Once more, with feeling: WHY did Nancy Pelosi go to Taiwan??

With the national security issues raised by Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan –- especially considering the China-compromised President we’re currently enduring –- it was only natural to wonder why she planned this trip in the first place, though few seemed to be asking. Why escalate tensions in the region so dramatically, perhaps even give China a pretext for invading Taiwan? It just seems reckless. I didn’t want to speculate too much, but simply to ask the question and to note that it didn’t seem to make any sense, at least from a national security perspective. But others are starting to examine this as well.

FOX News financial analyst Charlie Gasparino has apparently been wondering about it. As Jesse Watters reported last evening, Gasparino tweeted on Tuesday that “Of course with @SpeakerPelosi’s trip Wall Street trading desk chatter involves how [spouse] Paul Pelosi is gaming the markets to make a few bucks. Speculation he’s shorting the S&P. Just rumor but Paul’s penchant to trade colors everything she does now.”

Sure enough, Anders Hagstrom at FOX Business News reports that “stocks in Asia plummeted overnight as it became clear that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi would be visiting Taiwan on Tuesday.”

https://www.foxbusiness.com/markets/asia-stocks-tank-nancy-pelosi-touches-down-taiwan

We can’t say that was the reason for her trip, or even the main reason, but the fact that we and others are raising the question about it is certainly enough reason for banning stock trading for legislators and their spouses.

Pelosi was reportedly set to meet with TSMC, the largest semiconductor manufacturer in the world, which produces advanced semiconductors for companies such as Apple. Her husband Paul has reportedly been buying up shares of chip companies in advance of Nancy’s trip.

Once the Speaker had touched down, the WASHINGTON POST, as if on cue, published her surprisingly (for her) hawkish op-ed headlined, “Nancy Pelosi: Why I’m leading a Congressional delegation to Taiwan.” In it, she says, “We cannot stand by as the CCP proceeds to threaten Taiwan --- and democracy itself.” I’m linking to Pelosi’s web page only because WAPO is subscription only.

So, again, why is Pelosi kicking the ant bed at this moment? Jesse Watters deserves major kudos for finding and running a clip of her warning the American Olympic team to avoid criticizing Beijing: “I would say to our athletes, you’re there to compete. Do not risk incurring the anger of the Chinese government, because they are ruthless.”

Tell me, Madame Speaker, has the CCP gotten LESS ruthless since Biden became President?

Primary Round-up

Here is a round-up of stories about the results in Tuesday’s primary elections in Arizona, Missouri, Michigan, Kansas and Washington.

https://www.foxnews.com/live-news/voters-decide-primary-elections-in-michigan-missouri-kansas-arizona-and-washington-live-updates

And here are continually-updated vote counts:

https://redstate.com/redstatestaff/2022/08/02/live-election-results-arizona-kansas-michigan-missouri-washington-n605343

One of the biggest stories of the night is that first-term Michigan Rep. Peter Meijer, one of only 10 Republicans who voted to impeach Trump over the January 6th riot, lost his seat to Trump-backed John Gibbs. Meijer is the second pro-impeachment Republican to lose his seat. Four others have retired, and while Washington returns aren’t fully in yet at this writing, it appears that Reps. Jaime Herrera Beutler and Dan Newhouse have survived challenges to their seats. But I hope they’re not looking forward to spending a lot of time hanging out with Liz Cheney next year.

https://www.westernjournal.com/trump-backed-john-gibbs-triumphs-pro-impeachment-republican-incumbent/

This was one of the races that the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and other leftwing groups unethically meddled in, spending $425,000 to boost Gibbs in the belief that it will be easier to paint him as a rightwing “extremist” and take over that seat. Of course, to do that, they’ll have to slander a black man, but as we’ve all learned, racism is okay as long as it’s aimed at black Republicans, who “aren’t really black.”

The Cook Political Report moved that district from “toss-up” to “leans Democrat” after Gibbs’ win. But I am hopeful that in November, the Dems will be crying over burning all that cash to help replace a moderate Republican with a MAGA Republican.

Trump Endorsement Watch, Election Notes

President Trump boasted that all his endorsed candidates won in Kansas and Missouri, although he was fudging a bit. In the Missouri GOP Senate race, he had endorsed “Eric,” and Eric Schmitt easily beat Eric Greitens, so…technically, advantage Trump.  In Kansas, Trump-endorsed Derek (not Eric?) Schmidt will challenge incumbent Democrat Gov. Laura Kelly.

In the Arizona GOP Governor’s Primary, contrary to pre-election polls, establishment-backed Karrin Taylor Robson took an early lead over Trump-endorsed Kari Lake. But as the night went on, Lake gradually caught up, thanks to a wide lead in the in-person ballots. As of this writing, Lake is ahead by 12,000 votes, but it’s still considered “too close to call” for some reason. The winner will face Democrat Katie Hobbs.

This is already fueling more suspicions of, let us say, “shenanigans” in Arizona (I don’t think the “fact-checkers” have flagged that word yet.) Some Republicans are puzzled as to why Republicans who voted early and by mail were overwhelmingly pro-Robson while people in the same Party who voted on Election Day favored Lake by a huge margin.

The suspicions will only be inflamed by news that 63,000 mail-in ballots in Pinal County were delivered to the wrong voters, and that there were shortages of ballots in Republican precinct locations. Earlier, about 46,000 incorrect ballots were mailed out. There were also anecdotal reports of precinct workers informing voters that one candidate on the ballot had dropped out. That’s considered illegal vote tampering because it’s the voter’s responsibility to know that, and telling them might make them change their votes and affect the outcome.

https://www.toddstarnes.com/politics/breaking-63000-mail-in-ballots-went-to-wrong-voters-in-republican-heavy-pinal-county-arizona/

All these problems were blamed on human error or miscommunications, and the Republican ballot shortage was chalked up to “unprecedented demand at GOP polling places.” But the RNC and the Republican Party of Arizona called it “a comprehensive failure that disenfranchises Arizonans” and called on Pinal County Elections Director David Frisk to resign immediately. If Lake becomes Governor, he might want to do that anyway, since she’s promised as one of her first acts to open up all the sealed records of the 2020 election for a thorough investigation.

