James Comey Fired

May 10, 2017 |

Democrats who are falsely claiming that preexisting conditions will no longer be covered under Republican health care reform had better pray that whiplash isn’t a preexisting condition, since some of them are going to suffer it after stopping on a dime and doing a snap about-face on their demands that FBI Director James Comey be fired.

All it took was two words from President Trump (“You’re fired”) to make his critics go from screaming for Comey's head to screaming for a special prosecutor to look into this outrageous – even treasonous! – abuse of presidential power in firing him. It was even called a “coup” (odd, since that involves the overthrow of a legitimately elected leader, not the firing of a subordinate by a legitimately elected leader). According to Chris Matthews, there was a “whiff of fascism” in the firing.

I admit, it was kind of fun seeing Democrats struggle to explain why they were so outraged over getting what they’ve wanted for so long. Hillary Clinton can’t even place an order at the Jack in the Box drive-thru without blaming her election loss on James Comey. On Fox News, Tucker Carlson had to struggle like an avian dentist pulling hen’s teeth to get a Democratic spokesman to explain how he could be simultaneously happy and mad. The best the guy could manage was to darkly claim that while Comey deserved firing, the “timing was suspicious” because of the ongoing investigation of alleged Russian ties to the Trump campaign.

But if that’s his only beef, then Comey likely could’ve been fired a year from now and the timing would still be suspicious, since this Russian investigation is dragging on with no end in sight and hampering the Administration from getting on with important work, with nothing of substance to show for it. FBI insiders have been complaining that it’s one of several investigations Comey seemed to be slow-walking that should have wrapped up long ago. And news flash to Democrats: most Americans are satisfied that Hillary Clinton lost because she was Hillary Clinton, not because Boris and Natasha stuffed the ballot boxes in Oshkosh, by gosh.

As for the Democrats’ argument that if Comey deserved to be fired, then Obama Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates and Attorney General Loretta Lynch would have recommended it and Obama would have fired him, I’d reply: Are you kidding me? I could name plenty of Obama officials who deserved to be fired, but try to name any who were. If you were loyal to Obama, you could ship guns to Mexican gangsters, let Americans die on your watch and lie about it, abuse the IRS to target non-profit groups for their political beliefs, “lose” records you’re required by federal law to archive, spy on reporters, let veterans die on health care waiting lists and cover it up, drag the Little Sisters of the Poor into federal court to force them to pay for contraceptives, and even be found in contempt of Congress and still keep your job. Obama appointees may have been the only American workers who had true job security during the Obama years. That’s another reason why Americans replaced him with a man famous for saying, “You’re fired.”

President Trump made it clear that he was firing Comey on the recommendation of Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who was praised for his integrity by Chuck Schumer before his 94-6 Senate confirmation vote, less than a month ago (which made Sen. Schumer’s calling for a special prosecutor to investigate the firing extra whiplash-inducing).

Rosenstein wrote a letter listing the many reasons why Comey had lost the trust of Americans in both parties, stretching from his press conference last summer that seemed to indict Hillary while declining to indict her, to just last week, when he testified before Congress that Hillary aide Huma Abedin had forwarded “hundreds or thousands” of government emails, some classified, to her husband Anthony Weiner’s unsecured, and probably unhygienic, laptop for printing. Turns out it was actually only a handful, and they weren’t classified until after the fact. Yet Comey insisted he has “no regrets.”

The public might not have paid much attention to Comey’s performance at that hearing, but it’s been reverberating through the hallways at the FBI like the “time’s up” gong on “The Gong Show.” (Read Rosenstein’s entire letter at this link:

Trump said in a statement, “The FBI is one of our Nation’s most cherished and respected institutions, and today will mark a new beginning for our crown jewel of law enforcement.” And he’s right. A recent Fox News poll found that 80% of the public trust the FBI. Meanwhile, a poll by the Hill newspaper found that only 17% of the public had a favorable view of Comey (among Democrats, who claim to be so upset by his firing, his favorable rating was 12%). Americans still respect the FBI, they just have more trust in Fox Mulder than in James Comey.

So most Americans thought Comey needed to go. I’ve thought so ever since that first Hillary press conference – and believe it or not, not because he let her off the hook, but because he so wildly overstepped his powers in doing so. He was the head of an inquiry (not even a formal investigation with subpoena powers). His job was solely to gather facts. Yet he took it upon himself to interpret the law like a judge and decide what a prosecutor and grand jury would do with those facts. He not only violated the rules of his agency, he sent a message to all Americans that if you are powerful and well-connected, you can get away with things the rest of never could. Hillary might think that the later, election-eve reopening of her case was what did her in, but I’d argue that her fate was sealed when Comey let her skate the first time. That cemented the reputation she already had as a powerful insider who thought the rules don’t apply to her. She went from merely benefiting from the double standard to being the public face of it, and just at a moment when struggling Americans were fed up to the gills with smug, unfair elitism.

