Speaking of Joe Manchin selling out his principles, it’s starting to look as if he will get precisely nothing in exchange for them. Manchin got a feeble promise of oil lease permitting reform and an oil pipeline in West Virginia in exchange for his decisive vote for their risible “Inflation Reduction Act,” which actually explodes the size and power of the IRS while showering $350 billion on their “green energy” cronies.
Now that they’ve got what they want from Manchin, Democrats are threatening to withhold their votes for a government funding bill if the pro-oil promises made to him aren’t removed. Leftists like Rep. Rashida Tlaib say they owe Manchin nothing. Meanwhile, Republicans are furious at him for double-crossing them. And he’s torpedoed his political career, with a new poll showing him losing badly to any of three different Republican challengers.
When will people ever learn that when you make a deal with the devil, you end up with nothing?
