It’s amazing how much overlap there is in several stories going on right now. For example, while special counsel Robert Mueller’s team continues to investigate alleged but so-far-unsupported ties between the 2016 Trump campaign and “Russia Russia Russia,” Congress is examining alleged and very-much-supported ties between the Clintons and Russia as seen in the unfortunate (for us) Uranium One deal. A key witness in the Uranium One case, an informant named William Douglas Campbell, is represented by the law firm of Joseph diGenova and partner Victoria Toensing, who just made news because of conflicts of interest that kept them from acting as attorneys for President Trump in the Mueller case.
The Uranium One case is pretty complicated, which Democrats are happy about because the harder it is to follow a damaging story, the less likely the public is to follow it, and the less damaging it will be. And this one is damaging not only to the Clintons, whom the Democrats try not to pay much attention to these days, but also to former President Obama, because he never should have signed off on such a sale, in part because it’s GIVING URANIUM TO RUSSIANS, and also because of reports obtained by Campbell of criminal conspiracy on Russia’s part. Obama-worship is alive and well (the idea he suggested of cloning a million Baracks and Michelles might make one think it’s gone to his head a little too much, but I digress), so you can bet anything that damages his legacy will get little media play. That makes Democrats happy, too. Still, we’re smart people out here in flyover country, and it’s not that hard to connect the dots in this important story.
William Campbell, an FBI informant who risked his life undercover in the Russian nuclear industry between 2008 and 2014, helped make the case that it was engaged in criminal activity involving bribery, kickbacks, money laundering and extortion. Several executives from Russia and the United States were sent to prison. As reported by John Solomon and Alison Spann in The Hill, Campbell has now been interviewed in a closed-door session by congressional Republications interested in connections between the Clintons and the sale to Russia of Canadian company Uranium One, which, unbelievably, gave Russia control of 20 percent of the American uranium supply.
Democrats on the House Judiciary, Intelligence and Oversight and Government Reform Committees attacked Campbell in a scathing memo (they love to write scathing memos) for relying on written notes during his testimony. Are they actually so partisan that they would ignore the fact that he now suffers from a brain tumor that might cause temporary memory lapses? The answer to that question is yes.
Anonymous Justice Department officials have tried to discredit him as well, but the FBI asked him to come in and “refresh his testimony,” and he says they seemed quite interested in the relationship between the Clintons and the Uranium One deal. After a gag order by the FBI was lifted (thanks, Victoria Toensing!), he related in his first on-camera (and in shadow) interview that they questioned him extensively about claims made to him by the Russians that they had routed millions of dollars to an American lobbying firm in 2010 and 2011, expecting it to be funneled to the Clinton Global Initiative while major decisions concerning uranium were pending before Hillary’s State Department. They apparently saw her as the key figure in those decisions; as she went their way, the others would follow.
Campbell insists he’s not political at all: not a Democrat, Republican or even independent. “I am a damn American,” he says. I might go on to say he’s an American hero; when you look at what Putin does to people who’ve been outed as spies --- see, here’s overlap with yet another story --- you know this man was up to his neck in some very serious business. And it’s time to take him seriously.
Oh, and in an overlap with yet another story, it’s just been reported that, according to Campbell, Russia was assisting Iran with its nuclear program while Obama was President. Ah, now it makes even more sense that Obama would have approved that sale to Russia. If it helps Iran, he’s in.
Here’s that shocking story:
