Roger L. Simon on Joe Biden's dilemma: he'd normally agree with Trump on a lot of things, but he has to go NeverTrump because his party has gone insane.

“The Experts Speak!” Thanks to Prof. Glenn Reynolds of Instapundit for digging this out of the archives. From the L.A. Times in 2017, a story headlined, “If Trump thinks he can get more than 3% economic growth, he’s dreaming.” It includes condescending dismissals of Trump’s economic goals from a range of “experts” across the political spectrum, offering pearls of wisdom such as this:
"High rates of growth, and the productivity that drives it, are likely distant memories from a bygone era."
Oh, you mean like your credibility?

President Trump spoke to the National Rifle Association in Indiana Friday, and his speech made big news when he announced that he was issuing an executive order rescinding Obama’s signature on the UN Arms Trade Treaty. Obama sent it to the Senate in his final days in office. The Senate hasn't yet ratified it, and Trump’s order pulls it from the process.
Trump called the treaty “badly misguided” and said, “Under my Administration, we will never surrender American sovereignty to anyone. We will never allow foreign bureaucrats to trample on your Second Amendment freedom… By taking these actions, we are reaffirming that America’s liberty is sacred and that American citizens live by American laws, not the laws of foreign countries.”
I can only imagine how hysterical the left will be, since Trump managed to push two of their hot buttons at once by blocking gun control laws and putting America ahead of the UN. As the icing on the cake, he undid yet another piece of Obama’s legacy. The trifecta of trolling!

There was an alarming moment at the NRA speech when a man in the crowd threw a cell phone onto the stage as Trump was walking to the lectern. The Secret Service quickly removed and arrested the man. They say he was drunk, and they’re investigating whether he intended to harm the President. Trump went on with the speech, and it’s unclear if he even noticed the incident.
Two observations:
1. Many are questioning why the Secret Service allowed the cell phone to remain on stage near Trump instead of immediately removing it, since it could have been an explosive device. Sounds as if the recent security lapse at Mar-a-Lago wasn’t followed by enough reprimands, retraining and demotions.
2. Note that the man was grabbed by the Secret Service and removed unharmed. If NRA members and their gatherings really were anything like the way they are depicted in the media, he would have been carried out looking like a Swiss cheese.

Joe Biden was given a full hour on “The View” to make his case for the White House, and despite the ladies practically rolling out a plush red carpet festooned with rose petals and daisies, it was not smooth sailing.
One thing that sent Republicans’ jaws dropping to the floorboards was Joe’s claim that what he and Obama agree they are most proud of was that there was “not one single whisper of scandal” during their Administration. Reality check: the fact that much of the media were too frightened or loooove-struck to report on Obama’s scandals doesn't mean there weren’t any. Several commentators took the trouble of compiling lists for Joe’s edification, such as Ben Marquis at Conservative Tribune

It’s worth noting that the biggest scandal of the Obama Administration – and possibly, in US political history – may only now be starting to come to light with the investigation of the politicizing and weaponizing of US intelligence agencies to spy on and undermine an opposing candidate and later, his Presidency.
Also, I notice one scandal not mentioned in the article was Obama being caught on a hot mic telling a Russian official to assure Putin that he could be more flexible after he was reelected.
Of course, that would only count if you consider “colluding with Russia” to be a scandal. And who would possibly make a federal case out of that?

I would think that by scheduling his first big media appearance as a candidate on a female-centric show, Biden was signaling that he wanted to get his “gropey Joe” problem behind him. But it was shocking to see how ill-prepared he was to deal with questions he must’ve known he would be asked. Some critics questioned how he would deal with Vladimir Putin when he couldn’t even give a coherent answer to a predictable puffball inquiry from the fawning ladies of “The View”?

It's also becoming clear that as avuncular as the current “Uncle Joe” persona may seem, progressives never forgive or forget any past transgression. Even Anita Hill isn’t willing to accept his “regrets” for his treatment of her during the Clarence Thomas hearings 28 years ago.
This is the political world today, Joe. Everyone may claim to love you until the moment you announce you're running, and then you’d better have a dog if you want a friend.