I like to look on the bright side, so I was happy to hear that there was “unprecedented” demand for Republican ballots. Now, every state is forewarned and has no excuse for not having plenty of ballots on hand for people who want to vote Republican in November.

Another Trump-endorsed candidate who won in Arizona is venture capitalist Blake Masters, who will challenge Democrat Senator Mark Kelly. Proving that they really don’t understand Republicans, liberal media outlets attacked Masters for helping to physically eject a BLM protester from a rally after he allegedly hit a woman. That alone probably earned him an extra 50,000 votes from Republicans.  He was also assailed for saying that the “gender pay gap” is a myth, and when you correct for education, experience, tenure and other variables, it virtually disappears.  He also said men tend to hold higher paying jobs because they’re more likely to take dangerous jobs that pay more.

https://valiantnews.com/2022/08/trump-endorsed-blake-masters-wins-arizona-gop-primary-will-challenge-senator-mark-kelly/

Both of those things are provably, objectively true, but as we’ve all learned in recent years, the left deals in feelings, not objective truth.

Finally, I’m sorry to report that Democrats in Michigan once again voted for America-hating socialist “Squad” member Rashida Tlaib, who is virtually guaranteed reelection in that heavily Democrat district. I wish they’d wake up and stop inflicting this woman on America and on themselves. They still have the option to write in someone else. Even a rabid possum would be an improvement.

After reading that, I strongly recommend you wash that story out of your head with this related article by Derek Hunter at Townhall.com, titled, “Why Are There So Many Idiots In Politics?”

https://townhall.com/columnists/derekhunter/2022/08/02/why-are-there-so-many-idiots-in-politics-n2611111

Yes, he namechecks Rep. Tlaib, who “represents” the district where he grew up, and whom he describes as one of several Congress members who “need to wear slip-on shoes because learning to tie a bow is a bridge too far for their mental abilities.”

Give this to the Biden White House

They perfectly represent their “progressive” base in being unable to comprehend the idea that there are some things that are simply none of their business. Even when the Supreme Court specifically tells them, “You do NOT have power over that!,” they just keep on trying to tell everyone what to do about it anyway.

Here are the latest examples, two in one day:

They're continuing to politicize and weaponize the “Justice” Department by suing Idaho to try to overturn its new law banning most abortions – you remember, that issue that the Supreme Court just told them was the province of the states and their elected officials, not the federal government.

https://www.westernjournal.com/biden-weaponizing-justice-department-force-states-abortion-compliance/

Attorney General Merrick Garland is trying to block the law that takes effect on August 25th by claiming it’s superseded by the federal Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act, which requires that patients be provided with treatment to stabilize an emergency medical condition. He also claims that the law would subject doctors to arrest and criminal prosecution, “even if they performed an abortion to save a woman’s life.”

So many words, so much hooey to sort out. First of all, the Idaho law includes an exception for abortions deemed necessary to save the life of the mother, and it gives doctors wide leeway in deciding that, so they will not be arrested --  unless they open up an obvious abortion mill, which I suspect is the actual “right” the Biden DOJ is trying to protect. Also, a pregnancy is not “an emergency medical condition,” and killing the baby is not a “stabilization procedure.”

In the other example of unconstitutional overreach, the Biden HHS has proposed a rule adding “sexual orientation and gender identity” and “reproductive health care services” including “pregnancy termination" to existing “protections against discrimination on the basis of sex.”

https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/251901/would-new-hhs-rule-force-doctors-perform-transgender-surgeries-abortions

The US Catholic Conference of Bishops condemned the move, which would reverse Trump-era conscience protection rules by forcing medical practitioners with religious objections to perform abortions and “gender-affirming” surgery on healthy natural bodies. It could also force religious hospitals to perform these procedures or lose federal funding.

It’s more of this Administration’s never-ending crusade to elevate invented rights about the clearly-enumerated rights of the First Amendment. Let’s all hope that the SCOTUS will kick these efforts to the curb, or at the very least, that our slow-moving legal system will keep them tied up until 2025, when, God willing, everyone who keeps inventing these creative new ways to shred the Constitution and trample religious freedom rights will have been kicked to the curb by the voters.

Okay so sending a delegation to Taiwan was probably/sorta/maybe a good idea but surely we could have found someone better to head up that delegation??? Although l seem to remember then Pres. Obama defending Nancy’s speaker nomination by telling critics something to the effect that “of course she’s qualified - she’s a grandmother who’s managed a household and raised 5 (l think) grand children”… SERIOUSLY???

Nancy Pelosi is a snake. No doubt about it. However, she is the ranking member of congress, and as such, she is a strong voice for our government and democracy. No less of a person of experience and authority, especially having faced THIS EXACT SITUATION WITH CHINA, Newt Gingrich, wrote a piece, just a few days ago saying that Pelosi must go to Taiwan and speak clearly about US support for Taiwan and also that the US would not be cowed or crippled by Chinese aggression, either militarily or economically. I say, kudos to Pelosi, not only for going to Taiwan, but in visiting a semiconductor plant!! I am shocked at the cowardice and panty wringing on the part of Mr. Huckabee and the likes of Tucker Carlson. Shame on you both!

Rashida Tlaib moves forward, and so does Cori Bush, another member of the Squad. I feel bad for Missouri, where I was born and raised.
