In yesterday’s evening edition of my newsletter, I featured a particularly astute letter as “Reader Comment of the Day.” Today, because of something that has since made news, I’d like to look at the same letter in a brand new context. In just a matter of hours, it’s become even more timely. First, here’s the letter...

From Scott:

Russia may have lost the Cold War, but they are winning the PRAVDA war. It seems that for the price of a Baltic Cruise, Russia has sown years of discord within the US political system. Fantasies, lies and misinformation fed to voracious Trump haters within the DNC, biased Intelligence agencies and unhinged, corrupt media companies have caused mass division in our Democratic Republic. Putin has gotten a great return on his investment and the left doesn't even see their complicity.

And here’s the answer I gave him yesterday:

You're right, Scott. (Putin must be falling off his horse laughing.) One thing I'd add is that after investing some additional $$$, including a cool half-a-million paid personally to Bill Clinton for a couple of speeches, he ended up with 20 percent of America's uranium supply as well. All in all, Putin must consider that money VERY well spent. Thanks for writing!

As you see, Scott sent us a great comment. But it offers even more food for thought now that Jared Kushner, husband to Ivanka Trump and the President’s son-in-law, has taken some major heat for what he said about the Mueller report and Russian interference in an interview with Brian Bennett of TIME magazine.

Biden to announce

By Mike Huckabee

Joe Biden delayed his Presidential announcement, and there were rumors he might be having second thoughts.  But he’s now reportedly planning to jump in with a video release on Thursday (maybe he was just waiting for a spot to clear in the overcrowded kiddie pool.)

https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/440205-biden-to-launch-campaign-on-thursday

Polls (which mean nothing at this point, other than for fun) show that in the jam-packed field of Democrats, Biden would be the frontrunner with 27%, followed by Bernie Sanders with 20%.  If either were elected, upon taking office, Biden would be 78 and Sanders would be 79.

The Democrats’ argument for voting for them: America needs new blood.  Unfortunately, so do their top candidates.  Then again, when you’re pushing “progressive” policies that have been tried unsuccessfully since about 1917, it all makes sense.

49 years of lectures

By Mike Huckabee

Sunday was not only Earth Day, it was the 49th annual Earth Day.  That gave researchers an excuse to dig up some inconvenient truths, like nearly a half-century of failed apocalyptic climate predictions.  And if you’re worried because Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said we were all going to die in 12 years, then imagine how scary it must’ve been on the first Earth Day, 49 years ago, when basically the same message of imminent doom was presented in a far more trusted voice, that of Walter Cronkite.

https://www.westernjournal.com/ct/nothing-changed-49-years-ago-cbs-pushed-message-act-die-earth-day/

Speaking of the half-century of lectures we’ve gotten from the left about the environment, we seldom hear that the air and water in the US are actually far cleaner than they were back then.  Well, there are some places that still have serious pollution problems.  And a new study reveals which city has the worst smog (go ahead, guess; you’ll probably be right).

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2019/04/24/air-pollution-smog-soot-worst-california/3551734002/

In fact, seven out of the top 10 smoggiest cities are in the state with the most “progressive” leftist government in America.  But it’s only because of the weather and the topography...and the wildfires, which of course have nothing to do with how the state is run. Also the overpopulation and heavily congested highways that cause traffic jams (again, nothing the government could do about that.)

Those of us who are old enough to remember the first Earth Day also remember the fall of the USSR, and how we discovered that despite once being the same country, capitalist West Germany was clean and prosperous, while communist East Germany was an impoverished, toxic environmental disaster area.  But I’m sure it was just because of the eastern topography.

The single most jawdroppingly un-self-aware comment in political history

By Mike Huckabee

I’ve been saying since the 2016 campaign season that one of Hillary Clinton’s many, many weaknesses as a candidate was that whatever dirt the Democrats tried to throw at Trump, you could dig up a shovelful at least three times bigger from Bill and Hill’s past and toss it right back.  We even know at this point that the whole “Russian collusion” hoax was concocted as a way to dent Trump’s greatest strength (making America great again) while negating Hillary’s greatest weakness in polls (signing off on the deal to sell Russia 20% of the US uranium supply while taking tens of millions of dollars from Russian sources for the Clinton Foundation, plus a $500,000 speaking fee for Bill.)

Yet Hillary never seemed to wise up to the fact that every time she accused Trump of something, it only reminded people of far worse things she and her husband had done or been accused of doing.  And now, Hillary has unwisely popped up from seclusion to issue what might be the single most jawdroppingly un-self-aware comment in political history.

She’s urging Congressional Democrats to push ahead with investigating Trump so that they can impeach him (after all, it worked so well for Congressional Republicans impeaching her husband, and he was actually guilty of something).  She claims the Mueller report “couldn’t be clearer” that he obstructed justice (even though it reached no conclusion on that and should have been clear that he didn’t.)  And she said (here it comes; seriously, brace yourself):

“I think there’s enough there that any other person who had engaged in those acts would certainly have been indicted.”

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/hillary-clinton-anyone-other-than-trump-would-have-been-indicted-for-obstruction?fbclid=IwAR0UnBj7kRiVY2uBBgTgjjyFdIW6W8Mg1weiWmxZofMo8RZqyUlBnsMQdAg

Need I remind you, this is the woman who had an email server that was under subpoena wiped, scrubbed with BleachBit and pounded with a hammer, and who is known to have allowed classified communications estimated at anywhere from over a hundred to hundreds of emails to be exposed to enemy hackers.  Yet we were told that no reasonable prosecutor would have brought charges against her.

Here’s how reasonable prosecutors treated people who committed even one, less serious infraction of the type she committed many times over.

https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/white-house/hillary-clinton-emails-could-still-face-charges

It is good to learn, though, that Hillary is appalled at the very suggestion of powerful people being given a pass on their transgressions by federal prosecutors. In that case, I’m sure she would be fine with letting some unbiased federal prosecutors take a second look at her own case.

In the meantime, if Congressional Democrats ignore the history of how voters view politicized impeachments and actually take political advice from Hillary Clinton, risking their reelections just so they can once again help her try to get revenge on Trump for daring to beat her fair and square, then I have to assume they are the people who've been leaving used drug needles in the Starbucks bathrooms.

Confusion on the border

By Mike Huckabee

I believe in cutting people slack for making an honest mistake, and I’d like to think that Mexican troops made an honest mistake when they disarmed two US Army soldiers who were helping with border security.  They were on the US side of the border, but the Mexican troops claim they mistakenly thought they were on Mexican soil.  Turns out they were south of the security perimeter but north of the border.  The Army soldiers should be commended for keeping cool and not letting the situation escalate.

Now, having cut said slack, I want a full investigation and better training for Mexican troops to insure that this kind of “mistake” won’t ever happen again.

Say, you know what would clear up all this confusion?  How about putting a wall on the border!

Harris:  Gun control by executive order

By Mike Huckabee

Democratic Presidential hopeful Sen. Kamala Harris declared that if Congress wouldn’t send her a gun control bill within 100 days, she would impose new gun control laws by executive order.

You can read her gun control proposals at the link and decide for yourself whether they would be good, bad or entirely ineffective (one of them – banning gun sales to fugitives – makes me wonder how many fugitives from justice actually go into gun stores and fill out background check paperwork to buy a gun legally.)  But that’s all academic.

When you’re looking at someone to be President, you should consider first and foremost, does this person have the right attitude for the job, which requires taking a sacred oath to “preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”  That includes the Bill of Rights.  I know that Obama set a precedent for using executive orders to go around Congress and create and rewrite laws.  It’s instructive to see how Democrats defended that, then they go running to federal judges whenever Trump issues an executive order, even one to undo an Obama executive order, to protest that it’s unconstitutional and he’s overstepping his powers.

Yet Sen. Harris is serving notice a year-and-a-half in advance that if elected, she will ignore the Constitutional separation of powers and the law-making power reserved to Congress, and if they don’t pass exactly what she dictates, she will not only write new laws via executive order, but they will be laws that could easily violate the Second Amendment.

It’s immaterial whether you think we need more or less gun control.  The utter contempt her comments betray toward the Constitution, the separation of powers and the Bill of Rights alone should be an automatic disqualifier for the Presidency.  In fact, I wonder if she could even get through the Oath of Office without being struck by lightning.

Must-read article

By Mike Huckabee

Because I don’t want to be accused by the left of fomenting violence by responding to the actual words of Rep. Ilhan Omar, here’s a response to her claim about American soldiers killing thousands of Somalis.  It's from a man who was there. He’s one of the US military members she slandered who put his life on the line to defend her and her countrymen from the Somali warlords who were killing and starving their own people. Not because we were under any obligation to do so, but because that’s what America does.  This might help explain why so many Somalis wanted to come to America.  Rep. Omar was one, if she can remember back that far.

Daily Verse (KJV)

"Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord,
and whose hope the Lord is.
For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters,
and that spreadeth out her roots by the river,
and shall not see when heat cometh,
but her leaf shall be green;
and shall not be careful in the year of drought,
neither shall cease from yielding fruit."

I think it to be very ironic that Hillary can be so proud and untouchable for her "mistakes". I can"t help comparing Bill and Hillary with the Romanian couple disposed from power for their abusing their people. No doubt you may remember their names and their story. Obviously, we the USA would not carry out the punishment they had to face but it would make B & H perk up and worry....

What can I say, as a Republican from California (ick!), I'm sorry that Kamala Harris is Representing our State and now running for President.

I was recently a recipient of a hat which fits this situation perfectly. Across the front it says "TRUMP 2020, LIBERALS 5150". For those who don't understand, 5150 is the California Health & Welfare code used for Mentally Unstable people. The more I listen to liberals talk, including associates, the more I believe this comment on the hat. After I started wearing it, I have been asked by 30 people wear I got it and 2/3's I thought were liberals ?? but they told me they're jumping to the sane side with Trump!

Gov; Huckabee, I read an article written you the Giarodan in 1998 during the time Bill Clinton was in trouble and the impeachment time line follows exactly what Hillary concocted for Pres. Trump. It seems she followed the same strategies used against Bill for Pres. Trump, which is wrong in many ways but that is all she knows how to do. She is not smart or creative but conniving and will use what she knows or experienced. She forced her own history to repeat once again. She is out for vengeance and is still trying to clear the Clinton name! Rudy is right - the Clintons are the worst crime family in American history. They should never have been allowed to occupy the White House. Decades later we are still paying for their crimes and sociopathic behavior and their right to rule America. They need to be tried for their crimes and convicted. America deserves to heal from the Clinton crime cabal. Mobs continue to exist and are prevalent in Washington, D.C. I read a story from a former border patrol agent and he said the Clintons seemed to be part of the drug cartel in the tri-corner states when he was AG & turned their backs on drugs. So they support everything bad in life? All for money & power? Cartels? Drugs? Abortion? Selling American secrets? Stealing from nonprofit money meant for other countries like Haiti? You are right - the Dems DOJ protects them. We will pray they are eventually going to be put in prison for life. Worst couple in American history.