Comey also symbolized a wider problem that we’ve seen with entrenched federal employees stalling, leaking and otherwise trying to undermine the new Administration. I’ve read reports of how many in Washington wanted Comey to go but were too cowed to say so because he knew all their FBI file secrets. He was described as the most powerful man in Washington. It was said that like J. Edgar Hoover, he could keep the job as long as he wanted because nobody would dare fire him. Tucker Carlson even revealed that political figures who came on his show had no fear of bashing the President on TV, but said during commercial breaks that they were too afraid to criticize Comey publicly.

Maybe it took a Trump, who’s so used to seeing scurrilous things about him in the media (like that discredited “Russia dossier”) that he doesn’t care what might be said about him, he’s going to do what he thinks needs to be done. It did need to be done, and better late than never. In the United States, the people we voters send to Washington to represent us should never have to cower before the superior powers of unelected, unaccountable bureaucrats.

Your piece was impeccably written and well worth reading. In addition I would like to say that your daughter Sarah is doing a fabulous job as acting press secretary. She is a joy to listen to and watch. She owns the room.

"His job was solely to gather facts. Yet he took it upon himself to interpret the law like a judge and decide what a prosecutor and grand jury would do with those facts." You were right on the nail here. He said she didn't intend to commit a crime. Well I didn't intend to roll through that stop sign but I still got a ticket! Intent is never about breaking the law. She claimed she didn't know (which later was revealed that she HAD to know due to the evidence) That's not an excuse either, ignorance of the law is no excuse. She was a lawyer, she knew it was illegal.

Good job, President Trump for draining the swamp. Any appointee that was around during the Obama Administration needs to go. Sarah Huckabee Sanders is showing great restraint while doing an excellent job of handling the biased media. Keep up the great work!

After Comey's performance this past year I lost all confidence in the FBI. It struck me as an organization that goes everywhere the wind blows politically. It will take some time before I have any more faith in the FBI. Also, I've lost faith in Congress. They don't ask any more for what's best for the country, they ask what's best for me.

I agree with President Trump's decision to remove James Comey from his position. I don't believe that the timing matters, as our President would be harshly criticized by the left anyway. I continually shake my head at the absurdity of the condemnations, by the left, aimed at our President.

Thank you, Governor, for expressing your opinion so forthrightly. I was stunned, when Mr. Comey put forth his statement on Hillary last summer. I was thankful that she was revealed to the Nation, so to speak. But amazed by Mr.Comey's duplicity in taking upon himself to be judge and jury in his declaration. On another subject, could you possibly clarify if Comey was in charge of the FBI involvement in the January 26, 2016 action in Oregon that resulted in the assassination of Robert Lavoy Finicum ? Mr Finicum was a Constitutional Patriot. His friends the Bundy's and Hammond's are in prison still, for fighting for their rights as ranchers. Could you prompt some justice for these folks, whose lands and natural resources were coveted by greedy people? Also, the reporter Pete Santilli, who only reported the news, is still in prison, as well. Thank you. You can follow these issues on Facebook.

Mr. Huckabee.....First, I would like to say that I admire you very much. I agree whole heartedly with your article, and the reasoning behind the firing of Mr. Comey. I could never understand, and still don't, why there have been no prosecutions coming from all the past investigations and hearings. I am referring to a year ago, with the email investigations of Hillary Clinton, and since that time with the leaks that have been made public in regards to Gen. Flynn. As I understood, from Mr. Comey's own words, these were cause for prosecution.....so, why wasn't anyone ever prosecuted? As I see it, the firing of Mr. Comey at this particular time, is giving ammunition to the democrats to say it is all a coverup to the Russian interference allegations by President Trump. So, as far as timing, I think he should have been fired much sooner than now. It amazes me that Hillary Clinton is still saying she would have won the election, had it not been for Comey's reopening the investigation into the emails. She is delusional.....she just can't accept the fact that we didn't want her in the White House!!!! I never, ever would have voted for her.....and I never, ever would have voted for democratic socialist Bernie Sanders! Our country was in need of BIG CHANGE.....and we NEED a president like Donald Trump! We need lots of changes in our government! I want to see everyone voted out who no longer has the best interests of our country in mind. Many powerful democrats are only out to destroy Trump's presidency at any cost, and this certainly is not in the best interest of the american people. I intend to do my part in the 2018 election, to help see to it these people do not retain their seat in my state of Michigan. Thankyou Mr. Huckabee, for all you have done in your support of our President! I am proud to say I voted for him, and I pray he has the strength and stamina necessary to fight against his many adversarys.....so he can do the best job possible as our President.

