Joe Biden's presidential victory is certified

Early this morning, Congress certified the Electoral College vote for Joe Biden for President. Afterward, President Trump issued a statement promising an orderly transition of power on January 20th, signaling to his supporters that his challenge to the vote is over.

Some Republicans still challenged the electoral vote certification, such as Rep. Matt Gaetz

But others who had planned to join the challenge, including Sens. Marsha Blackburn and Kelly Loeffler, changed their minds after the day’s tragic violence inside the Capitol building by a small group of “Trump supporters” (there are unconfirmed reports that some might have been false-flag Antifa agitators, but others were reportedly identified as part of far-right fringe movements that did not reflect the views of thousands of peaceful Trump supporters outside.) Nevertheless, after a year of telling us not to condemn all peaceful protesters because of the violent actions of a few, that’s precisely what Democrats and the media are doing.

Some on the right are comparing the people who broke into the Capitol to American Revolutionaries. But the Founders were not a mindless mob who committed violence with no longterm plan. They resorted to revolution only after exhausting every other alternative. They issued a statement of their rights and grievances and pledged their lives, fortunes and sacred honor to defend it. They didn’t harm their own side by mindlessly smashing windows in the British Parliament. A later revolutionary protester, the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., spoke his piece from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial; he didn’t vandalize it.

Let me be clear: I absolutely and unequivocally condemn the actions of the mob who smashed their way into the Capitol, just as I also call for an investigation of Capitol police who shot and killed Ashli Babbitt, a female Air Force veteran of 14 years.

Here’s more background on Babbitt and the shooting.

In Twitter comments, some people expressed sadness and dismay, but others coldly dismissed her as a traitor and a terrorist and good riddance (I’m sure the same people who are outraged over police brutality against leftist protesters.) It’s true that no one should have breached the barricades Antifa-style, shattered a window, entered the building and confronted security officers. It was a terrible thing. But why were they met with gunfire? I remember Democrats reacting with outrage at a Trump suggestion that looters be shot. In a tragic update, the DC Police have said that four people are now dead, although they didn’t release the causes, which are reportedly medical.

I am gratified to see that, at long last, Democrats are finally condemning mob violence. Only a few months ago, Washington, DC, and many other cities were ablaze; there were riots, arson, looting and assaults on federal buildings and monuments; and their response was to defend the mob and prosecute anyone who stood up to them. Nancy Pelosi infamously said she didn’t care about some old buildings. It’s suddenly a very different matter when one of those “old buildings” is the one with her office in it.

I’ll stress that pointing out the other side’s hypocrisy and Johnny-come-lately outrage is not an excuse. There is no excuse for breaking-and-entering and disrupting the constitutionally-mandated joint session of the House and Senate that was to certify (or not) the state electors. This was perhaps the ONE CHANCE before January 20 that Republicans would have to present their evidence of election fraud, unconstitutionality and error that might have shown Trump to be the actual winner in certain contested states. It’s something that needed to happen, calmly, openly, rationally. More investigation will be needed to determine why these people felt oddly compelled to disrupt this process and undermine the cause of thousands of peaceful Trump supporters outside.

And about Trump supporters: again, NOT AN EXCUSE, but let's look at how many of us feel right now. We’ve been treated like second-class citizens going on five years. In some professions, we can’t even hint at our political leanings. The blacklist against conservatives is as pervasive and powerful as the one used against leftists in the McCarthy era. The Ivy League elite have consistently condescended to us. On college campuses, conservatives risk being “canceled,” even dropped from academic programs because of some "problematic" tweet. The media try to gaslight us at every turn, repeatedly and with no evidence telling us that our President cares only for himself and is a traitor, an agent of Russia. We're tired of being told that 2+2=5. All the while, they bury stories about Hillary, the Bidens, and the partisan federal bureaucracy out to get Trump and anyone on his side.

It’s gotten worse since the election. The deep concerns of millions have been dismissed. Even in the face of wild statistical anomalies and numerous unexplained election-night oddities, questioning the results in any way is forbidden. “Why, this election was PERFECT!” we’re told. “It was the most secure election we have ever had in our history!” Good grief, we don’t have to be crazy conspiracy theorists to recognize these grandiose remarks as overstatements at the very least. Shakespeare might say that election officials “doth protest too much.”

We’ve seen blatant misreporting in the mainstream media, who prefer the false narrative that “courts have dismissed every one of the Trump lawsuits because, as we all know, there is no evidence.” In truth, the courts find other reasons, such as the inexplicable “lack of standing,” to keep from HAVING to look at any evidence. When the Supreme Court, the highest court in the land, does this, what is the recourse?

