Evening Edition - January 18

January 18, 2019

Yesterday brought a new flurry of accusations about President Trump and Russia that some in the media and camera-addicted House Democrats such as Adam Schiff are treating as serious revelations.  I’ll withhold comment until they have better sources than known liar and perjurer Michael Cohen, who’s managed the impossible feat of giving lawyers a worse reputation, and anonymous sources in a story from Buzzfeed, a website whose reputation for journalistic accuracy ranks somewhere south of The Onion.

But just so you don’t think I’m being biased in not covering it, here it is.  Supply your own shaker of salt.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6605677/Sources-claim-Trump-directed-Cohen-lie-Congress-Trump-Tower-Moscow.html

There’s also this story that Cohen allegedly paid a tech company in 2014 to generate mass votes in online polls on sites such the Drudge Report to help boost Trump’s standing before he ever entered the presidential race.  Again, consider the sources or lack thereof.  If true, it’s kind of a skeevy thing to do, but in context of all the things done in recent years to try to manipulate data, social media, etc., for political advantage, it’s pretty small potatoes.  I’m more concerned about candidates who pay for actual votes, and massive tech companies such as Google, Facebook and Twitter attempting to silence conservative speech.

Just wondering: does anyone pay any attention whatsoever to online polls with self-selecting samples?  Doesn’t everyone know by now that supporters of candidates on both sides try to jigger those polls with mass voting?  There’s even a term for it on the conservative website Free Republic: “This poll needs freeping!

If the mainstream media polls are now the equivalent of someone who predicts the future by looking at chicken entrails, then online polls are like predicting the future by looking at fake chicken parts made of processed soy protein.

For years now, I’ve been warning people to pay no attention to polls.  When one major poll had Hillary up by 11 points and everyone was saying the race was over, I was predicting that Trump would win.  The talking heads nodded indulgently, saying that poor ol’ Huck was just being a good GOP soldier, trying to keep up party morale and put the best face on an inevitable defeat.

They never seem to understand this about me: I don’t look people in the eye and lie to them.  Lying to others is a sin, and lying to yourself is stupid and self-defeating.  I didn’t believe those polls because I examined the internals and saw how much they had to oversample likely Hillary voters to get her to an 11-point lead.  They even touted her widespread support by citing a poll showing her up 5 points in Arizona.  I checked it out: they had to oversample Democrats by about 24 points to get her to a 5-point lead.

To me, that poll showed she was toast, and it was her supporters/enablers in the media who were trying to rig poll results in her favor.  They might have even done Hillary a disservice by fooling her into thinking she had more support than she did, hence her failure to campaign in swing states she thought she had in the bag.  (Incidentally, Trump won Arizona.  See how lying to yourself is self-defeating?)

https://ballotpedia.org/Presidential_election,_2016

Notice that in all the polls recorded on that linked page, Trump never led in any of them.  The latest mid-October polls had Hillary ahead by anywhere from 6 to 10 points, and all of them were by “reputable” polling organizations. If that’s what passes for legitimate, dependable, solid polling, then why would anyone pay attention to self-selecting, unscientific, easily-manipulated, web-based “polls?”

If it turns out to be true that Trump paid someone to help boost his standing in them, then I’d be disappointed in him partly on grounds of integrity, but mostly because I expect him to be smarter about how he spends his money than to waste it on garbage like that.

There’s been so much news this week, it might have been easy to overlook that Wednesday was Religious Freedom Day.  Ironically, that event was largely drowned out by all the media outlets attacking the Vice President’s wife as an anti-gay bigot because she volunteers as an art teacher at a Christian school.  That coordinated assault on religious freedom is all the more evidence of why we need a reminder that in America, every day is Religious Freedom Day:

--------------------------

In an all-too-common occurrence, in a high-crime neighborhood in Chicago, a 19-year-old male approached a young woman waiting alone early in the morning at a bus stop, pulled a weapon and told her he was robbing her.  He didn’t figure on her having a concealed carry permit.  She pulled a pistol and shot him, and he was taken to a hospital and later died.

While any loss of human life is tragic, you’d think most people would side with the victim, and think, “Thank God she was armed, because who knows if he would have stopped with just taking her purse?”  Of course, most people don’t “think” like liberal journalists, such as Zack Ford, the LGBTQ editor for the oxymoronically-named ThinkProgress, who lamented that the woman fought back.  Why, if she’d just gone along with the criminal, they both likely would have survived (an assumption that’s easy to make when you’re not the woman being threatened on a dark street by an armed man.)

Ford wrote this tweet:  “Conservatives are thrilled a woman with a concealed-carry permit shot and killed a 19-year-old would-be mugger. That’s not how justice works. The penalty for theft is not death, nor do we want it to be.”  He went on to call the 19-year-old would-be armed robber a “kid,” and wrote, “I just feel like we’re being way too disposable with his life.  A gun death is a gun death, and the fact that she was able to protect herself in no way motivates me to change my belief that she should not have had a gun in the first place.”

https://www.westernjournal.com/ct/sick-lib-woman-let-rob-armed-mugger-approached/

Understandably, Ford caught so much furious flak that he deleted the tweet and backpedaled furiously.  Good. But there are a couple of important points that need to be stressed and that most media accounts haven’t mentioned:

1.  When I was a kid, back in the Stone Age, many fathers taught their sons that the second you point a deadly weapon at an innocent person, you give up the right to protest that your own life is too sacred to be taken.  This was especially common during the rise of news stories about criminals suing their victims for injuring them when they fought back.

