We’re on the verge of some huge revelations about what was really going on within the intelligence community concerning the Steele dossier and the investigation of Trump. For now, have confidence that we’ll be on the facts as they roll out.

For now, recall that one “clue” from just the other day was that U.S. Attorney John Durham, appointed by Attorney General Bill Barr to investigate the beginnings of the FBI “Trump/Russia” probe, needs to look at the emails exchanged between then-FBI Director James Comey and CIA Director John Brennan in December of 2016. These reportedly discussed how the (unverified) information in the dossier might be used during the presidential transition.

Something tells me Durham was already well aware of these emails.

With gratitude,

There were nearly 100,000 apprehensions of illegal border crossers in April alone, and we’re on track to hit 863,000 in the current fiscal year.  And those are just the ones who caught, not the ones who get in.  Since 2010, the average number has been between 300,000 and 500,000 a year. Yet most Americans have no idea just how bad the illegal immigration problem is.

A new Harvard/Harris Poll found that when Americans were asked how many illegal aliens are arriving at the U.S.-Mexico border, only about 13% guessed correctly.  That’s about two out of 15 people.  Meanwhile, over three-quarters of Americans estimated illegal immigration levels as vastly lower than they really are.

Even 35% of Republicans, conservatives and Trump voters estimated that only between 10,000 and 100,000 illegal aliens get in per year.  Interestingly, when told that the real number was as high as 100,000 a month, the number of respondents who agreed with Trump that it’s an emergency and we need to build a border wall jumped to a majority of 52 percent.

Why are people so misinformed about such an important issue?  Maybe because they get their news from such “trusted sources” as the New York Times, whose editors spent the past year smugly assuring readers that Trump is a racist liar and there is no “crisis” at the border…until a few weeks ago, when they finally admitted that Trump is right, there is.  Wonder how long it will take them to admit that Trump was right when he accused them of publishing fake news?

President Trump continues to reshape the judiciary

By Mike Huckabee

President Trump continues to reshape the judiciary, even the notoriously liberal 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco.  Yesterday, his pick to fill a slot on that court, California lawyer Kenneth Lee, was confirmed by the Senate on a party-line vote over the objections of California Senators Dianne Feinstein and Kamala Harris.

During the hearings, Lee was pressed on some opinions he’d expressed on gays and women in cases from the mid-1990s, but he said he is now embarrassed by those positions and has matured since then.  It would take a pretty ossified mind not to change at all in over 20 years.  But that wasn’t good enough for the liberal Senators, who blasted him for thinking things over 20 years ago that they now call “shocking” and “far outside the legal mainstream.”

If I wanted to be mean, I could point out that as recently as three years ago, Kamala Harris was the Attorney General of California and under fire for fighting reforms to reduce prison overcrowding.  Her office even tried to keep an inmate who was proven innocent from being released due to a paperwork technicality.  Now, she’s running for President as a far-left “progressive” prison reformer and wants us to believe that’s all ancient history and she was just dealing with the system as it existed way back in the dark ages of 2015.

I might also point out how hilarious it is to block a nominee from joining the 9th Circuit Court on grounds that he’s “far outside the legal mainstream.”  Isn’t that a qualification for the most-overturned appeals court in America?  I guess it only counts if you’re far outside and to the left.

DeBlasio is in

By Mike Huckabee

Yet another Democratic Presidential hopeful has hopped aboard the off-their-trolley.  It’s official: New York Mayor Bill DeBlasio wants to do for all America what he’s done for New York City.  Just imagine, Cedar Rapids, Waco and Memphis: you, too, could someday have crushing tax rates and urine-soaked subways full of homeless people.

Mark Cuban considers presidential race

By Mike Huckabee

And will there be yet another Presidential candidate joining the overflowing field for 2020?  Billionaire entrepreneur Mark Cuban is thinking of jumping in because he says none of the Democrats so far can win.  He says Americans voted for Trump because he’s a businessman, and all of the Democrats so far are politicians, “the least trusted of all professions,” and they’re pushing far-left policies that they know can’t pass because they want attention (he calls those proposals “headline porn.”)  He also says that Bernie and AOC are just using “socialism” as a marketing term to build their followings.

Cuban said it’s unlikely he’ll run, but if he does, it will be as an Independent.  I’d say that after that  paragraph above, it would have to be.

“If It Weren’t For Double Standards…” Dept

By Mike Huckabee

“If It Weren’t For Double Standards…” Dept:  When President Trump yanked the White House press pass of one CNN reporter who was rude, abusive, argumentative and refused to respect the rules, the news media rallied around to denounce it as an attack on the very foundation of a free press in America.

When Sen. Elizabeth Warren refused an invitation from Fox News to appear in a townhall by ranting that the network is a “hate-for-profit racket” that pushes lies, bigotry and racism, and started a petition to urge advertisers to boycott Fox News and drive them out of business, the reaction from other news media outlets was…

What’s that I hear?  I think it’s crickets chirping.

At least Brit Hume of Fox News was willing to stand up and point this out for what it is: political demagoguery that involves demonizing people who hold different views and trying to silence news outlets you don't like.  As I said yesterday, I don’t need to watch her in a townhall.  Her reaction to being invited was enough to convince me that she should never - NEVER - be allowed anywhere near the levers of government power.

The Crazy Times

By Mike Huckabee

In case you hadn’t noticed, we are officially living in the Crazy Times.  Latest proof: two Long Island University athletic programs are being merged, and as part of the change, LIU Brooklyn is being forced to change the team mascot it’s had since 1935.  The team is the Blackbirds, and the mascot wears a blackbird costume.  Officials claim this is somehow racist and offensive.

