Update: Stephen Colbert and the FCC

May 19, 2017

When the FCC said it was looking into whether Stephen Colbert’s recent obscenity-laced anti-Trump diatribe masquerading as a monologue violated obscenity rules, the liberal media thundered that the Trump Administration was trying to censor its critics (boy, talk about a full time job!) But in fact, the FCC is required to look at any program if the agency receives public complaints of indecency about it. And they got a few complaints about Colbert. Actually, over 5700.

It’s unlikely that they will take action. But for future reference, if Colbert wants to avoid the FCC having to investigate his program for indecency, all he has to do is hire some writers who are capable of writing actual comedy rather than foul-mouthed leftist rants. Then again, if he did that, he’d probably drop back to third in the ratings.

I'm a Catholic and I shiver every time Stephen Colbert says that he is also. He does not live his faith and his political rants, passing as comedy, are shameful. I will continue to pray for a change of heart for Colbert and other liberals who want to take down President Trump.

What I see happening here is that Steven Colbert is in bed with ALL of CBS (which is obviously controlled by the left wingers.) Any rotten thing that spews our of this idiot's mouth ends up on the morning news and the anchors have another hey day laughing at his vulgar remarks. This is what our morning news has come down to. The CBS anchor hosts encourage this sort of late night gutter language. They think it makes their ratings go up. They're all in for a rude awakening. Americans are not that dumb, really.

I did not see this particular rant but he has made no bones about not liking Trump. He has been cruel and mean spirited. He is not funny. There is nothing in his monologue that is giggle-worthy. Never watched him before he took over this late night. One nasty, un-Christian man.

Mike, I watched the clip of Colbert's rants and ravings. While I believe in free speech, this went way beyond what I think our fore fathers intended. At no other time has a sitting President been so hostilely ridiculed and abused by the media. I was deeply offended by the comments Colbert made, and tried to leave a complaint with the FCC. It was denied. Don't know why, I did everything right. They would not accept it. I felt my rights were violated. It don't watch TV at all. I get my news from other sources, as they have betrayed me. I even feel our local news, who are nothing more than spin-offs of national news stations are just as biased. Thank you for being a beacon in this dark time.

I do believe that all of these leftist comedians, talk show hosts, "journalists," will be held accountable in the future. People are tired of the non stop insults and lies.

I realize we have freedom of speech, but when such hatred is spewed across national television and internet, it should be banned and punishable; especially when it is against a President of our United States. The loss of respect is unbelievable. I do not watch Mr. Colbert as I do not condone his type of humor personally. To those find it humorous, I can only feel sorry for the kind of life they must exist in. Totally shameful behavior.

This guy should be fired. Can you imagine if someone had said that about Obama? They would have been hunted down like a criminal. Remember Joe, the plumber, diagreed with Obama? It's a sad shape our country is in that a president is elected and because someone elses' candidate lost that everyone shoud be able to disrespect the sitting president like they have. What do they hope to accomplish. We don't have to agree with what his politics are, we have always had two sides. But never has it gotten so out of hand like it is. We are going to keep on until this world will be gone. God is still on the throne and it has happened before. and it can happen again. Just sayin'

Thanks Mike for keeping us all up to speed on the ridiculous nonsense the leftist crowd rants over. I'm not a Cobert fan, but if this had been someone talking trash about our former president they would have been fired with no questions asked. The double-standard continues.

What I don't understand is why anyone would watch Colbert, it's hate speech, plain an simple. We as the silent majority cannot remain silent anymore. We have given away our power so as to not be called racist or bigots. Well how has that worked for us? We can only answer to our own beliefs in right or wrong. I feel what is happening in our country is wrong!

Comedy seems to be an exceptable way for the left to make their feelings know. If Americans entertain this a exceptable like the devil, over time it becomes normal. We need a zero tolerance for these idiot so called entertainers who are really recruiters for the left

Television today is absolutely NOT FAMILY friendly. I can't even watch a Hallmark movie with my grandkids unless I DVR the movie and SKIP the racy commercials. Embarrassing !!

Too bad Colbert doesn't have any talent and has to resort to Trump name calling to eke out any viewers which mainly are non-working, freebie wagon riding democrats....

Why are so many getting away with so much? Are there no laws in place anymore to fight this profanity and slander? All the behavior from virtually everywhere is outrageous and we don't know what to do! We know there are many others who feel this same way and all we can do is stand by and do nothing!

Governor Huckabee, Stephen Colbert's nasty mouth was the last straw for us. Since that hateful comment, we blocked ABC NBC CBS CNN MSNBC .. all of their channels. We called our cable provider to have the channels removed and charges removed also but that wasn't possible. Why should we PAY money to hear this garbage? We spoke with a supervisor at Charter and made known our request. Also told them we would be looking at other sources for our TV if they didn't accommodate. So blocked for now and still researching alternative choices but MSM is now gone from our home. Completely! Let's hope more people are doing the same.

There's poking fun and there's poking fun. I'm all for good joke. Colbert's remarks were just totally indecent and hateful. Plain wrong! Mr. Trump is the president of the United States. What has happened to the morals and Common Sense decency in this country?

Yet Fox fires Beckel for much less. Administration should make stuff like Colbert said over FCC controlled airwaves hate speech, then perhaps people like him could be held liable and fined.

Trump: "I moved on her like a bitch, but I couldn't get there, and she was married. Then all of a sudden I see her, she's now got the big phony tits and everything." (It's not clear who Trump was talking about.)
"I'm automatically attracted to beautiful [women]—I just start kissing them. It's like a magnet. Just kiss. I don't even wait. And when you're a star they let you do it. You can do anything ... Grab them by the pussy. You can do anything."

I like your humor Gov. Huckabee, used to watch your show when I lived stateside, but sadly I cannot view it in my current Nation of residency. Too much for the 'ol budget' for the premium programming. None-the-less, I try too keep up via your fb postings. I agree, they (FCC) should have at least issued a written as well as publicized warning to Mr. Colbert. I know; freedom of speech; but too much in the guise of poetic or comedic license. Indeed, his show would drop in ratings, What ever happened to the Red Skeltons, Ernie Kovacs, Dean Martin, etc etc. Praying for our Nation (USA) and a personal inquiry Bro. Mike; would ye take a position in the Trump Admin if offered? Was hoping ye would have made the Oval office or at least an appointment. The Lord's continued blessing upon ye as ye walk under HIS eternal grace.

Can't STAND that man!! It's bad enough the way he's always bad-mouthing the President of The United States of America. But the overpaid JERK won't leave the ENTIRE First Family alone. Even the GRANDCHILDREN are not exempt from his tirades. He has taken on the cloak of CBS's Official Late-Night Trump Basher!!!
    Absolutely SICKENING AND DISGUSTING.

I've noted this in other posts, the 1st Amendment is NOT all inclusive. There ARE limitations, such as yelling fire in a crowded theater or "hi Jack" on an airliner. The morals of television have eroded severely over the last couple decades, but there ARE still rules in place that a nut job like Coldbutt have to adhere to!
