At a women’s conference in Boston, Michelle Obama took a swipe at President Trump by saying that when her husband was in office, it “was like having the ‘good parent’ at home” who makes you eat your vegetables and go to bed on time. But "now we have the other parent…We thought it’d feel fun — maybe it feels fun for now because we can eat candy all day and stay up late and not follow the rules.”

There’s so much to unpack in that. I could ask, what about following the rule that outgoing Presidents not attack their successors, which George W. Bush was mature enough to extend to her husband? Or I could point out that Trump’s attempts to rescind her husband’s unconstitutional executive orders, root out his appointees who politicized and weaponized supposedly nonpartisan agencies, and enforce longstanding immigration laws are all efforts to “follow the rules” that were ignored for eight long years. And I didn’t even get into her claim that other nations no longer look to the US for leadership as they did under Obama, when Trump is actually reasserting US leadership after eight years of abdicating that role to the UN.

Instead, I’d rather point out what most commenters on this story completely overlooked, and that’s the way she inadvertently summed up the core of what’s wrong with the current “progressive” leftwing mindset: the belief that the free citizens of the United States are like children, and the government is our parent.

No, what makes the United States unique in history is that the citizens are the boss, and the government is our servant. The attitude that it’s the role of the President to force us to eat our vegetables and go to bed by 9 may indeed be why many people voted for Trump. If so, then it’s as good a reason as any I can think of.

Michelle Obama was such a "good parent" to all of our school children who benefit from the federal school lunch program, that she almost single-handedly destroyed the program. Never was there as much food thrown in school trash cans as there was those few years with her "whole-wheat everything" mandates! Her method of almost literally cramming her notion of healthy foods down the throats of our school children was an abysmal failure. Perhaps adults were willing to accept her husband's use of tax dollars to pass out cell phones to drug addicts, but when you try to force a kid to eat something that he/she hasn't been properly introduced to, you might hit a brick wall. Mike, imagine what your grandma would've said if she'd witnessed our southern kids bearing trays replete with whole wheat gravy and biscuits! Mine would've said, "That ain't fit fer a dog to eat!"

Finally we have a president that isn’t running all over the Middle East apologizing to all the terrorist leaders that are sucking the life out of our country. When did Mizz obama-lama-ding-dong become such an expert on our government and how it should be operated? Has everyone forgotten that it was SHE who stated how ashamed she was of our country AFTER hubby got elected to the White House? From that point on anything she has said or will say should be totally ignored, she lost all credibility...

Having Obama in office was like having a moron from hell running our country. As for Michelle, that was like looking into a cage filled with monkeys.

I think it was Abraham Lincoln who said, "It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt". I guess Michelle never heard that!

The Obamas are delusional! They were the worst President and First Lady ever! Obama lied to Americans throughout his campaigns and during his eight years in the White House. Corruption was rampant during that administration. They were wasteful of taxpayers money. They were race baiters and stirred up racial strife. I wish the Obamas would just fade away and keep their opinions and criticisms of America and Americans to themselves!

Her husband has been called "the most corrupt president America has ever had" I don't want him for a father!!!

If she had one brain in her head, she would keep her mouth shut...and her daddy would'nt have to tell her to!

I saw Mrs Obama say that and I cringed.
#1 Our President is following rules that have been ignored for decades
#2 This undignified rhetoric from a former president aand his wife= weaken our country.
#3 The Obamas should note the respect they were given by their supporters and non supporters=and reflect on that.
#4 It disturbs me=the faux fear they try to spread to the public, homophobia, racism. I believe the racism stems from Bill Clinton's speech for Hillary during the campaign. I was watching it, and my jaw hit the floor. I could not believe what he said=that if Trump was elected=" you know they would like things to go back to the way they were 50 years ago, especially in the south." I realized then, how terrible they were to try an evoke such fear, anger, disrespect of a culture =to gain votes.

She is reminding us that she and her husband have no respect for the citizens of this country. Basically the Democratic Party policy of we know what’s best for you. Sounds like socialism to me. Give us your money and freedom. Daddy Dearest will take care of you.

The "parent" part of the comment is the most troubling. It reflective of the entire progressive movement that only a handful of elitist and academics know what is good for the rest of the nation who are suppose to just go along like good little sheep. No matter whether you are liberal, conservative or some where inbetween, the condescension is the most disturbing aspect of that approach to policy.

Michelle Obama’s swipes at President Trump is ignorant. Trump is making a difference that far outshines anything her husband did. Trump builds contrary to what Obama did.