2.  This is the point that liberals really don’t want you to notice about this story: a larger, armed male threatened a lone woman on an empty street.  It might have been just a robbery, or it might have progressed to an abduction, rape or murder.  Instead, the attacker was stopped and the woman is alive and unharmed, for one reason only:  she had a gun.

This story offers a shocking example of the liberal mindset: even though a concealed weapon is the most effective force equalizer between women and the men who would victimize them, some people would actually rather see the woman be victimized than protect herself if it means respecting her right to have a gun.

 ----------------------

This Time It’s Personal:  Why have so many Democrats who voted to fund a border wall or fence for years, and who even made speeches on the dangers of illegal immigration, suddenly done a 180?  What is the real reason that they're willing to shut down their beloved federal government rather than provide a fraction as much money for a border barrier as they backed in previous years?

The CATO Institute did a study and found something intriguing: Democratic support for a border barrier was pretty strong and constant right up until mid-2015, when it suddenly plummeted from 44% to 11%.  Take a look at this chart and see if you can guess the exact point at which Donald Trump entered the presidential race and embraced the building of a border wall.

------------------------------------

Another suggestion for the State of the Union Address: Sen. Rand Paul says President Trump should just give it in the Senate chamber instead of the House.  Not a bad idea.  Just as a nice a setting, and far less likelihood that one of the distinguished federal office holders in the audience will start screaming profanity at him.

Getting that Speakership for a 2nd time has gone to Pelosi’s head! She thinks that she’s the President when she’s only 3rd in line! Is she thinking of usurping the “hierarchy” and stage a take-over? What’s the real reason for Pelosi & other Congressmen’s scheduled trip to Brussels, Egypt, and Afghanistan while she & her cronies ought to be here working & cooperating with the President to find a common ground to end the Govt shutdown, build the Wall, secure the border, pass sensible Immigration Laws, plan out a sensible budget for the next 2 years, bring harmony on the Hill & with the President? Since they haven’t worked & done their jobs properly, and were on several vacations recently, instead of paying the Congress their salaries for Dec 2018 & Jan 2019 and their amenities, use that to pay the Federal workers (only those who really deserves it) for January & February! Even though she carries a beautiful face, she’s crookedly clever, smart, brilliant, very rich, way too experienced politician; she’s scheming, arrogant, deceptive, immoral, cruel without any real compassion from the heart, evil and hypocritical! She couldn’t even be bothered to talk to the Angel Moms the other day! She’s not for American citizens but for herself! I’m glad she & her cronies couldn’t get to go! They don’t need any more time off or vacation. AOC must not be allowed to succeed with her “Green Screen” or whatever she calls it – her socialist agenda neither should Gillibrand, Kamala Harris, and such besides the two new Palestinian firebrands (for these two are anti-American and anti-Semitic)! I don’t know how and why such kind of individuals get elected?!

Gov. Huckabee, I just read on today's newsfeed (Sunday, 1/20) that students wearing MAGA hats were HORRIBLE to a elder Native American.

And there was another that the "missing link" had been found for those who are determined to believe in evolution, regardless of the stupidity of it all!!

I'm writing you to ask you to PLEASE look into these two issues and tell us the TRUTH about both!!! I just get so frustrated when I read foolishness like this, that YOU are my hope to tell the TRUTH!!! I certainly do NOT believe that ANYONE supporting our President would be so rude to ANYONE - especially an elderly Native American. THANK YOU!! I appreciate you and your honesty and integrity!

Telepathic Mind Readers must be writing speeches for those who KNOW what the President is going to be saying long before the President even says it...OR, there is a "TITANIC" leak by a very furry fat mole in the White House who has its pouches stuffed full of all kinds of goodies. IF you find this fortune telling mind reader...PLEASE ask what are the next BIG Power Ball numbers. If we we knew what the next 7--10 Super Power Ball winning numbers (after taxes), were... We the People could probably pay for our "Protection Barrier" with some extra cash left over to buy several "Super Size Combo" meals.

It never ceases to amaze me that people oppose aan armed assailant being killed in the process of committing a crime yet they believe it is perfectly alright for a pregnant woman to terminate a life because it is an inconvenience for her.

The real reason liberals don't want a border wall is it will cut them out of an opportunity to "buy" votes with their government give away programs. I really believe it is just that simple. Countries without controlled borders means there inhabitants are worldly and then comes worldly governments.

Dear Mike, One thing I think is critically important for Republicans is to spell out clearly what their plan is to replace Obamacare. I have yet to hear a Republican spell out clearly how privatized health care will be more cost effective. Kim Reynolds won the governor race in Iowa, thanks be to God, but I must say that Fred Hubbel, her pro abortion opponent, was a lot slicker at talking about the merits of government health care. Republicans are not convincing when they just condemn government run, single payer health care. Would you please explain to the Republicans how privatized health care will work better, and explain in a way the average person can understand? I want Republicans to win in 2020, but they need to articulate the plan.