I what's the prize Trump didn't fire him after he was inaugurated. I believe it was his intent to draw connection to the sitting employees and hopes that he could work with them. That apparently was not the case and it was better he go now then later. I will say the way it was done so very trumpish was very demeaning. However I suspect there are reasons why it was best to not be allowed back in his office. This is not the neighborhood corporate office. This is United States government. Thank you Mike for a very concise analysis.

President Trump has received a gift. Now is the time to go after Hillary. Re-open the investigations. He can put the liberals on defense and control the narrative. Do it now before hiring a replacement.

With the Republicans in the White House, the senate, and congress the Republicans have been ineffective because they don't control the narrative. Control the narrative. I pray that he does it now.

The abyss of the government between the American patriots is forever widing. The corruption coverups, fake news and rhino politicans posturing, some of whom can not even put a cohesive sentence together, they are so bias and ignorant, they sickens the country. It is time these self serving idiots clean up their acts and lead. Indeed, it is time to truly drain the swamp.

You said it all very well and left nothing material to add. Excellent review!

    Two Questions:
    1. Why do Republicans allow the "Russian Influence" story to continually be framed by Democrats as a story of collusion when the facts (Wikipedia) that were revealed have never been in dispute?
    2. Since when has it become a problem that FACTS can be revealed?! If Russia actually did influence the election by releasing such damning FACTS about HRC, we should be thanking them, not rattling our sabres in frustration that the truth was revealed.

  • Rhonda Shelton

I believe Comey should have been gone a long time ago. It's not surprising that the Democrats flip flop on wanting Comey gone. It's what they do. Whatever advances their ideas. On another note when it comes to healthcare I don't believe that individual states should be able to opt out of pre-existing conditions. That is a bit scary. Unless I am understanding it wrong. I will be watching that closely.

Governor, I wish the Administration would have stuck with the story that Rosenstien's letter was the catalyst for firing Comey. But later today they told us President Trump had wanted to fire him from the start. I don't care whose idea it was, but the liberals do & they'll be using it to pound the President. I live in this little town in IL and Last July I was stunned after Comeys news conference. If I'd behaved the way he claimed she did, I'm sure I'd be doing some time. I pondered that situation a lot and listened to all the pundits. Personally I'm thankful for the truth we learned about Hillary from him. Would we have ever known how irresponsible she was if not for his usurping the AG 's authority? In my simple mind I see Hillary as being responsible for all that occurred since that news conference....with Bill and Loretta Lynch having some copability too. Why would Lynch or the Assistant AG not fire Comey back then? All I can figure is that people in Government and politics make no sense! I don't think we know the ending to Comeys firing yet. I think there will be more to follow. Surely the crying liberals aren't going to stop the innuendos of Russian collusion or some hidden reason for the firing.

In my honest opinion it's always better late than never and I'm personally very proud to have a President that doesn't adhere to the status quo that has gone amuck for far too long in this nation President Trump is the shot in the rear end that this nation has needed and hungered for, for many, many years now, and my best advice to the leftists and whomever else is to just take a spoon full of sugar to help the medicine go down.

I believe President Trump was correct in firing Mr. Comey. I wasn't happy about he handled the situation over the summer when AG Lynch deferred to his opinion as to whether HRC should have been indicted. He was not a prosecutor, but an investigator. If Lynch felt she could not make the decision (after she met with Bill Clinton on the plane) then her Assistant AG should have made the decision. Trump was not president and could not fire him then. I watched his testimony before the Senate committee last week and after that I really felt he needed to be replaced for a whole host of reasons. The Dems are the biggest hypocrites ever with their bashing Trump for firing Comey after they had spent so much time calling for his firing.

This is EXACTLY the crap the people are sick to death of! The minute Comey gave the case against Killory, then turns around and said no reasonable states attorney would prosecute her, not only did I know the whole system was broke as could be, and this guy saying this garbage needed to be fired-ASAP. The left has lost its mind- plain and simple. It's hard to sit there and listen to the absolute ignorance, arrogance, and total disregard they show for the people they were elected to serve-and flaunt it every single day- with such utter contempt for the American people- it's just gross. And adding insult to injury, they think we forget the crap they've pulled (like Comey), as if we are dense

He became judge and jury instead of concentrating on collecting facts for the judge and jury!!! The Democrats are a disgrace. They remind me of all the brainwashed lefty college students who are rude, disrespectful, and childish brats. I'm ashamed of the Democrats of today. Comey violated his position and destroyed his reputation in July 2016 when he decided to act as the prosecutor and deny charging Hillary Clinton. Obama should have fired Comey right then and there IF he were an honest and just president.

