The So-Called Equality Act

My Show Monologue from February 27

I can’t think of any kind decent American who is against Civil Rights or Equality. An underpinning of our very existence as a country is “…all men are created equal, endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights…” What’s not to embrace in those words? But when politicians start re-defining what equal or a “right” means, the very meaning of such words are turned inside out and with it our culture and our country.

President Biden has made the passage of the so-called Equality Act to be one of his highest priorities. Sounds pretty innocuous since equality is a good thing. But the Equality Act, introduced last year by Nancy Pelosi is not as it sounds. It adds 2 new designations the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which was and remains landmark legislation to end racial discrimination in voting, housing, employment, and participation in civic affairs. The Equality Act would add sexual orientation and gender identity to classes of protected civil rights. This is not a minor adjustment. This would mean that a person who declares oneself to be homosexual or transgender would be given protections given to those who are biologically black or Asian, Native American or female, or who despite being a biological male, would have to be treated as a biological female merely on the basis of declaring one’s gender as female.

While you may think this doesn’t concern you, think again. If you are a business owner, you could lose your business license and be prosecuted for a hate crime and/or discrimination for adhering to Biblical marriage standards and declining to print wedding invitations for a same-sex couple, or being a doctor and refusing to perform a double mastectomy and hysterectomy on a 14 year gender dysphoric girl who decides to “identify” as a boy. If her parents forbid the surgery, they could lose custody of their daughter. That actually happened to parents of a 17 year old girl in Ohio who refused to put their daughter on body altering testosterone when she wanted to be a boy.

Men would be allowed to sleep, shower, disrobe, and live with biological females at a battered women’s shelter. Men TSA agents who “identify” as women would perform strip searches on females. Churches would be forced to allow boys to occupy girls’ dorms and showers at church camps or Christian colleges. And boys who declare themselves to be girls are already participating in women’s sports, dominating the sports and demoralizing the women and destroying their chances of athletic scholarships.

And if I simply say, “God created male and female, and it says so in the Bible,” I could be sued for discrimination, lose whatever business I’m in, and be labeled guilty of a hate crime.

A teacher was fired for refusing to use masculine pronouns for a female student who wanted to be treated as a male. If you own a business that involves artistic expression, be it cooking, calligraphy, cake-decorating, or making t-shirts and decline expressing support for a gender transition party, you can be sued, charged with discrimination by the government and put out of business. The rights of a male pretending to be a woman will be protected, but your right seeking to actually live as a Christian will be eliminated.

You should contact your Senator, and tell them to stop stepping on the rights of some to give special rights to others in an insane unwillingness to follow science of basic biology. Here’s some science: There are two genders-male and female. We are assigned one in the womb at conception. We can have surgery and hormone therapies to change our physical features, but we can’t just make a declaration that we are something we are not and force the rest of the country to accept that as normal. And an act of Congress can change the law, but not even an act of Congress can re-write Scripture.

These Biology FACTS, Got A College Student Suspended For Posting Them On Instagram

The State University of New York-Geneseo suspended an education student for posting on his personal Instagram account, “A man is a man, a woman is a woman. A man is not a woman and a woman is not a man.” This got him reported by students claiming to be deeply wounded by his obvious observations about biology.

The school’s president put out an email stressing her “deep personal commitment to promoting social justice” (but obviously not science or free speech), and the administration claimed that Owen Stephens’ comments called into question his ability to fulfill a teacher’s requirement to “maintain a classroom environment protecting the mental and emotional well-being of all students.” They demanded he delete his Instagram posts, reduce his social media presence and undergo a training program in gender sensitivity. He refused, having come to SUNY for an education, not a re-education.

Two points:

First, the fact that he believes in basic biological fact doesn’t mean that as a teacher later in life, he would say anything to hurt the feelings of trans students. They’re making the assumption that the grads they’re turning out won’t be professionals, which gives me yet another reason to question the value of a degree from SUNY.

Second, the funny thing about biology is that it’s an actual science, which means it doesn’t give a flying fig about your feelings. It’s about facts, and one of the immutable facts of biology is that it’s determined in the womb whether you will be male or female, with XY or XX chromosomes, and no amount of hormone shots, surgery or wishful thinking is ever going to change that. We should all be kind and respectful to people who are dealing with gender identity issues, but that doesn’t mean we should all have to pretend that biological facts aren’t true or that they can be altered simply by wanting them to be, any more than you can reverse gravity by sincerely believing that if you jump off a building, you’ll fall up.

I would suggest that Owen read this story for a hint as to what his next move might be:

I’d also suggest that he get the heck out of SUNY’s education department and transfer to another university’s biology department. Unfortunately, these days, even biologists are expected to renounce basic biology, if it contradicts politically correct magical thinking.

On that subject, here’s an article by a Princeton mathematics professor, warning of how “woke” ideology and idiotic concepts such as “white math” and declaring the scientific method and “right” answers to be white supremacist concepts are destroying STEM studies. As I always say, never get on a jet designed by someone who learned that the right answer to a science or math question is whatever makes you feel good about yourself.

On Sunday’s Golden Globe Awards, the hosts, presenters and winners seemed to spend much of their time remarking on the lack of diversity in the nominations. And in yet another sign that viewers are sick of woke lectures from wealthy celebrities, the TV ratings cratered to an all-time low.

While not the final figures, quick overnight ratings estimated the audience at 5.42 million viewers. For context, that’s 60% lower than last year. Former President Trump’s CPAC speech was watched by 31 million people on online sources alone.

The last time the Globes had an audience close to that was in 2008, when a writers’ strike forced the show to be canceled and they just held a press conference to announce that winners. Even that drew over 6 million viewers, more than Sunday’s NBC telecast.