About 70 million Americans suspect that the results of this election are not to be trusted. But these people have been shut down, silenced, and banned from social media or flagged as “misinformation” or “disputed” for daring even to question it. Even the President himself has been treated this way. If we have to sweep this under the rug, as Democrats and the media (but I repeat myself) insist we do, we will never trust another election again.

So when media pundits say that challenging these election results is “interfering with democracy,” I say they’re off by 180 degrees. Under current conditions, challenging the election results is SAVING democracy. Stand back, let the Constitution do its work, and let the chips fall where they may.

The violence on Wednesday wasn't just completely unacceptable, it was downright stupid. It was stupid because the worst consequence --- not counting, of course, the loss of four lives --- is that the visuals of the Capitol being stormed will be exploited forever, used as justification to go full pedal-to-the-metal in quashing the rights of conservatives. Take away their civil liberties, leftists will cry; those people shouldn’t have any say! Why, those right-wing racists/sexists/homophobes/traitors don’t deserve a voice, a place in society, or even a way to make a living. Shun them! Cancel them! (And forget all the video of leftists smashing and burning cities from coast-to-coast.)

All of that was coming anyway, incrementally, if they gained power, but this event by a relatively small number of people hastens it.

For all those who are upset at the way the election was handled, and worried about the future of America under Democrat rule, join the club. But we’ve known for two months that any challenges to the November election were the longest of longshots. I defended Trump’s right to make those challenges legally and constitutionally, but it was never likely that Congress would reject electors that the states had certified.

Probably the best that we could hope for was that the challenges might result in what Ted Cruz called for (basically, what I called for just days after the election): an open, bipartisan investigation of alleged voting irregularities, so that if there was anything illegal it would come to light, and if not, Americans could be assured that the vote was trustworthy and Biden wouldn’t govern under a cloud of suspicion.

Now, thanks to the unforgivable actions of hotheads, even that hope has been dashed. Democrats may think they’ve pulled out a hat trick here: they’ve escaped an audit of the vote, Biden’s victory is certified, and Trump and all his supporters are permanently tarnished. But millions of Americans who feel their concerns have been dismissed and their voices silenced will not go away simply because the media try to shame them into it. 

Our leaders had one chance to repair the tattered fabric of trust in elections that enables a nation of 320 million people of very different views to accept the results and move on, and they didn’t take it. I hope Joe Biden is sincere in his claim that he wants to be the President of all Americans, but sadly, that job just became far more difficult.

Trump supporters aghast at today's inexcusable violence

“I am asking for everyone at the U.S. Capitol to remain peaceful. No violence! Remember, WE are the Party of Law & Order --- respect the Law and our great men and women in Blue. Thank you!”

President Trump tweeted this in response to the violence that erupted Wednesday at the Capitol Building, when some “Trump supporters” broke through barricades and stormed the building, breaking windows, getting rough with police in the halls, even entering the House chamber. As this is being written, news has just broken that one of the people who got shot in the melee has died.

Trump is right: we ARE the party of law and order, but I think most of us will agree that he needs to be a lot tougher in his condemnation of this. The same can be said of the video statement he released. Of course, virtually every news outlet who posted his tepid “go home” video had to editorialize, saying that Trump “repeated false claims” of election fraud. Facebook took it down.

So did YouTube.

Trump also tweeted this on Wednesday: “Mike Pence didn’t have the courage to do what should have been done to protect our Country and our Constitution, giving States a chance to certify a corrected set of facts, not the fraudulent or inaccurate ones which they were asked to previously certify. USA demands the truth!”

Well, yes, Mr. President, but in the USA, at least those of us on the right, also demand that the Constitution be meticulously followed. Vice President Pence obviously was doing what he thought was right concerning his role in this. We may disagree with him –- numerous constitutional experts do, and Alan Dershowitz isn’t sure –- and you obviously disagree with him, but please, right now, stay out of that process and stop pressuring him.

Trump told his supporters to go home, but no reaction to this violence is complete without a total, vociferous condemnation. We all condemned the truly awful violence coming from the Democrat side this summer when their party and the media (but I repeat myself) failed to do it. In this case, it’s just as wrong, no matter who is behind it.

We are aghast at this.

We really are better than that...

Mark Steyn, speaking on Wednesday’s TUCKER CARLSON show, had a sharp observation: “It’s always interesting to me that people are surprised when a tactic that’s proved effective for one group of people is then suddenly taken up by other people of whom they don’t approve.”

