PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) has occasionally done some good things to prevent animal abuse, but they tend to get buried in the Aegean Stable of craziness they also generate. Their latest campaign falls under the latter category.  PETA has issued a list of suggested new phrases to replace common sayings that might imply cruelty to animals.

For instance, instead of saying, “Beat a dead horse,” we should say, “Feed a fed horse.” Aside from the clunkiness of that, I’m not sure how a dead horse would even feel a beating. They want to replace “Bring home the bacon” with “Bring home the bagels,” which makes no sense because bagels are certainly no substitute for bacon, and no family that brings home bagels would bring home bacon anyway.  There are more at the link, along with the predictable snarky responses.

I thought this might represent the ultimate example of PC people demanding changes of language because they’re offended on behalf of others who haven’t complained, since I didn’t know of any animals who actually care what English phrases people use. But then, a friend of mine with a houseful of parrots told me they all heartily endorsed changing “Kill two birds with one stone” to “Feed two birds with one scone.”

Sen. Orrin Hatch also made it clear that he’ll continue bringing home bacon instead of bagels.

It’s been a week of great tributes to President George H.W. Bush, but this behind-the-scenes story might be the one that most reveals what a fine man he was.

The tragic “end-game” of socialism: Venezuelans can’t even afford burials, so they turned to cremating their loved ones…and now, even cremations are scarce due to a gas shortage. Even if you’re dying to escape socialism, you still can’t escape socialism.

In some places, Americans have been seeing a sight they haven’t seen in a long time: gasoline prices below $2 a gallon.  These links tell you a little about why it’s happening.  Turns out you can drill your way out of a gas shortage.  Sarah Palin and Donald Trump: 1; Barack Obama: 0.

Colorado Democratic State Sen. Daniel Kagan is resigning after female colleagues accused him of using a women’s restroom in the Statehouse multiple times and one filed a sexual harassment complaint.

Hey, wait a minute!  I thought one of the most cherished ideals of today’s “progressive” Democratic Party was the right for anyone to use any bathroom he/she/xir wanted!  Kagan should have just claimed that he feels like a woman inside, then demanded that the women who complained about him resign due to their blatant transphobia.

Sometimes, the pressure on writers and pundits to generate “content” leads them to write and distribute thoughts that they should never even have allowed into their heads.  I think it’s safe to say this is one of those pieces:

As media outlets gleefully parsed the body language of the former Presidents and First Ladies at the Bush funeral to try to spot friction with President Trump, a man who certainly had a rocky relationship with Trump painted a very different picture.

A liberal church in Dedham, Massachusetts, sparked controversy (and not for the first time) for using its Christmas Nativity scene to promote a political agenda.  They placed the Baby Jesus figure inside a cage, and the Three Wise Men behind a border fence with a “Deportation” sign on it.

Naturally, some people are upset because of the apparent blasphemous disrespect for Jesus.  Others are protesting the historical inaccuracy and false analogy (Mary and Joseph weren’t migrants entering Bethlehem illegally, they were there to pay their taxes.)  Still others are upset that it inaccurately depicts our border policies in the distorted way the media promoted in order to slam President Trump.  I can certainly sympathize with all of that.

But I may surprise you by defending the church’s right to do this.  I disagree with it and find it tasteless and repellent, but there’s no question they have a First Amendment right to do it.

Now, I hope the leaders of that church, and all the liberals defending it, will take a similar stand and join me in demanding that conservative Christian pastors also be allowed to express their views on important political issues without fear of reprisal from the government, such as having their tax-exempt status threatened.

Just when you think you have heard it all for the attack on Christmas and Christians...

Prof claims God lacked Virgin Mary's 'consent'

In this time in which we live where everything seems to have gone off the deep end, here's one more item to add to the ludicrous list.
A professor claims the God of the Bible did not have consent from Mary when He impregnated the virgin with the Savior of all mankind ...

A suggestion since you love country music. There is a man who has recorded a wonderful patriotic song entitled, "Oh Say Can You See." His name is Mike Watkins, he is from Tennessee, and the song can be heard on UTube. Oh, and by the way, he is married to my neice. Hope you will listen to it. Thank You. Love your show.