As the story at the link notes, a lot of alumni are upset about the change, but it’s virtually impossible to find anyone other than overly-PC school bureaucrats who thinks that a blackbird is racist. That’s because blackbirds aren’t a concocted racist stereotype.  They’re actual animals.  They’re birds that happen to be black in color.  Simply referring to or depicting one is not racist, or else they’d be playing “Blackbird” by the Beatles at Klan rallies.

What’s next?  Will seafood restaurants be accused of racism if their daily special is whitefish? I guess I’d better shut up before I give them something else to be offended by.

Laura Ainsworth answers reader Jim on our FBI/special counsel reporting

By Mike Huckabee

Last week’s stories generated so many letters that it’s been challenging to go through them all. But my staff writer Laura Ainsworth wanted to take time to personally answer this one from Jim, because he is skeptical of our reports on the intelligence community. Jim also believes Trump needs to turn over his tax returns and, I’m guessing, whatever Congress wants, so they can dig deep and find whatever-it-is he is hiding. (Consider Laura's response an answer to reader Gene as well, who doubts our sources and used the term “hot air” for what he considered a non-story.)

First, here’s the letter from Jim:

When the reports are published [of FBI abuse of the FISA process] please share them here so we can all read. Until then it didn’t happen and if it does come out I’m happy to consider what they say and to ask that justice be done.

By that token you should be happy to see and review the entire Mueller report and President Trump’s tax returns and to allow all those subpoenaed to testify.

See the big difference here is I am very willing to see all (factual) information and prosecute accordingly even it makes my people look bad or your people look good.

Notice you don’t see me calling for the release of this to be blocked whereas you do for your “team”

It is not that you voted for Trump that fundamentally makes you and like-minded people dangerous for the country it is that you fundamentally want, for the protection of your guy, to remove aspects of the balance of power.

And here is the real bombshell. What you are fighting for would also give Democrats unchecked power the next time they are in office. I DON’T WANT THAT but you seem to be fine with that which is strange.

OR you only want it JUST for your guy which is flat out undemocratic?

So answer this simple question - are you for eventually giving unprecedented power to the Democrats or for just limiting that power to just the Republicans?

From Laura:

Jim, I don’t think you understand. You really have it so wrong that it’s hard to know where to start. Gov. Huckabee and his crew are not partisan hacks and want the truth to come out, whatever it turns out to be. If there is any “big difference,” it is that Democrats (and even some anti-Trump Republicans) seem to want the investigation of Trump to continue virtually WITHOUT END, and we think that if Robert Mueller and his team of prosecutors could possibly have made a case (even on obstruction), they would have by now. Trump won the election, he is President, and there are some really pivotal things going on in the world and inside our country right now that need his undivided attention.

Democrats in Congress will NEVER let this go. As I see it, they're the ones who don't care about "balance of power," because they and their constituents hate the person in the White House so much that they will do whatever is necessary to extricate him. The call to hold AG Barr in contempt of Congress is ludicrous; he has been much more forthcoming than he was required to be; all but a miniscule portion of the unredacted Mueller report is available to them right now, and at this writing they haven’t even looked at it. Grand jury testimony is, by law, supposed to remain sealed, and for good reason. The change of rules to use staff attorneys to interrogate Barr was thrown in at the last minute to make their “witch hunt” (and it clearly is one) look as much like an impeachment as possible, when after almost two years no case can be made for a conspiracy with a foreign power (at least on Trump’s part). In this game of chess, their strategy is transparent, as It was inevitably going to go in one of two ways: either they would move a square and get an “inquisition” of Barr on TV, or they would move another square and vote to find him in contempt.

Trump did nothing to impede Mueller in any way. (It wouldn’t be “obstruction” unless Mueller had actually been fired or otherwise interfered with.) Congress doesn’t need more testimony from Trump’s people; that's been exhausted. Recall that Donald Trump, Jr., has already testified for the special counsel. The President even had his own attorney testify for Mueller's team for almost 30 hours. Talk about “unprecedented.”

The truth is that the very day Trump was elected President, Democrats (in their shock) decided to pursue impeachment, and ever since, they’ve been looking for something --- anything they can find --- with which to do it.  This will not stop.  And they are the ones who don't care what it does to the Constitution.  Since when is it the LEFT that cares about the Constitution?

Most of what we report here is deliberately ignored by major media, except for FOX News and some conservative sites (or in outstanding opinion columns carried by more mainstream sites). We take care in our reporting and consider our sources to be top-notch. Unlike CNN and MSNBC and other major news sources that have made mistake after mistake and mixed hard-news “journalism” with vitriolic opinion to the point where there’s no longer any perceivable difference, we have NEVER had to retract ANYTHING of significance from any story we have written. We fully expect the truth of what we've been reporting to be confirmed in spades in the coming weeks and months.

If we are shown to be wrong, we will be the first to issue an apology and correction. On the other hand, if those anti-Trump sites are wrong, we won’t be holding our breath for apologies and corrections from them. They typically don't admit they’re wrong; they just “move on.”

A few more things, Jim: First (and in answer to your final question), we see the Democrats as already DOING the things you accuse Republicans of setting the stage for; namely, trying to take unchecked, “unprecedented” power and turning their backs on evidence being destroyed or hidden (by Hillary and, it certainly appears, some in the FBI). Second, this is an opinion site, and if we think wrongdoing has occurred, we are going to say so. Third, again, we stand by our sources and our own research. And, last, when we finally get the definitive report on FISA abuse by the FBI, yes, we will gladly share it.

If after all this I still haven't convinced you that you have a few things backwards, please watch the most recent episode (Sunday, May 12) of FOX News' "Life, Liberty & Levin," ALL THE WAY THROUGH TO THE LAST SENTENCE.  If you really do want the full picture, you'll be glad you did.