"There’s been a complete collapse of equality before the law,” Steyn explained. “The more [people on the left] are not subject to any laws, the more onerous the burden that falls upon the law-abiding.” Those on the left can do anything, he said, while those law-abiding souls on the right are “micro-regulated.” (To quote Victor Davis Hanson, “Ideology trumps accountability.”)

"At some point, that has to give,” he said. “And whoever is behind this, to a certain degree, that ‘gave’ today in Washington.”

If that’s what we’re seeing, we conservatives will have to be careful not to become the thing we hate, as so often happens to people. (It’s certainly happened to the left, who used to be pro-free speech.) It may sound cliché to say it at this point, but we really are better than that.

    Mike, I'm extremely frustrated. I have just read an article that states that they just did to David Purdeau and Kelly Loeffler what they did to President Trump. They used shenanigans to once again manipulate the votes and so the republicans lost...AGAIN. The people were wrong to act violently when they stormed the government house that houses all of our supposed elected representatives (I think they only represent themselves) but what other way was there to show that they were frustrated? They did not do even a fraction of the stuff that antifa and BLM did but they are chastised by both democrats and republicans alike. The republicans did not cause this much of a stir when the riots were caused by the democrat minions, when they burned/looted/injured/killed. What are we to do? Do we just keep taking it and accepting it? How do we fight an enemy within the US of A which is like a cancer that keeps growing and getting bigger/bolder/stronger? Is this God's punishment for us allowing things to happen that we never should have, such as abortion (which the dems plan on making available on demand and the taxpayer paying for it). WHAT DO WE DO???????

    Like many others, I believe the problems at the Capital was instigated by Antifa and I believe the Democrats had a lot to do with it. It was to their benefit and it was another way of hurting Trump and Republicans. I feel so bad for him. He is the best president we have had. He did so much for America; home and abroad. The democrats have lied, cheated and everything they could to hurt him. We know they stole the election. They will get away with it, as always just like the Biden's will. It's so sad how corrupt the democrats are and even when caught, they never pay the price! Thank you Mike for your great newsletters.

    Democrats are now condemning mob violence since they can say it is Trump's fault. We are the party of Law and Order and what has it gotten us? Nothing. We had an election stolen from us and knowing what they did after the 11/3 election, they still couldn't prevent it from happening in the Georgia runoff. All investigations of treason will now be swept under the rug. When people talk about changing things during the 2022 election they are ignoring the facts. We will never have a fair election again which means Democrats and their policies will rule. I am disgusted with the Republican Party's 'sit back and take it' behavior. Complete collapse of equality, indeed.

    Sir, I voted Tuesday. Since I am one of those old people (80) Obama wants dead, an Absentee ballot was sent in the mail. However, I managed to make a mess of it and voted in person - no lines. The voting system they used from Dominion is wide open for fraud. I was appalled that a system so poorly designed would be used, but what the heck, Soros paid for it.

    I was happy they properly validated my Absentee ballot to be real and then allowed me to vote in person. They proved I was not a Carpetbagger voter! The Carpetbagger voters were all congregated in the Blue areas of Georgia run by Stacy Abrams. I am sure most have already changed their residence back to where they came from.

    As with past elections, a plastic card was stuck into the voting machine, and then you paged through the selections, then you verified your selections, and (here is the new Fraud Area) then the ballot was printed out. Still in the new Fraud area, the newly printed ballot was fed into another machine to be read. I suppose this newly captured info was then sent to Atlanta for tabulation.

    I know I am dumber than a rock (AAS, BS, MBA), but every time a data stream is opened to human intervention it can and WILL become tainted. As Jerry Clower would say: OOOH, the Fraud was rampant!!!

    RIP - the United States Died January 5, 2021. We are now a Marxist Country run by the Marxist-Democrats. It took the Bolshevik Revolution just over 100 years to take us down.

    Blessings to you Governor Huckabee. First I wish to offer my deepest condolences and send my prayers for Ashli Babbit. Her murder needs to be fully investigated and any appropriate charges should be filed. I also condemn the invasion of the Capitol buildings. However, my question is, where do we proceed from here? I believe there was ample evidence of vote fraud to warrant a FULL forensic investigation, at least in the contested states. Or should we just settle for the fact that we (at least half of us in the USA) will never trust that any election will be conducted honestly and fairly again? If there was vote fraud it needs to be exposed NOW and not in the future. If there was no vote fraud, each allegation of fraud should be proven it is not true. Up to this point, as far as I can tell, those making the allegations of vote fraud have not had the proper opportunities to present their cases in courts of law or in either chamber of Congress. In my humble opinion all of the potential evidence has been summarily dismissed at every level of government, without any meaningful investigations. Many others would probably agree with me, as evidenced by the breech of the Capitol building. When millions of citizens believe their government no longer represents them they may be thinking of the words of Thomas Jefferson. Jefferson said, quote: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.—That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed. — That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles, and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness… it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security". As a disenfranchised American citizen and voter I ask again, where do we go from here?