Pres Trump has bent over backwards to "accomodate" Dems, I say IF Dems DONT respond, then I say declare Emergency.

    RE: SHUT-DOWN/WALL/FENCE
The “partial” shut-down is no longer on Trump's shoulders. He’s offered so many options, compromise sessions, all refused by Dems – or sent staffers to negotiate, expected POTUS to not leave a session when offered $1.00 as an insult (insult to The People). Pelosi is either missing, on leave, vacation, trips while American’s are suffering through this.

    We remember all too well:

If you like your doctor you can keep your doctor (a LIE).
You have to pass the bill to see what’s in it (a TRICK).
AND NOW WE HAVE: You have to end the partial-shut-down to negotiate for border security (a TRICK and INFERRED MISLEADING LIE that will lead to negotiating the wall/fence - it does not include that! – same tactic, different issue.)

The Naked Truth is better than any well-dressed lie. Pelosi/Schumer are this country’s Aristocrats – out of touch – afraid of losing power – do not have the best interest of The People, or illegals, children, families and not willing to stop the drug flow and child trafficking, rape of women, loss of life – just to win a point – no compromise on the “wall/Fence” on 250 miles of the border where needed.

If POTUS becomes aware of these posts, I say this: President Trump, do what you have to do. You have my support. God will reward your effort to “save” lives on both sides of the fence/wall.

#1: I pay no attention to so called polls. #2 The turnabout by dems on border security and the reason for same is so transparent it is simply flabbergasting. Only when the public starts really screaming regarding illegal alien crime and their political future is threatened will they do what is obviously right and work to protect American citizens. #3 God bless the young woman who was able to defend herself with legal deadly force. Z Ford and his like thinking friends have likely never been victimized by violent crime or had a friend or relative lose their lives because they did not have the means to defend themselves or their families. Please keep up the good work on keeping a conservative spotlight on the insane goings ons that seem so prevalent in our country these days.

It is just wrong for dems to go on a tax payer trip to Egypt and other places when federal employees are not being paid. Shut down Washington. They are rich and have plenty of money to live without pay for months. We pay Generals and other military people to know what is going on in foreign countries. Who wants to see lying politicians especially when we are paying for it. President Trump and his wife are the only ones we should be paying for their travels. I just love that Nancy got her justice!!!!!!!

I am absolutely sick of the bleeding heart people who insist the a 18-20 year old are not adults. I was married to my husband a month after his 19th. birthday and I was 18. We were married for 46 years. He felt he was old enough and mature enough to have a wife and I agreed with him. I have also know adults in their late 20's who married and were divorced withing a few years. Age is not necessarily an indication of maturity. A 19 year old using a weapon to rob anyone has stopped being a child, he/she is now an adult taking adult responsibility to their actions on themselves not the victim.

I think President Trump is doing a great job of tackling things that should have been done a long time ago.
I can't believe that Pelosi got the speaker position again. I can only guess that nobody else wanted it. I don't understand why the essential government workers are not being paid, and I think if the upper echelon of government chooses not to report to work, then they have abandoned their job and they should be replaced.

I saw something yesterday about illegals having to pay taxes on their earning in the US because they were given a number to file with.
Now they are claiming up to 20 kids apiece on child credit rules and getting huge refunds that the IRS has admitted is to up 4.8 billion dollars last year and each year. this is a scam the illegals are using to take taxpayer money to steal from the IRS and send more and more money back to their countries. Please look in to this and send any info you find to your wonderful daughter so she can show it to Trump!

Regarding your pre-election predicting Trump would win:
Visiting my GP just prior to election, she, MD, said "I sure hope trump wins." I said to her "Absolutely no doubt Trump will win." I do not "like" people not getting paid if working or "furloughed." However, the banks love it with increased interest rates for "cash withdraw fees from credit cards, to extra fees for delayed or missed payments etc. Also how are the damaged FICO scores going to be repaired. There will be a "LOT of "extra long-term" damaged done (lower FICO scores increase your interest rates on just about anything now days), to the workers who are being "UNFAIRLY" punished because neither side of CONGRESS gives a care about anyone except their FAT paycheck...there are a very few exceptions. These Congressional's are to be commended IF they are actually not getting paid and using the free tax-payer paid benefits either. IF and when these "back-payments" are made they should be "TAX FREE" to HELP pay for the extra burdens put on the abused government employees.
In regards to traveling on military flights NO Congressional person should be on any military flight that is NOT a "DIRECT" military mission/ operation. A Congress person taking their family on a free vacation under anything other than a direct military mission should NOT be at the tax-payer's expense. IF a congress person is going to fly on a military flight those KC/ tanker/junkets strapped seats on "space A flights" that I sat in a many of times will make you think a LOT about is this flight really necessary? IF we tax payers have to fly commercial (like cattle), on our own dime, then so should congress who are not on a direct military mission and bring their family into a "combat zone." What makes a congress person "BETTER" than any tax payer...is it "JUST because they are a CON person?"