Too bad they have all kinds of laws protecting animals but they won't protect babies in the mother's womb.

When I first read the phrase change recommendations from PETA, all I could do was shake my head, palm to forehead. PETA only shows its ignorance in the recommended phraseology changes. They obviously don't even understand the origins of the phrases they'd like to change, or the meaning. For example, "kill two birds with one stone" means to complete two separate, difficult tasks by taking one action. The proposed replacement doesn't even come close, none of them do.

Thank you so much for bringing this information to everyone's attention. I appreciate all you do. I don't have time to find all this information myself and it is very helpful to me for you to compile it into a easily accessible format.

Thank you again. Keep up the great work.

PETA (Pets eating tasty animals) These people are nuts...I complained to them about the mistreatment of "hunting" dogs in parts of FL (they are fed 2x a week and watered as much; left in their cages in their own filth until Sept thru Dec, when they are used to runDeer out of the woods); Peta did NOTHING. I felt like I was kicking a dead horse. Thought I would kill two birds with one stone by contacting them directly, but it did no good! so I continued to shoot squirrels that got into my bird feeders, while my trusty dog would dispose of them!

Do I have to choose between taking home the bagels or the bacon? Can't I take home both... Oh! I have! I am wondering when the elites will determine coffee is racist? Can you imagine adding creamer will be racist? Next, we'll have racist milk.
I am so relieved Donald John Trump is our President! Now, when can we pull the secrecy around Barack Hussein Obama? Was he, as Clint Eastwood said, "the biggest fraud perpetuated against America?"
A note, my good man, your daughter and you rock!

Why is there no push to eliminate the rapacious IRS? Or, at the very least, folded in to the SSA as a subordinate department?
Why is this out of control agency not publicly criticized for its harassment of middle class and Trump supporters?

Do short-term service dogs grieve over losing a master? Over the years two street dogs have adopted us and bonded strongly and obviously to me within HOURS of first meeting. It is stunning WORSHIP! I'm sure they would have "repented" had I kicked them or shooed them off... but I suspect HW delighted to return Sully's affection. If we love dogs, we do that!

It has been a funny few days hasn't it. I remember how badly the media treated HW Bush and now I have had to listen to them talk about how wonderful he was. It was like going down a rabbit hole. Where up is down and down is up. Most of all, they used it to trash our present Republican President. Who was as gracious to the family as any person could be. And the First Lady showed so much class towards everyone. I watched Hillary show her lack of class, Bill looking scared of Hillary and Obama and Michelle sitting stiff. Only Jimmy Carter acted any where near normal. Bless his heart. That is what comes from being from the South were a person is taught manners. Thank you for your great column, I look for it each day. I appreciate your sense of humor, which we sadly seem to be lacking so much of lately.

My mom told a story about her aunt's husband, who farmed hundreds of acres around Lodi, CA where they had move in the 40's - he built up a thriving business supplying wineries and supermarkets - but he got old and died of a heart attack. His dog got into the truck with him for many years, from when he was a pup, and he was Mr. Schatz' constant companion. After he died, the dog went over to the pickup every morning and howled; they dog was so grief-stricken they had to put him down...and the so-called lady said dogs don't feel grief ? She's obviously overly impressed with her own intelligence; I'd put Sully up against her any day. There are many different types of intelligence; the ability to intuit another creature's feelings is one of them.

What a wonderful story about President G.H.W.Bush and the SS agents son. It shows that a persons parents taught important life lessons. I have an acquaintance that was on the Presidential detail on cold winter night. The First Lady brought out a heavy coat for him to wear. He tried to decline until President Bush told him never to argue with the First Lady. Truly a class act. May the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace and may light perpetual shine upon them.

    Governor Huckabee,
It isn't often that I disagree with you but on this point I do.
You said Ocrazio Cortez was way off when she compared her winning to landing on the moon. Well sir I contend that the loony bird did make a lunar landing. It's quite evident she didn't land on planet earth when she was dropped.
