Monday was one of those days where you take a long lunch, then return and ask, “Did I miss anything?”
Just as we were going to press on Monday morning, we got word that Biden’s domestic policy adviser and former Obama national security adviser (and some say actual President) Susan Rice was stepping down, or as some rumors have it, was fired. Rice has presided from the shadows over two years’ worth of unpopular decisions and outright disasters, from the open border to runaway inflation to weaponizing of government agencies.
In a statement filled with effusive praise for her alleged accomplishments, Biden “credited” her with embedding “equity into the work of the entire federal government.” Which is sort of like thanking Big Tobacco for giving you cancer.
It’s not yet clear who will replace Rice. It’s hard to imagine Biden finding someone even more destructive to America to appoint, but that is the one area in which I have full confidence in his abilities.
Luckily for Biden, nobody paid much attention to Rice’s real record because the media was in full hysteria mode over word of Fox News abruptly parting ways with their highest-rated host, Tucker Carlson. Since I appear regularly on Fox, some people think I have special knowledge of this story. I’m sorry, but I was just as surprised as you and know nothing about the circumstances. Appearing occasionally via satellite gives me no inside info, and I haven’t even been asked to appear on Carlson’s show in ages.
There are a number of theories floating around the Internet, but I don’t know which, if any, might be true. Here are some that are circulating, but I’d suggest waiting until Carlson actually speaks about it before believing anything you hear:
Some people think Carlson might have given some clues about the rift in a speech he made on Saturday.
This article by Sundance at Conservative Treehouse contains something more than speculation, like the news that Carlson will be paid the full $60 million remaining on his contract, and he doesn’t have a nondisclosure or non-compete clause. He will probably be on another platform very soon and telling his side of the story, so you might want to wait until then before drawing any conclusions.

Certainly, don’t draw any dumb conclusions, like AOC’s statement that “deplatforming works.”
She and other Democrats have been calling for Carlson and others who say things they don’t like to be deplatformed, which is another way of saying “silenced” or “censored.” As commenters at that link point out, censorship is a refuge of authoritarians whose ideas can’t stand up to intellectual scrutiny or debate…so, AOC. As one commenter noted, “She’s going to cheer deplatforming until it happens to someone she likes. Then it will be called violence.”
I’m old enough to remember when leftists celebrated when Carlson’s CNN show “Crossfire” was canceled. They thought they’d heard the last of him. How’d that work out for them?
And pity poor Don Lemon at CNN, who was also finally canned on the same day, and to add insult to injury, hardly anyone noticed because they were too obsessed with talking about Tucker Carlson. It’s understandable: with his ratings, it’s sort of like a tree falling in the forest when nobody’s around to hear it.
Lemon tweeted that he was “stunned” that he’d been fired by CNN (How is that possible? I’ve been stunned for years that he hadn’t been fired yet.) He claimed he was given no warning and he would’ve thought “that someone in management would have had the decency to tell me directly.”
CNN responded, "Don Lemon’s statement about this morning’s events is inaccurate. He was offered an opportunity to meet with management but instead released a statement on Twitter."

So he’s going out the way he always did his job as a CNN news anchor: by making statements that are immediately contradicted.
