As former House Intelligence Committee chairman Devin Nunes asked on Laura Ingraham’s FOX News show Thursday night, what do you suppose the reaction would be from Democrats if it were discovered that he (Nunes) had met privately with Glenn Simpson of Fusion GPS last summer? Keep in mind, Glenn Simpson is central to the “Trump/Russia” investigation; he was paid millions by Hillary Clinton through her law firm to hire Christopher Steele and further the “Trump/Russia” narrative. Can you hear the screams that would be emanating from current Intel Committee chairman Adam Schiff? Can you imagine the crazed look in those eyes, and how it would keep you up at night even more than it already does?

But guess who DID meet with Glenn Simpson last July? Ha, it was Adam Schiff.

As you know, the Steele “dossier,” a highly imaginative, “salacious and unverified” work of fiction, became the foundation for the FBI’s investigation into Trump, including a fraudulent FISA application to spy on associates of his campaign. By the time Schiff met with Glenn Simpson last summer, at a conference in Aspen, the Intelligence Committee had already received testimony from Bruce Ohr –- supported by calendar notations and contemporaneous handwritten notes –- that called into question what Simpson had told them. Importantly, this involved the timeline; Simpson had testified he hadn’t met with Ohr until after Thanksgiving, but Ohr told them it was in August, well before the election and while the FBI was starting its investigation into Trump. (We also know that Ohr briefed numerous FBI and DOJ officials around that time about the highly partisan nature of the dossier.)

Same poison, sexy new bottle

By Mike Huckabee

I know that very few Millennials who are besotted with socialism read my newsletter. And on the off chance there are any, I doubt that they would take my advice to read a book by Friedrich Hayek or Dr. Thomas Sowell, or even Dr. Seuss. But maybe they will watch a 3-1/2-minute YouTube video featuring other attractive Millennials desperately trying to warn them not to walk into the socialist booby trap.

These are young Venezuelans who made it to America and attended a protest of Venezuela’s imploding socialist government in Washington. They want to offer their fellow Millennials some truth to cut through the snow job pushers of socialism are giving them. For those who can’t spare even 3-1/2 minutes: they warn that the promises socialists make are lies. Its promoters fall into one of two categories: charlatans and dupes. They thought what happened in places like Cuba couldn’t happen to them because they were a free and prosperous nation that voted for their leaders (it was “democratic socialism!” Sound familiar?). But little-by-little, over time, like a frog boiling in gradually heating water, they lost their freedom and their prosperity until they eventually had no food or medicine or even toilet paper, unless you count their currency.

And just to dispense with the most popular bogus responses right up front: no, “Democratic socialism” is not “completely different,” it’s just the same poison in a sexy new bottle; and these hip young Venezuelans bought it just like many young Americans are. Also, the Scandinavian nations are not examples of “socialism that works.” They’re capitalist nations that thought they were rich enough to afford a lot of expensive government freebies, but even they are scaling those back after seeing the high costs and the erosion they’re taking on the national work ethic.

A giant bag of weed?!?

By Mike Huckabee

Would anyone really be surprised if the "green" in the "Democratic" Socialists' "Green New Deal" turned out to be a giant bag of weed? It would explain what voters had been smoking when they put these people in office.

"Panera cares"

By Mike Huckabee

While some people seem to think they can remake all of America into a socialist utopia, the Panera bakery chain just demonstrated that you can’t even run a socialist sandwich shop successfully.

A few years ago, they launched a high-minded plan for a chain of restaurants called “Panera Cares.”  They would help address that “food accessibility” issue by offering a “pay what you can” menu.  Instead of prices, there were donation “suggestions.”  Richer people could give more if they wanted, while the needier could give less, or even eat for free.  From each according to his needs, to each according to his abilities.  Sounds like a winning business plan!

Surprisingly, it has not worked out well.  So many people were coming in to eat for free every day, they had to start limiting the free meals to one a week (so socialism leads to rationing; who could’ve predicted it?)  They also suggested that people who want extra free meals might work for them.  Not much interest there.  Neighbors complained that the stores were magnets for homeless people, who would swarm in for the free food, throw their trash everywhere and crash local property values (those capitalist pigs!)  Eventually, when even rationing didn’t offset the losses, the costs became unsustainable.  The last Panera Cares just closed its doors in Boston.

It all goes to prove that you can’t run a country – or even a bakery – on a half-baked idea like socialism.

"Terms of Service"

By Mike Huckabee

2019 Social Media “Terms of Service”:

1. Calling for violence against Catholic schoolboys over false allegation: “Free speech.”

2. Posting accurate information with evidence about a Democratic politician:  “Bullying and harassment!”

Is Roberts turning liberal?

By Mike Huckabee

Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts appears to be trying to take over the “swinging gate” seat vacated by Anthony Kennedy.  Just three years ago, the SCOTUS struck down a Texas law requiring abortion clinics to have hospital admitting privileges so they can get patients care quickly in case of emergencies.  Roberts joined the conservative dissenters in that case.  But this week, he voted with the liberals in a 5-4 decision to put a temporary hold on a very similar law in Louisiana (Trump appointees Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh both voted with the conservatives to allow the law to remain in effect pending a ruling.)

The Court didn’t explain the decision, and they’ve yet to issue a final ruling on the law.  At that time, we’ll discover whether Roberts merely had some technical reason to delay okaying the state law and he still holds the same view of abortion laws that he did in 2016, or whether he’s “evolved” on this issue – that’s the approving term that the media use when a conservative Justice turns liberal.

William Barr update

By Mike Huckabee

Update on President Trump’s Attorney General nominee William Barr: The Senate Judiciary Committee approved him along party lines (after a failed attempt by Democrats to handcuff and neuter him, a la Jeff Sessions).  His nomination now moves to the full Senate, where he’s expected to be approved by the Republican majority, amid much expected huffing and puffing from the left side of the aisle and a pious, disapproving lecture by Chuck Schumer with his glasses on the end of his nose.  This is starting to feel like a bad play that we’ve all had to sit through too many times.

Jobless aid applications down

By Mike Huckabee

The Labor Department reports that weekly applications for jobless aid fell sharply last week by 19,000 to a very low 234,000.  It shows that the economy is strong and the job market so tight that employers are trying to hang on to workers so they won’t leave to take a better job elsewhere.

I’m sure I speak for the mainstream media when I say, “Thanks, Obama!”

Is Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts Turning Liberal?

Good question but I think one of two other possibilities are more likely.
    1. He always was a liberal much like some Republicans are really RINO's.
    2. He is being blackmailed. What else could explain him redefining Obamacare as a tax so it would not be unconstitutional?
The last time I checked it was not a judges responsibility to fix a law but to rule on it.

    Hi Governor,
It seems to me that Justice Roberts is following the established rulings of the Supreme Court and should need better reasons if he didn't. While I'd rather see both TX & LA laws enforced, it seems to me that this practice is the best method of ensuring stability within the rule of law.

Until legislators can write better, we're likely to continue to see wishful legislation overturned. Our crops of legislators, going back many years now, just aren't very good and some are terrible. They're great at reading their campaign speeches, but just terrible at effective legislation. It's almost as if they're writing laws that are designed to be contested instead of upheld.
