SOME REAL JOURNALISTS SAY, "I CAN'T TAKE IT ANY MORE!"
With all the political and racial unrest going on in the country right now, there’s a very different --- and extremely welcome (to me) --- kind of unrest going on at the same time. It’s happening in the media, as “cancel culture” starts to eat its own.
Yesterday, we brought you the story of Bari Weiss, a self-described “centrist” journalist who very publicly left her job as a writer and editor at THE NEW YORK TIMES after finding out what it was like there to try to express an individual, intellectually curious, non-sanctioned thought or even to report a story that didn't advance a leftist, anti-Trump agenda. In case you didn’t see her open resignation letter, here it is at her website. There is still smoke coming off of it.
Weiss justifiably slams media people, particularly at the NYT, for their sense of self-importance. “A new consensus has emerged in the press,” she writes, but perhaps especially at this paper that truth isn’t a process of collective discovery, but an orthodoxy already known to an enlightened few whose job is to inform everyone else.”
Seems to me that it should have been enough that Weiss was upset at Donald Trump’s victory and even cried at her desk when he won. But, no, that wasn’t nearly enough. In fact, they were all too busy sobbing at their own desks to notice her dismay. She soon found out that in the new Era of Trump, all so-called “journalists” were required from that day forward to have a single-minded focus on destroying...HIM.
There were more primary elections Tuesday in Alabama, Maine and Texas. The biggest news came in Alabama, where Jeff Sessions failed in his bid to retake the Senate seat that he gave up to become Trump’s Attorney General. Sessions lost a GOP run-off to former Auburn University football coach Tommy Tuberville by nearly 60-40%. It was a bitterly-fought race in which Trump strongly endorsed Tuberville, since he is still fuming over Sessions recusing himself from the Mueller “Russian Collusion” investigation that dogged his first two years and turned out to be a ginned-up witch hunt that found nothing.
Trump’s endorsement also may have played a role in the Texas House run-off win by his former White House doctor, Ronny Johnson, over a candidate who had the endorsement of the outgoing incumbent.
At this link, Democratic pollster Doug Schoen makes the case that the primary results show Trump regaining momentum while the Democrats remain divided, with “progressive” challengers beating or coming close to beating establishment Democrats.
I agree, but he fails to mention that the big problem with the “progressive” insurgency among the Democrats isn’t just that it’s splitting the Party internally, but that it’s dragging the entire Party so far to the left of the average American voter that they’re starting to resemble less a major political party than a coterie of escaped mental patients.
WAIT, CHINA COVERS UP THE TRUTH?!?
Hold on! So you’re telling me the COVID-19 (Chinese) coronavirus isn’t the only time that China tried to cover up and distort science? You say 121 papers in “peer-reviewed” journals that were credited to hospitals and universities across China, some of which were frequently cited in other studies, now show signs of having actually been cranked out by the same dubious Chinese “paper mill?” And that some used the same photo of cell colonies, sometimes cropped or rotated to appear unique?
Oh, if only there had been any hint before now that China wasn’t trustworthy so we would have known not to outsource all our medicine production to them. This is why we need Joe Biden in charge!

A NEW LOW AT THE WASHINGTON POST
In the Trump era, the Washington Post has devolved from a once-respected journalistic icon to a clownish shadow of its former self, from the unsourced anti-Trump fake news stories to the hyperbolic nonsense dished out in its editorial pages. This has made it extremely difficult for a WaPo writer to set a new low, but congrats to Jonathan Greenberg for managing it with a piece that supposedly lists 12 signs that Trump winning a second term could “lead to fascism.”
The easiest way to counter that would be to point to his first term, which we were told was going to lead to fascism. Yet the only fascists I see, the people physically assaulting (even killing) and brutally censoring anyone who dares to question their political orthodoxy, are on the left and laughably call themselves “anti-fascists.” That’s like the Orkin Man calling himself “pro-bug.”
The sheer level of cluelessness and lack of self-awareness in every one of Greenfield’s 12 steps is stunning. For instance, “Sign #5: With Fox News promoting Trump’s lies as truth, the president controls one of the most powerful propaganda machines ever created.” That’s right: Trump is another Hitler because ONE media outlet actually gives him a fair shake, as opposed to those negligible critical outlets like CNN, MSNBC, NBC, ABC, CBS, PBS, NPR, the New York Times, 99.9% of Hollywood, all the major social media platforms and WaPo itself. Even ESPN now spouts anti-Trump propaganda. It kind of makes “Sign #4: Trump appears to believe he has the power to outlaw speech critical of him…” sound pretty toothless. As I’ve said before many times, if Trump really wants to be a fascist dictator, he’s certainly going about it all wrong.
Another hilarious “step toward fascism” is “Sign #10: Trump has messianic delusions that are supported with religious fervor by millions of his supporters.” I’ve been to Trump rallies. I wonder if Mr. Greenberg ever has been? Trump’s supporters know that he’s famous for his braggadocio, Trump knows they know it, and many of his over-the-top statements that are hysterically branded by the media as “LIES” are actually jokes that draw big laughs from the crowd. Hitler may have been a mesmerizing speaker, but he wasn’t known for his punchlines.
Unfortunately, the left has totally lost its sense of humor. Lord knows they’re incapable of laughing at themselves, and they now think that “political humor” means condescending lectures from Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel, Seth Myers, Samantha Bee, Trevor Noah, John Oliver, etc. etc. It’s no wonder they’ve forgotten what a joke even sounds like.
As for Trump’s supporters having a “messianic fervor” for him, I can’t think of a single Trump supporter I know who believes that he’s “the Lightbringer” who can lower the rising ocean tides with a wave of his arms. Sound familiar? We just like the way that he’s reversing the policies of the false prophet who actually believed that. Most of his followers are Christians, and we don’t place a religious-like faith in politicians and turn them into idols. That’s a Democrat thing.
Well, I could go through all 12 steps of this hilarious hokum, but I’ve already debunked all of this garbage countless times. So if you want to hear the rest, I’ll just refer you to this excellent recap and response by Lisa Carr.
