In this era when Congressional debates more closely resemble a cat fight in a junk yard, it’s rare for something to come along that’s so offensive that Congress members spanning the political spectrum from Ted Cruz to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez all join together in condemning it. So maybe we should send a thank-you note to the NBA for finally uniting Americans again in a shared, common, furious disgust at their wretched kowtowing to communist China by silencing the Houston Rockets’ GM’s tweet in support of the pro-freedom demonstrators in Hong Kong.

But before we get angry solely at the NBA, let’s be fair and admit they aren’t the only large US corporation that’s acting like a lackey of Beijing.
For instance, there’s Disney subsidiary ESPN, which has no problem glorifying athletes who slander our own President (the only person in government who’s actually been standing up to China for years) as a dictator, but is more than willing to bend over for the real dictators in Beijing. This week, “SportsCenter” aired a map of China that’s a product of pure communist propaganda, showing China as possessor of a number of areas they have no legitimate claim to, from the China Sea to Taiwan to one of the states of India. (Again, I’m so old I remember when “SportsCenter” was about sports and not geopolitics.)
Kim Hirsch at the Victory Girls blog takes inventory of some of the many craven US companies that are rushing to change their advertising, delete social media accounts or do whatever it takes to mollify their masters in China that they are not showing support in any way for the people demanding freedom in Hong Kong.

Those companies include some names closely associated with rampant capitalism, but that now apparently take their marching orders from the ChiComs, including Tiffany, Givenchy, Coach and Versace. Vans sneakers yanked several entrants in their shoe design contest because they expressed support for Hong Kong. Of course, Hollywood, desperate for overseas ticket revenues, has also long been tailoring and censoring its own movies and TV shows to Chinese sensitivities. They love offending most of America between the coasts, but are terrified at offending the communist Chinese government.
And let’s not forget Apple, which yanked an app used by the protesters in Hong Kong to keep track of where the police were. Apple claims it was being used by criminals, but its developers replied that there is zero evidence of that. It was being used by protesters to avoid being beaten, shot and arrested. If that and not pressure from Beijing was behind Apple’s decision, then why did they also remove an app in China for the news outlet Quartz that people were using to get up-to-date coverage of the Hong Kong protests?

It’s ironic that Apple first burst onto the scene with a now-famous commercial showing a woman throwing a hammer and smashing a giant TV screen with the glowering face of a “1984”-like dictator ranting from it. Today, she’d pull out a squeegee and clean it so everyone could see Big Brother clearly.
It was often said when we started doing business with China that it was a good thing because it would help export American values and make them more like us. Sadly, it appears that in some ways, it’s imported communist Chinese values and made a lot of us like them. Either that, or some Americans just have no American values other than watching out for the bottom line.

You know you’re getting old if you can remember when liberals were in favor of free speech.
Just in the past week, we’ve seen House Democrats demand President Trump’s impeachment for the high crime of saying that China and Ukraine should investigate allegations of corruption involving Joe Biden’s son (incidentally, Biden now agrees that Trump should be impeached for suggesting investigating his own alleged corruption, and, I assume, be replaced with himself, the guy whose alleged corruption we’re not even allowed to talk about.)
In addition, Kamala Harris demanded that Twitter revoke the President’s Twitter account because she doesn’t like what he tweets on it (there's the mindset you want in the Oval Office, defending your Constitutional rights.) And now, the Biden campaign is rebuking the New York Times even for running a guest op-ed criticizing Biden.
The article was by “Clinton Cash” author Peter Schweizer, who’s made a specialty of tracking down the mysterious and creative pathways through which large streams of cold cash flow into the campaign chests, “charity foundations” and pockets of relatives of powerful “public servants.” It was entitled “What Hunter Biden Did Was Legal – That’s the Problem." At this point, you’d think Joe would be happy that an op-ed about his son just called his business practices problematic but legal. But no, his people still think it’s a federal offense even to question him.
To be honest, I’m not certain who to fault here. Sure, it’s a stunning bit of hubris for the Biden campaign to think it should be able to dictate which opinions are allowed to be printed in the New York Times. But should I criticize the Biden people for thinking that, or the Times editors for leading them to believe they actually have a right to think it because they're the Democratic Party's house organ?