    With all the security usually at the capital I don't understand why they were allowed to just walk in to the Capital, they were not running as to hurry and get somewhere. The were not armed My opinion is that this a fix someone in the government allowed this to happen, just so the senators who were disagreeing with the electro votes would be interrupted, and that is what was accomplished, because , a few senators changes their minds about confirming the votes.

    Democrats are only condemning this violence because it's related to Trump. For the past year we have had to witness rioting, looting, and burning of businesses and were told that this was acceptable by the dems because this was a "peaceful" protest. The dems just don't get it-no sense of decency. And do we remember Pelosi ripping up the state of the union message on camera? Let's be clear here-this is the dem's fault and continues to escalate day after day. Double standard-we don't have to follow the law-covid guidelines, etc. but the rest of you (us) have to obey. We're not stupid-we all know that Trump and the GA senate race was rigged. Lord help us!!

    I am more than upset over the theift of the 2020 election. America has been robbed, abetted by VP (traitor) Pense!!! He deserves to be forcibly removed and placed in front of a firing squad.     As a Brit, I’m saddened by the situation in the USA because the rest of the free world will also suffer under Biden/Harris. As a Catholic, I’m appalled by both Biden and pelosi claiming to be Catholic, while directly apposing the teaching of the Church. They are a scandal across the world. At the levels of faith, humanity and politics, they are a disaster. We need to pray continually for America, for these people and all who are intent on destroying the Judeo/Christian civilisation. My own country, the UK is heading in the same direction. I have no doubt that the persecution will increase. The evil one is flexing his muscles, out of shear hatred for the entire human family. The police that escorted them & the person who gave the order need to go to prison ASAP and never see the light of day again.

    Gov. Huckabee, I would like to know how many Antifa insurgents were present at the front line of this melee. This has the Soros brand all over it and seems to have achieved the likely goal of nullifying any effort to question and examine the election results in a handful of states. Many first-person accounts by peaceful protestors witness to the Antifa-like attire and equipment of people in the crowd. Video I saw was classic Portlandesque Antifa...minus the flames.

    This display was tragic. It is time to give it up and do the best we can under less than ideal circumstances. Our liberal friends will soon see the error of there ways when their comfortable retirement investments fade and their health care is rationed because they are older. The young people have already suffered a blow when told by Biden he did not intend to cancel their student loans. It will be shocking to see the number of social workers that are injured or killed answering domestic violence calls. Quality of health care professionals will go down because financial rewards will not be an incentive. Costs of drugs will go down but research will diminish. New taxes will erode people’s income which will erode spending which will erode production, which will erode income and investment. Erosion will impair the functions of non profits as donations will go down. I imagine that faith based health care and related religious charitable organizations will close. That’s a lot of Catholic and Adventist Hospitals. They will close rather than abort. More less than perfect newborn babies will be made comfortable but not treated or fed. Our facilities will implode trying to care for an huge influx of immigrants. Terrorist incidents will increase. Major cities will be increasingly unlivable. Black children will continue to be undereducated and incompetent teachers retained. As children become increasingly disrespectful and sometimes dangerous, fewer will become teachers. We are unlikely to see anyone but a .Dem in the Whitehouse for many years if ever. We will become just another middle to poor socialist nation if not fully communist. Religious rights will be nonexistent. Churches will close. China will have our lunch especially with the hold they will have over the present administration. My liberal friends will be shocked when Kamala is president quite soon. The swamp will be very happy. Their lucrative government jobs will be protected as long as they never voice anything against the regime. We will have a civil war within the next ten years.

    in basic training in 1967 I was nearly killed by a fellow soldier in a live fire training exercise. Now that I see that this country that I fought and loved can allow a sitting president to be overthrown in a stolen election I now wish I had died in that exercise. I doubt that I will get a grave but what ever I get I will go to that place believing that this election was stolen from Trump and the Georgia candidates who ran against the democrats.

    I attended one of the larger Trump rallies yesterday 1/6/21 in Salem Oregon. Antifa were there in force with many of them mingling in the crowd of Trump supporters. My friend and I could see that the potential for a real problem was apparent. The same thing took place in DC. Those people breaking windows and prying open the doors were paid antifa morons.

