris struggles

By Mike Huckabee

Struggling at a distant third in the Democratic Presidential polls, Sen. Kamala Harris looked around for something to demonize, and (like Prof. Harold Hill warning against a pool table in River City) to get Iowa voters worked up about.  And her desperate gaze fell upon that terrible threat to America…uh…McDonald’s!  Yeah, that’s it, McDonald’s!  Ya got trouble under those Golden Arches, luring in the shirttail young ones and exploiting them by not supporting a $15 minimum wage!

I hate to put a damper on the parade before the 76 trombones show up, but McDonald’s has a long history of employing young people, teaching them valuable work skills, helping fund their educations and promoting them to positions of greater pay, benefits and responsibility.  I’ll bet a good number of the successful people you know started out working at McDonald’s.  Meanwhile, proponents of the $15 minimum wage have an ever-growing history of killing off restaurants and costing the people who worked there their jobs.

Personally, I think if Ronald McDonald joined the Democratic race for President – and that news wouldn’t surprise me at all – he’d be the only clown in it so far that I could imagine voting for.
