Today's Edition

Instead of starting at 1 PM Eastern on Tuesday as earlier stated, opening arguments in the impeachment trial will begin at that same time on Wednesday and adjourn for the day at (yes) 1 AM. Tuesday has been set aside for rules and pre-trial motions, for which the deadline is 9 AM Wednesday. Reportedly this tweak in the schedule was to accommodate Chief Justice John Roberts. Now everybody has yet another day before the trial actually begins, so what to do? I know, let's all speculate some more about how it's going to go!

On Monday, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell released a resolution that lays out the proposed ground rules. The same 12-hour, 12-hour, 12-hour, 12-hour format remains, so we’ve still got four marathon days to look forward to. Come to think of it, maybe Chief Justice Roberts wanted this to start Wednesday just to get more sleep in advance! (My staff is asking for both overtime and hazard pay.) Neither side will be allowed to go over its total 24-hour time limit.

FEATURED STORY

Stark contrast

By Mike Huckabee

There has seldom been a starker contrast presented to voters than we’ve seen over the past week. While Democrats were engaging in nothing but impeachment theater, complete with souvenir pens and that ridiculously pompous processional to deliver their “articles of impeachment” to the Senate with a gravity they don’t deserve (it was more like a St. Bernard leaving a deposit on the Senators’ lawn), what was President Trump doing? Signing an unprecedented two major trade deals (China and North America) in one week, both of which his critics claimed he would never achieve and warned that he would destroy the economy pursuing.

One could argue, as does Wayne Allen Root, that while the Democrats were beclowning themselves to distract attention from Trump’s successes, Trump was having the best week of his presidency (indeed, the best week of just about anyone’s presidency.)

https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2020/01/wayne-allyn-root-all-democrats-have-is-weapons-of-mass-distraction/

The President then flew to the World Economic Forum in Davos, where he delivered the keynote address. He used it to list some of the many stunning accomplishments of his first three years, in an attempt to show other nations that free-market capitalism works while socialism fails tragically. Maybe he should repeat this speech word-for-word as his State of the Union Address to Congress.

At the link is a video of Trump’s speech, which is well worth watching and sharing, even if it is lacking in the usual hilarious one-liners about Adam Schiff and water-saving “green” toilets that don’t work.

But if you don’t have time to watch a video, or want an even more comprehensive list that’s easy to share, check out this article from The Gateway Pundit.

https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2020/01/must-see-list-of-president-trumps-historical-and-miraculous-accomplishments-three-years-into-his-presidency/

It’s a list of Trump’s accomplishments in the first three years of his presidency, and when you see them, scrolling on and on, it’s absolutely stunning. Crushing ISIS, forging advantageous trade deals, cutting taxes and regulations, helping the US to become a net energy exporter, setting 114 record-high stock market closings, boosting economic growth, setting an array of records for employment, cutting illegal immigration, defending religious liberty, and many more – in most cases, while the media and the Democrats were doing everything in their power to prevent him from accomplishing anything.

This is a link you’ll want to bookmark and share.

##Appellation##, I wanted to make sure you also read these comments:

Impeachment legal update: late last night, it was announced that the Trump defense team is adding a number of key House Republicans who did a masterful job of defending him despite having their hands tied by the Democrats’ blatantly partisan procedure rules. They include Reps. Doug Collins, Jim Jordan, John Ratcliffe and Elise Stefanik. They’re not expected to actively participate, but will be available to advise Trump’s attorneys on what they know about the Democrats’ case and tactics. Details and the complete list are at the link.

Meanwhile, Trump attorney and law professor Alan Dershowitz told Laura Ingraham some of the similarities and differences between this and a court case. For instance, if this were in a criminal court, it would be a “motion to dismiss” case, on grounds that not only had the prosecutors failed to produce evidence, but even if the charges were true, they aren’t crimes (in this case, the vague “abuse of power” and “obstruction of Congress” are not impeachable offenses.) However, Dershowitz said, “A motion to dismiss and a perfect world would be ideal, but do the American public want to see an end to the trial so quickly? I think that becomes a political issue."

I can’t speak for the entire American public, but I’ll bet a substantial chunk of them would fall on their knees and thank God if this embarrassing, partisan waste of time and tax money were over as quickly as possible.

As for the Democrats’ endless whining about how the Senate rules aren’t “fair” to them: as a father and grandfather, I recognize that argument as the favorite of virtually every five-year-old child. As Democratic icon John F. Kennedy once pointed out, life's not fair. The House Democrats didn’t seem to care a fig about fairness when they were denying Trump his due process rights and blocking Republicans from being able to see testimony or call and cross-examine witnesses. Now, they’re deeply concerned about “fairness” for themselves. Cry me a river.

As one commenter put it, this is the first time we’ve ever heard the media fretting over whether the prosecutors will get a fair trial.

A reminder that no matter how many self-righteous lectures with his glasses on the end of his nose that Sen. Chuck Schumer dispenses this week about impeachment, this is what he had to say about it when Bill Clinton faced it:

https://townhall.com/tipsheet/bethbaumann/2020/01/20/schumers-1999-impeachment-letter-to-president-clinton-isnt-aging-very-well-n2559772

And bear in mind: Clinton was accused of 11 actual felonies, including perjury and obstruction of justice, not made-up “crimes” like refusing to give up his Constitutional rights to make it easier for Adam Schiff to frame him.