  • Allen Bishop

    05/10/2017 10:50 PM

Comey has ties to the Clinton's going back to Arkansas. He testified to knowing about the surveillance starting in June 2016, but did not inform the Senate and GOP members until March 2017. The only reason why the Democrats (use this term loosely, as they no longer represent American workers), didn't have his head is due to him carrying the ball on the Russian storyline that has been put together by Mainstream Media and the Globalists. The only collusion was when Obama/Clinton sold uranium to Russia via Canada, or the money laundering by Obama being shipped to his Muslim buddies, or the Saudi Oil money lining the pockets of Democrats everywhere. Notice how they all reversed their stances on open borders, immigration, open trade, and even the definition of marriage? Student body left, and bet there is billions of oil money flowing into them and other World Leaders in Europe to allow this infestation of Islam. We need more morally driven leaders like you. I wish you were in the Trump cabinet in some major role of setting this country back on the right track!

Why has no Republican come out and challenged the Democrats on this being like Watergate. In what parallel universe is the idea a president would authorize a loosening of intelligence reports, weaponizing the intelligence agencies and spying on his opponents. Did it ever occur to Republican leaders that Obama and the Democrats could have set this Russian meme not only to taint Trump but to deflect from the real scandal they were spying on huge swathes of people. Why are we allowing them to set the agenda. Turn it back on them. Who is using the power of govt to control and corrupt? So far it isn't Trump. His successor needs to be held accountable and the first thing is to put the Left on defensive while we pursue the real scandal that I believe could be the worst in our lifetime. Republicans get to it. Stop standing around amd talking endlessly about the nonexistent Russia trap.

You're right in that it took somebody like a Trump...wait, there is nobody else like The Donald...to get Comey out. Now I'm looking forward to the prince and princess of globalism, Jered and Ivanka, to be removed from the sphere of influence. All things are possible with God.

This firing was long overdue. The president has to get rid of all the Obummer population in our government. They only owe their alliegence to the former president. The president needs people he trusts whose only alliegence is to him. I also believe you would be a tremdous asset to the president if you were in his cabinet. The democrats are very annoying and I am surprised to see how unAmerica, dramatic, and the amount of false exaggerated statements they can come up with. I'm truly frightened to think one day the liberals will take over the White House. I also can't believe they don't see Sharia Law for what it is. You would have thought the Dems would have been elated to see Comey gone. I am!

  • Shelly Brown

    Dear Governor,

I completely agree with you on this. I am sick and tired of all the nonsense being dished out by the Democrats. I appreciate you being the voice for those of us who see what is going on in our government and with our media. There is so much hypocrisy in the Democratic Party. Hillary is still blaming everyone else, especially Comey, for her loss. She needs to look in the mirror. It will be interesting to see what she now says about Comey's involuntary departure.

  • Ginger Cash

    05/10/2017 09:56 PM

I agree with everything you've said. We the People are so fed up with business as usual in politics. If the People in Washington D.C. don't get the message that we don't care about their Party, we don't care what agenda they have, then they are missing the message. Pass this on, please, the message is OUR AGENDA or get out. It is OUR COUNTRY. Politicians represent We the People, they are not there for themselves, they are there for us. If they cannot or will not do their jobs, then we can & will get rid of them. We are sick of the pedophiles not being arrested, we are fed up with illegal immigrants being given a free ride on our dime, we are fed up with the Alphabet Agencies spying on everyone in the False excuse of National Security, we are no longer willing to have the Deep State/Shadow Government/Alphabet Agencies running the show. This is our Country they do not have our permission to do anything behind our back & without our permission. The elite have lied, stolen, raped & pillaged us for far too long. We are not going to tolerate it any more. The Democrats have all been bought off by George Soros & The NWO Group & we are not interested in any of their plans for us or the rest of the World. They are Souless Creatures and we want them behind bars or dead, we don't care which. They have had years to do the right thing and continue to evil at every opportunity, so they must go. Also the entire Planet is expecting full Disclosure about the various Secret Space Programs and the Aliens and the Technologies that currently exist. Not some of them, but All of them. We are ready to have our real lives put back in our hands, We are tired of being poisoned by the Chemtrails. Make no mistake we know that the Elite are trying to kill us off. There is a large percentage of people that are awake and aware of the truth, there are more becoming aware by the moment. The Elite will not be safe for much longer. When we reach the tipping point it could get very ugly on this Planet. There are more of us than there are of them. When you push people into a corner they will fight back. This last election was a non violent push back. It is time for total transparency of all government. The lies and deception will no longer work. There is no place to hide, secrecy does not work any more. Excuses and misdirection does not work. It is time to get on board with We the People and work with them and for them rather than against them. We decide what's good for us, not some wealthy fat cat who has no idea about the needs of others. This is the time of service to others, not service to self.
