Back in 2011, inspired by my book “A Simple Christmas,” I asked listeners of my radio show “The Huckabee Report” to share their own favorite family Christmas memories. Some are heartwarming, some are hilarious, but all of them are inspiring and wonderful.

In recent years, as the news slows down around the holidays (and let us pray that it does this year!), my staffers and I have taken a break around Christmas and New Year’s week to revisit some of these stories from the archives so we can spend a little time with our families. We’ll be starting tomorrow. I hope you find as much entertainment, joy and meaning in these stories as we do. And rest assured, if anything major happens that we feel we have to pass along, we’ll do that. We’ve also prepared lots of other new material in advance. So please keep reading every day!

Between the ongoing supply chain crisis, spiraling inflation and other issues, many people may find it hard to be with their families or have fewer gifts under the tree than in previous years. Many are also still dealing with the heartbreak of an empty place at the table due to COVID taking a loved one. But even though many of us have to scale down our celebrations, I refuse to let anything or anyone “cancel” Christmas. As the Grinch learned, Christmas is not something that comes from a store. Christmas means a whole lot more.

Young people have been misled into thinking this is the worst time ever to be alive, when in fact, despite all our current problems, they are extremely lucky to have been born in this era. They might find it hard to believe, but Americans have lived through far worse times than these, from the Civil War, to World War I and the Spanish flu, to the Depression and World War II to 9/11. Yet we have always survived, come together and overcome the most difficult problems. I’m hopeful that Americans are finally waking up to the real cause of our current miseries and getting ready to remove it. We will “build back better” the way we always have: by doing it ourselves, together, not relying on the government to do it for us.

Previous bad times caused us to have far humbler Christmas celebrations than we do now, but that doesn’t affect the meaning of Christmas. It just reminds us all the more of the extremely humble surroundings at the birth of Jesus, and that Christmas is about the joy of knowing that hope and renewal are always within our grasp when we discover that “God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth on him should not perish, but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)

These wonderful stories and memories are a perfect reminder of what Christmas means and how important it is, especially in hard times, when memories are created that last a lifetime. I hope that some of them will also remind you that even if you’re feeling down because this year’s celebration is sparser than usual, most of us are still incredibly blessed. When we stop dwelling on our own problems and share with those who have even less, that’s the best way to become filled with the joy of the true meaning of Christmas.

I hope you enjoy these stories, and from all of us at the newsletter, my TBN show and MikeHuckabee.com, have a Merry Christmas and a safe and happy New Year!

    Dear Governor Huckabee,
I so enjoy your news articles. They add inspiration to our world. I wish you all the best and even more so to your daughter Sarah for a successful and beneficial career, which I know will happen.
Hi, along with so very many pray that President Trump returns to the White House. No matter who feels that position is going to be attacked if they are Republican.
How I wish they would stop the damn slot and discrimination on this man. His strength is amazing to have endured all.
All the best to you and your family and pray God for a great and powerful, beneficial, 23!

I recently responded to a youtube post by someone saying "Why does everything feel so bad? or something to that affect. It was a young person worried about the condition of the world and if they had a future. I read a whole lot of responses from young people who are actually quite depressed and pessimistic about the future. So I just commented that I was 71 years old and I have lived through difficult times and the country has lived through difficult times (like the civil war and the Great Depression and Vietnam, etc.) and the country survived. Within hours I was getting replies to my message thanking me for giving them hope. As a retired psychologist I was appalled. I guess there is no mainstream media or social media that is throwing these kids a life preserver. How can we get the message across to these kids that the world is not coming to an end. (Hopefully this is true.). Merry Christmas to you and your family.

I admire your optimism, but I can't join in that feeling. I am 82 and find the future looking pretty dim for the USA. I am beginning to think it may be time to water the Tree of Liberty or seriously investigate a secession, peaceable or not. There is nothing I trust in the federal government from the BLS thru the DOJ. I all seems so crooked and in need of cleaning out. Anyway, Merry Christmas to you and yours.

    Gov. Huckabee and Staff,
I want to extend my sincere appreciation to y’all for helping me get a clear, truthful picture of things going on in my world. I am a widowed grandmother in my 70’s and have been a Christian Conservative my whole adult life. I get very upset and disturbed about things I read and see on tv and social media, but I can always count on you to explain and report in a truthful, intelligent manner. I trust you and a lot of the reporters on Fox News to keep me informed with information and truths I can trust in. May God bless you, your families and those around you who do such diligent work! You help me keep the faith that our beloved country does have some good people and that not all is lost! Thank you, please keep on striving to bring the truth to us and may you and yours have a very Merry Christmas!
    Sincerely,
    Linda J. Tucker

If I may be so bold as to call you Mike....Sir.. Been reading your page for a few years now. You're a breath of fresh air in your writings and commentary expressing Christian and common sense values embraced by a majority of patriotic Americans who love this country and want to see it remain free and the home of the brave. With God's help, it will remain so. God bless and have a wonderful Christmas and may 2023 be the best ever for all of us.......Don Sandford .

Merry Christmas To you and your family also Mike. ( Love the part about Grisswald's attic.) I can relate to that Remembering the old rickety barn we never used on our farm in Ohio growing up Wind whipped threw it like a tornado and snow was a foot deep inside. It was 14* with a windchill of -2 this morning in Beaumont Tx this morning.
