Today's Commentary ---  BIG BREAKING NEWS: Barr appoints US attorney to examine FBI's Trump probe  --- Momentous -- O'Rourke's running mate?!? --- Biden forced to support the crazy Left -- Excellent article --- Rep. And this is why the Democrats have been desperate to get rid of Attorney General Bill Barr...

In momentous news, Barr has just appointed U.S. Attorney John Durham of Connecticut to investigate the origins of the FBI Trump/Russia probe “Crossfire Hurricane.” This means Barr suspects something criminal took place, as opposed to just bad policy or poor decision-making. It will be Durham's job to determine whether the government’s methods of collecting intelligence related to the 2016 Trump campaign were “lawful and appropriate.”

The big questions that must be answered: Sure, we needed to look into Russia’s interference in our elections, but when and how did then-candidate Trump and his campaign get included in that? Was this political weaponization of the intelligence community? If so, how high did it go?

With gratitude,

This is a potentially momentous development: The Supreme Court, in a 5-4 decision by the conservative majority written by Justice Thomas, ruled Monday that a state can maintain its sovereign immunity from lawsuits in other states, reversing a decades-old SCOTUS decision.  Thomas wrote that the 1979 Court precedent is "irreconcilable with our constitutional structure and with the historical evidence" showing that states have immunity from private lawsuits.

You can read more at the link, but it’s not the dry, legalistic details of this particular case that sent shock waves through legal, media and political circles.  As Justice Breyer fumed in the liberal minority dissent, the Court usually won’t reverse a prior Court ruling on a 5-4 vote (even if that ruling itself was a 5-4 vote?), and he speculated, “Today’s decision can only cause one to wonder which cases the court will overrule next.”

Yes, it does make one wonder what badly-decided, constitutionally-untenable decision the Court pulled out of the air in the 1970s that the newly-conservative Court might overturn next.  Shockwaves explained.

O'Rourke's running mate?

By Mike Huckabee

“Beto” O’Rourke, who lost the Texas Senate race to Ted Cruz, floated the idea of choosing Stacey Abrams, who lost the Georgia Governor’s race, as his Vice Presidential running mate.  The ticket will be known as the “Loser Two-fer.”

Incidentally, some Joe Biden campaign advisers reportedly proposed Abrams as a running mate for him, to offset his “old white guy” image.  But Abrams quickly shot that down, saying that “you don’t run for second place.”  Well, not twice anyway.

Biden forced to support the crazy Left

By Mike Huckabee

I’ve long suspected that one reason Democrats are coming across as so irrational is that they think they must contradict everything President Trump says, even when he says things they (and virtually everyone with a brain) agree with. And so, we’ve been treated to the spectacle of liberals having spittle-flecked meltdowns over Trump doing such ghastly things as trying to secure the border, saying we need better trade deals, condemning gang members who are rapists and murderers, telling NATO nations to pay the share of their own defense that they agreed to pay, and calling for making America great again (that one really grinds their gears.)

It’s tying them into such intellectual knots that their Presidential frontrunner, the great Trump-defeating hope Joe Biden, is now forced to pretend that he supports crazy policies just because Trump opposes them and denounce common sense policies just because Trump supports them – and with his long career in politics, it’s not hard to find videotape proving that it hasn’t even been that long since Joe still had enough common sense that he actually sounded just like Trump.

Excellent article

By Pat Reeder

Excellent article by Daryl Austin on whether the virulently anti-Trump people who believe every terrible thing ever said about him will ever get over their rage and stop attacking and ostracizing anyone who supported him (spoiler alert: likely not), and whether even some of the worst things said about him are really unique to him when you look at previous American leaders (not so much.)

Rep. Dan Crenshaw

By Mike Huckabee

I’ll say it again: the more I hear from Texas freshman Rep. Dan Crenshaw, the more I like him.  Check out this great appearance on Fox Business News where he demolished the opposition to border security by “every single Democrat” in the House, pointing out how it is harming everyone they claim to care about: American citizens, legal immigrants and people around the world who want to be able to claim asylum the legal way.

New York City Mayor Bill DeBlasio

By Mike Huckabee

The riders in the already-overcrowded 2020 Democratic Presidential candidate clown car will have to scooch over a little more soon to make room for New York City Mayor Bill DeBlasio.  But if he thinks it’s going to be easy to defeat Trump, then he learned nothing from Hillary in 2016.  He should have learned this week that it’s not even easy to imitate Trump.

DeBlasio tried pulling a publicity stunt to promote his crazy pro-green, anti-skyscraper plan in New York City.  Naturally, he planned it outside Trump Tower, because that building is a wretched hive of scum and villainy, personally responsible for the worst environmental damage in New York City (apparently, there are no other large buildings in Manhattan, other than solar-powered greenhouses.)

Unfortunately, as so often happens with apocalyptic climate zealots, the weather didn’t cooperate, and he was forced to move his Trump-bashing puppet show inside the atrium of Trump Tower, the very place where Trump came down the escalator to announce his presidential run, to the mockery and scorn of the know-it-all media.

DeBlasio, however, was met by Trump-supporting New Yorkers heckling, “You suck!” and “Boo!” One carried a sign reading, “Worst Mayor Ever!” (His current approval rating is 36% in the city, 24% statewide.)

The hotel staff helped out by cranking up Frank Sinatra's “I’ve Got You Under My Skin” (a perfect choice for what Trump is doing to leftists like DeBlasio.)  His voice growing hoarse over the din, DeBlasio railed at the Trump Organization like a true socialist, “We will take your money. We will hold you accountable.”  Well, I’m sure he spends a lot of time thinking up ways to take their money, at least.

Accountability doesn’t seem to be his forte, though.  For instance, in addition to the deterioration in quality of life and the taxpayer flight since he took over, the city is also being sued by some former NYPD officers who claim they were scapegoated and fired in a political donor bribery scandal they had nothing to do with in order to keep the investigation from reaching the door of the former police commissioner and Mayor DeBlasio.

Before anyone considers voting for Bill DeBlasio for President (if anyone actually would), it’s worth recalling how former NYC Mayor Ed Koch used to go all over town, asking New Yorkers, “How’m I doin’?!”  There’s a good reason why DeBlasio doesn’t do that.  He’s afraid they might tell him.

Reader Comment Of The Day

By Mike Huckabee

Reader Comment Of The Day, from Mary T:

I was very distressed reading the letter from Dianne [whose family was estranged from her over politics]. My family is VERY politically different from me. We have decided that we love each other too much to let politics ruin our relationship. We have agreed to just not discuss politics. There are plenty of other things that we have like interests in. We know we aren't going to convince each other, so why try? Our family is also divided over football, with one being a Clemson grad and the rest Alabama fans. We work hard at keeping the love, and it's working.
