Today's Commentary --- "Gender correctness" ruins scientific research and teaching -- Good news for Florida -- A good loser -- Wallace-Trump interview -- The Baltic Experience 2019 -- Rush to reform -- A new CNN motto -- Evening Edition - Daily Verse

When there’s a difference of opinion between science and politics on a matter pertaining to scientific study, which should prevail?

Why, politics, of course. And scientists, pressured to toe the line, increasingly give in. This happens not just in the United States but around the world, notably in Canada, where Dr. Jordan B. Peterson has taken a lot of heat for challenging PC dogma in the area of gender. It’s happening in Sweden as well, where another renowned professor, Germund Hesslow, has been under pressure for months to apologize to an offended student and modify his teachings and terminology concerning biological sex differences.

Prof. Hesslow refused to apologize.

A report filed in September by Academic Rights Watch (and just posted, appropriately, by Dr. Peterson), outlines the case of Dr. Hesslow, Professor of Neurophysiology and Associate Professor of Philosophy at Lund University. His lecture on “Heritage and Environment” was challenged by an offended student because it was “in possible violation of the university’s discrimination and equal treatment policies.” After an internal investigation, Hesslow was acquitted of any wrongdoing, but it was determined that there was still “risk for discrimination” (I supposed that means, when we get down to it, that the administration is afraid of lawsuits). The faculty was advised to do whatever actions it deemed necessary to minimize that risk.

Good news for Florida

By Mike Huckabee

Happy Thanksgiving week!  Many Americans are already on the road or in airports for holiday travel, and I feel your pain.  But at least take solace in small miracles, like knowing that the Florida election was actually settled before the turkey had to be defrosted.

Republicans who were ahead on Election Day still won, even after the controversial recount and all the various Broward County shenanigans (including losing over 2,000 ballots and having to start over when officials realized volunteers were counting the wrong ballots).

Democrat Andrew Gillum conceded the Governor’s race to Ron DeSantis a second time when the recount showed DeSantis still ahead by 32,463 votes.  And while Democrats kept whittling away at Rick Scott’s lead over three-term incumbent Sen. Bill Nelson, Scott still led the recount by about 10,000 votes and Nelson finally conceded.

Aside from Democrat Nikki Fried, who won the Agriculture Commissioner’s office by 6,753 votes, all statewide Florida offices will be held by Republicans, and Florida will have two Republican Senators for the first time since Reconstruction.

Finally, there was the best news of all for Florida voters and the worst news for late night comedians.

A good loser

By Mike Huckabee

Meanwhile, Kentucky’s House District 13 race proved that every vote truly does count. Democrat Jim Glenn was declared the winner over GOP incumbent Rep. D.J. Johnson by one vote: 6,319 to 6,318.  Republicans responded by screaming voter fraud, burning cars and smashing windows.  No, of course, I’m just kidding.  It wasn't a Democrat who lost by one vote. Johnson requested a recount, but he was gracious even in such a narrow defeat and said he wouldn’t canvass his friends or family members or blame any of them who failed to vote for him.

Now, that’s a good loser.  Were I in his shoes, any family members who didn’t bother to vote for me might be eating Thanksgiving dinner at McDonald’s this year.

Wallace-Trump interview

By Mike Huckabee

Over the weekend, President Trump sat down for an interview with Fox News’ Chris Wallis.  It covered a lot of territory, so rather than recap it all, I’ll direct you to Fox News’ summary and the video of the full interview.  Trump also treated us to one of his Sunday night tweet storms that included a typo on Rep. Adam Schiff’s last name that I’d like to think was inadvertent.  Either that, or it’s a nickname Schiff is really going to get tired of over the next two years.

The rush to reform

By Mike Huckabee

Republicans are under the gun to pass as much of their agenda as possible while they still control the House, before the Democrats take over in January and pass higher taxes, gun control, endless investigations and all the other things they pinky-swore they weren’t going to do up until the second they’d been declared the winners.  Sen. Lindsay Graham is urging his colleagues to make the prison sentencing reform sought by President Trump one of those “hurry up and git-‘er-done” bills.  Rolling back tough mandatory sentences for non-violent offenders would largely benefit black and Hispanic Americans, and it’s something that liberals have talked about for years; but when they had the power, such as during Obama’s first two years, they did nothing. The worry is that they will block it just because Trump wants it, or they’ll demand too much and leave it deadlocked, no matter how many of their own constituents that will hurt.

Black conservatives are pointing out the irony that Republicans, whom Democrats love to call “racists,” have to hurry up to pass a long-delayed bill to help minorities before the Democrats take over and kill it for at least another two years.  Imagine what the media would call a GOP Congress that blocked a bill like that.  I don’t think you have to imagine too hard.

A new motto for CNN

By Mike Huckabee

Why CNN’s new motto should be “This is CNN…So Don’t Believe It!”  In the latest example of CNN misleading the public, their headline implied that Republican Rep. Mark Meadows was involved in sexually harassing female aides.  He was actually cited by the Ethics Committee because they didn’t like the way he dealt with a male former staffer to stop him from harassing women. One of the victims spoke up to correct the record: she tweeted that “Meadows never sexually harassed anyone” and “my experience was that Meadows had my back, took me at my word, & respected & protected me.”

In CNN’s defense, at least their headline also mentioned the Democratic Congressman who really was accused of “persistent and unwanted advances towards women.”  The New York Times conveniently left him out of their headline entirely.  Maybe their new motto should be “The Paper of Broken Record.”

Interesting when Wallace makes comment on Pres and not going to Arlington. He was just in France attending memorials that he was able to get to. He has been doing all kinds of bills to advance the military after being taken down for 8 yr by Pres Obama. Booting out for years of our soldiers. I know per my son in law in for 32 yr Air Force and said it was terrible. He retired two years ago. Very much for Pres Trump and the VA he goes to is doing much better. Still a way to go per the help they need more competent help on VA college and mortgage I hear from other family had problems. Not per Trump but not hiring those who do the job? Chris likes to shake up things but at least tell the whole story in the process. Then this week Pres and Melania went to see a military group? Why is it always the day and how attacked per not making the one place in France per horrible weather and told he could not get there by helicopter and security not set up to drive? The media would rather be negative and at times I think Chris is so ingrained in DC he is playing both sides and more the other then Pres Trumps? Like Chris but he is not his father. I am old enough at 76 to remember his dad.
The election and voting should be much clearer then it is being told and attacked right now? WHY is this possible when we are able to still go out in space but cannot vote and know the total ? Something stinks in the apple barrel and also amazing when it is noted how many Democrats won in the house and not much is said on the billions put in to help this by a Soros, Steyer, Bezos money and his Washington Post and the tech industry in California who as much say they did not back Pres Trump WHY NOT. See many working all kinds of people out working again per jobs went overseas WHY? Stop the caravans at the border only to let in as needed for JOBS not for protection when many across this world need help like Syria, Yemen, Pakistan , places in Africa and who do we help now? Homeless now in Calif is getting worse WHY? So open the borders how and then what Democrats? Drugs coming more and more WHY? See Narcos and ask is this what we need ? NO! Someone is making big bucks on some side and they do not want it to end. ASK WHY and where they all make their big billions. They are going to go after Pres Trump so lets all play the game together. Take a number Hillary.

CNN in Latin: Commictilis Nequam Nuntium....... Commictilis = vile, foul, filthy, despicable, Nequam=worthless, bad, good-for-nothing, without value or merit, Nuntium= messages, news, messenger, information
They (CNN), could not picked a more appropriate title.