I’m sure some will argue that it has nothing to do with all the woke leftist lecturing, because the ratings for virtually all awards shows are way down from previous years. Yep, and why do you think THAT is?

I’d suggest that they try bringing back Ricky Gervais as host. People don’t tune in to hear him “share HIS truth,” but to tell “THE truth.”

I guess they’ll never figure this out, so I’ll try telling them one more time before they go bankrupt: first of all, stop insulting and talking down to your audience. We look to Hollywood for entertainment, not moral enlightenment. Hollywood is less capable of providing that these days than it is of coming up with an original idea.

Also, when you spend the whole show telling us that the nominations were unfair and racist and didn’t go to the people who deserved them, why should we care who wins the awards? And why should we take lectures about racism from you when you’re telling us how racist your own industry is? Maybe if you spent less time talking about equality and more time focusing on actual quality, the awards would mean something again.

AINSWORTH: A DR. SEUSS PARODY, as he is canceled

Happy Birthday to the late, beloved children’s writer, Dr. Seuss! Actually, his birthday was Tuesday, March 2, which in 1998 was dubbed in his honor “Read Across America Day.”

So, you’d think this would have been a good day for the memory of Dr. Seuss, author of HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS, THE CAT IN THE HAT, GREEN EGGS AND HAM, HORTON HEARS A WHO! and other classics. In stories like THE SNEETCHES, he directly addressed social issues such as racism and tolerance at a time when these concepts were largely ignored, emphasizing to children how, deep down, we as human beings transcend superficial differences.

However, he didn’t address racism in exactly the way “anti-racists” in 2021 say he should have. To leftists who are always moving the goal posts, Dr. Seuss wasn't "woke" enough and didn’t go far enough, offering only a general message of acceptance when he should have gone on to address “structural power imbalances.” And some of his drawings intended to suggest different ethnicities are interpreted as racist today, because of their exaggeration of some physical characteristics. This started with an accusation by the Southern Poverty Law Center, which condemned him for signs of “anti-Orientalism” and “anti-blackness.”

Dr. Seuss cannot defend himself, being, after all, dead. But anyone with half a brain –- this excludes most leftists, I realize –- who has read his books should know how he felt about race and see that this modern depiction of him is wrong. He wanted to show the absurdity of racism. Doesn’t matter –- Dr. Seuss was dis-honored and essentially canceled by President Biden on...yes, his birthday. His name was literally written out of the proclamation for this year’s “Read Across America Day.” And Dr. Seuss Business Enterprises, the business dedicated to preserving and protecting the author’s legacy, announced it would pull six of his books from publication due to “allegedly racist and insensitive imagery.” Details at the link.

Standards certainly do change; it was just six years ago that then-First Lady Michelle Obama participated in a Dr. Seuss reading with a roomful of kids in “Cat In The Hat” hats. Even President Obama, in a live appearance, cited the story THE SNEETCHES as one way to learn about racism and treating each other the same. Both Obamas have heaped praise on Dr. Seuss.

Ah, but now, in this age of “anti-racism,” we’re not supposed to treat each other the same.

If Dr. Seuss were still with us, he might agree that some of his artwork from decades ago seems stereotypical or unflattering today, and he might even want to revise them. Who knows? But he isn’t here. There has to be a way to treat classic books, such as these and others like Mark Twain’s masterpiece HUCKLEBERRY FINN, so that young people will see them in the context of their times and understand their intended messages AGAINST racism. But don’t expect public schools to do it.

Never one to let a good parody opportunity go to waste, I decided to write one in honor of Dr. Seuss (Theodor Seuss Geisel), who would have been 117 on Tuesday, March 2.

HOW THE LEFT STOLE READING

(a parody of HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS)

Every kid down in Kidville liked reading a LOT
But the Left, who controlled education, did NOT!
They wouldn’t say why, but we all know one reason:
To read the wrong book means you’re guilty of treason

They also just hated the folks on the Right
They said we’re oppressors –- at least, if we’re white
But I think that the most likely reason of all
May have been that their brains were two sizes too small

Whatever the reason, their brains or their hate
They cancelled the books that they deemed out of date
They stared at the kids from their i-vory tower
While focusing all of their brainwashing power

“We can’t let them read Dr. Seuss!” they’d exclaim
We have to get started erasing his name
We’ll target six books with some troublesome art
While keeping in mind that it’s only the start

“Kids LOVE Dr. Seuss!” said the folks on the Right
They knew they were facing a censorship fight
“He taught children how to be loving and kind
And how they could grow up to be ‘color-blind’”

“Color-blind??!” screamed the left, their eyes practically bleeding
We MUST find a way to keep children from reading!
To think, the un-wokeness their minds could retain
They’re reading the Bible! They’re reading Mark Twain!

“And old Dr. Seuss, he’s the worst of the lot
If kids want to read him, we’ll say they must NOT!
We’ll say he’s a bigot and lacks credibility
And give all the children that book WHITE FRAGILITY

“We’ll find all the books that aren’t focused on race
And gather them up, and we’ll hide them someplace
We’ll substitute books that reflect our obsession
With transgender studies and racial oppression

The kids down in Kidville would all cry boo-hoo
When they found out what leftists decided to do
The fun books were gone, and they felt really sad
The white kids were taught they deserve to feel bad

But parents arose, they had had quite enough
They fought for their kids, and it got pretty rough
They went to the School Board, and all had their say
And their courage and heart grew three sizes that day!

They brought back the books that the left had rejected
And made sure that freedom of speech was protected
The books were all safe and were put to good use
And we, ourselves, honor the ones...by...Dr. Seuss!