Despite the “hopes and prayers” of many in the media, Monday’s pro-Second Amendment rally in Virginia not only had a massive turnout, but it was positive, peaceful and there were no reports of violence or injuries.

https://www.westernjournal.com/va-gun-protesters-kick-off-massive-rally-making-message-crystal-clear-will-not-comply/

That still didn’t stop many media outlets from trying to slander the thousands of law-abiding gun owners as white supremacists, militia members or other favorite villain groups of the left. There are some great photos at this next link, but note the anti-gun slant of the accompanying story. For instance, the claim that “President Trump fanned the flames of the already simmering tensions by tweeting” that Democrats were trying to take away their Second Amendment rights. First of all, that’s hardly a secret: that’s why they were there, filling the streets. Second, why choose the phrasing “fanned the flames” when it would be more accurate and less slanted to say, “stated the obvious”?

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7907885/Crowds-line-guns-Richmond-gun-rally.html

The claims that the protesters were all “white rednecks and hillbillies” was a particular sore point for the many minority protesters present (reminder: the NRA is the oldest existing civil rights organization in America, and virtually the only one that defended the right of black Americans to own guns to protect their families from the KKK.)

Here’s a video of one of the gun owners of color who was especially eloquent about his disgust at the false media narrative:

https://www.westernjournal.com/black-virginia-pro-gun-protester-crushes-medias-white-supremacist-narrative/

And here’s a response to Virginia’s gun-grabbing governor that I’ll bet you won’t see on MSNBC: an African-American protester who was waving a Trump flag and jokingly telling the crowd, “I am Gov. Ralph Northam, and I am in blackface today!”

https://pjmedia.com/vodkapundit/virginia-2a-black-guy-waving-trump-flag-i-am-gov-ralph-northam-and-i-am-in-blackface-today/

Finally, Matt Vespa at Townhall.com wrote a round-up of the hyperventilating fake news coverage and the liberal media figures’ terror at the thought of being surrounded by all those law-abiding, trained gun owners – which was probably the safest place to be in the entire world. Certainly much safer than a gun-free zone!

Bible Verse of the Day (KJV)

"If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?"

    Dear Mike Huckabee,
I just love your column and your show. I so appreciate your humor and how you make people feel comfortable and at home. I also love your Bible passages at the end of your written work. Thank you.

I would like to make a request but not sure if you can honor it. I recently saw the link to how we can support Michael Flynn's defense fund. I did so even though it wasn't much. I would like to know if you could keep that up for awhile so people can see it who might not have seen it. It is just such a shame that he was made a pawn and it has virtually ruined his life. I know no one is perfect but 30 years of service to his country needs to be honored. Just posting that one time, in my opinion isn't enough.

    Sincerely,
    Jo
Blessings to Sarah who is such a bright star.

I see that the house democrats (WHOSE PARTICIPATION IN THE IMPEACHMENT IS OVER!!!!) want White House Counsel Pat Cipollone to not be part of the defense team. Of course, they will go right on down the line to try to get ALL lawyers removed--they want to try anything to prevent the President from having defense lawyers. The letter was from shiff---I just have to ROFLMA every time I read chair of the INTELLIGENCE committee. I swear--the left knows as well as everyone else this guy is NOT intelligent. He LIES, and the lies aren't even intelligent!!

I must say, I don't know all of the committees, bills, etc mitt romney has been on, so really only know of his RINO capabilities for some of the outrageous stances he has taken--certainly not conservative. But, it's good to see him with his conservative wits about him to stand up to shumer and the ridiculous rules he (shumer) wants to establish. Do they not see how stupid it all is to essentially declare no Republican should be participating in the process, but to allow every democrat to do so?

Finally saw some of the post protest "news" reports from msm--They were as ludicrous in that as they were in their dire predictions (hopes) for riots, mayhem, arrests, injury and even death. Just like in the Tea Party coverage, they want people to think only white people showed up when in both instances, there were people of every race. I'm waiting to hear exactly what the governor de-escalated. It WAS peaceful, because the extreme left and extreme right were all too cowardly to be in a place where their targets (peaceful protesters of anything) were likely to be armed. They only attack defenseless groups. Plus, the pro-2nd Amendment crowd by far outnumbered them, even if both groups banded together.

Governor: The link to President Trump's accomplishments is a definite must read & impressive. I have already bookmarked it. I can only assume & hope that this list of accomplishments be part of the President's campaign rallies & campaign ads. And I hope that many conservative news outlets & radio will repeat & add to this list often between now &the 2020 election. Could you imagine how even greater &stronger this country could have grown & the national pride we could have if it wasn't for the Democrats & the mainstream media. I hope huge masses of voters remember that. I think that we as Republicans should not become over confident that President Trump will be re-elected with a landslide, because potential voters then have a tendency to stay home. I believe the right mindset is that we Republican, Patriotic voters should go to the polls as if we are ten points behind & all votes are needed. ( We all know the Democrats will have no problem cheating to try to win an election).

Gov. I am not even watching most of this debacle on Impeaching Pres Trump. Why, this is a scam they have concocted per their many lawyers to try to take this Pres down? Who is this Congress the hateful Watters out of Calif and the things she has to say hateful. None of the Democrats say how wrong she is and stop this? WHY? We out here are now burned out on the whole Mueller event and nothing on Russia to show? Over 2 yr. Now a phone call and why not ask what was going on per VP Biden and his son what is wrong with this is there more to hide then they want to get out? Something stinks in the Apple Barrel!

How much did impeachment cost day 1 for US taxpayer?? $$$$.