    Sadly, in every flock, there are some weak sheep. Once there was access to the inside, many well intended Americans went inside. Their hope of course was to stop the travesty of our election system happening inside. It cost one patriot her life.

    We left as the Salem police were proclaiming the gathering of antifa / pyrotechnicians an illegal assembly. I was there to support our President, not to get clubbed in the back of the head like the guy standing next to me.

    I want to make a couple of statements.
    First: Our system of justice’s horrific failure of the American public is on full display. Some of the world’s best attorneys were working for Trump and they couldn’t get a court in the nation to hear the evidence, on procedural grounds. Who stabbed the President and the American people in the back? The attorneys or the judges? It was one or the other.

    Second: When the President of the United States of America cannot get justice in an American court, how does the average citizen stand a chance.

    As I see it, massive election fraud and backroom deals are the order of the day. If you go to court for any reason from j-walking to homicide while defending your home, it won’t be about the evidence, it will be, who can cut the best deal with the court. “Your honor, while I believe the evidence speaks for itself, here are the keys to that new Lincoln SUV you’re been eying.”

    In the last year, we were preparing for an election, while Democrats were, for the last 4 years, were preparing for war. It has been said, "all is fair in love and war." That's not true in an election. we should have prepared for war. Now we have to prepare to take back America... again. It will be a war, we just don't know what kind yet.

    There should have been no violence. I really hate that and do condone it in any way. I have been reading that they really were "antifa" in maga hats, which sounds just like something that the left would do. But "We The People" have been treated not like "second class citizens" but as non-people. I am more than disappointed in the "conservatives" that turned on us. I do not want to be a socialist/communist country. I guess the ones that turned must have been paid well. How sad that we "used" to be the greatest country in the world. At this time I don't plan to ever vote again because it obviously makes no difference. Criminals now rule out country. Why bother? I am a Christian and I have prayed and prayed and prayed. I feel pretty let down, not with God mind you. Can you help me feel better about this horrible outcome? I usually get most of my information from you but have been so depressed I haven't been reading everything.

Yet nothing will be done...because it was "done" to a Republican. Anything over the past 4 1/2 years that broke the law, ruined people's lives, divided this country (the list goes on) was "done" by the Democrats. They did nothing to quell months worth of violence and rioting by their "peaceful protesters BLM and Antifa". NOTHING....yet now they want us to be "united". I'll unite when those the broke these laws are all behind bars where they belong...however I guess that will never happen because nothing will be DONE.

    Personally I'm "done" with the Rhino's in office...and many of them are now showing their true colors and trying their hardest to cover their backsides and save their precious power positions. I can count on one hand those that are still staying strong. I'll also never vote again...why bother since elections can be rigged so easily to provide the outcome the party wants. All I can say is that I'm glad I'm old....I don't have to be around much longer to watch the dumpster fire this country is going to be turned into. I'm completely disgusted....and I have never been more angry that I am today. I'm done....

    The behavior at the Capitol may be a set up something more to destroy Trump the Left knows he will not go away in 202. I think the election was a fraud and I think the China Virus was over blown and inaccurately reported I think the Impeachment was a fraud and I think the Russian Investigation was a hoax I think the Biden Family are very criminal and this Administration will be protected by criminals itself. If I was Biden I would put traits of a criminal in charge of each agency starting with the DOJ FBI CIA and every other person whose only goal is to collect revenue. Most of these government official live in mansion and own enormous assets. Biden has an endless list of people to chose from. Big Tech Big corporations MSM anti American groups will all be protected from law and order the nations citizens will end up being terroized for decades to come. Plug in the Life support for America no one is coming to its rescue the Left and the Right officials are going back to work to work on their Personal Assets sheets.     I also denounce the violence yesterday, but I also denounce Republican senators changing their minds about challenging the elections results in several states. If Kelly Loeffler and others believed the election results should be challenged before yesterday, then the reason they thought there was a valid challenge is still there. They let a bad situation influence their constitutional effort/responsibility.

    I presume you've read the article in the current issue of National Review which addresses the allegations of vote fraud. It outlines the real details and I believe they successfully undermine the claims of fraud. Much as that disappoints me and many others, I think it needs to be taken seriously. NR is honest and objective, and it can be trusted as a balanced source. Over the years they've been honest about the progress the Trump Administration has made, as well as their mistakes, which every Administration admittedly makes. And they are equally honest about the damage the Biden Administration will probably do. They therefore have ideological reasons to join in the claims of vote fraud, and can be taken seriously when they conclude otherwise.

    Who really believes it wasn't staged? That many people & very little security at the Capitol..I believe it was a set up..God please help us get through this..
