Trump administration reverses Obamacare rule

October 8, 2017 |

Friday, the Trump Administration issued a new rule through Health and Human Services, exempting companies that have a “sincerely-held religious or moral objection” from having to provide birth control to employees through their insurance plans. Planned Parenthood immediately denounced it as “an unacceptable attack on basic health care that the vast majority of women rely on.”

Kudos to Planned Parenthood for that wonderful example of verbal sleight of hand designed to panic American women. By using the phrase “the vast majority of women,” they imply that that’s who the policy change will affect. It won’t. This was one of the most controversial aspects of Obamacare. It resulted in the unconscionable image of the federal government hauling the Little Sisters of the Poor, a Catholic order of nuns who help the indigent terminally ill, into federal court and costing these nuns under a vow of poverty huge legal fees in an attempt to force them to violate their sacred beliefs by paying for birth control and abortifacient drugs.

It sparked expensive court cases by private companies such as Hobby Lobby to defend their Constitutional protection against government encroachment on their freedom of religion, cases that the government lost. It affects a miniscule number of privately-held, genuinely religious employers, and other accommodations can and have been made for providing those workers with coverage, as long as it’s not paid directly by the employers in a way that violates their First Amendment rights.

When you examine the facts of this move, who is really showing more contempt for women? The Trump Administration, which is trying to end further (likely successful) expensive legal challenges to the Obama Administration’s unconstitutional overreach that affects at most 0.1% of employers? Or liberals who think that women can be bamboozled and panicked into believing that the “vast majority” of employer health care plans are suddenly going to stop covering a basic benefit that costs only about $20 a month?

This reminds me of something I often think of when I listen to liberals making “the sky is falling” speeches designed to panic Americans into voting for them: “Are you really that stupid, or do you just think that we are?”

And without missing a beat, the ACLU immediately sues the Trump Administration over its exemption from the Obamacare contraception coverage mandate for private companies with sincere religious objections. The ACLU calls the exemption “blatantly unconstitutional,” despite the fact that in the Hobby Lobby case, the Supreme Court already famously ruled that forcing such companies to abide by the mandate is unconstitutional. I can’t imagine I’m about to say this, but maybe the ACLU’s lawyers need to read the New York Times more often.

Congress heard all the facts and knew about these organizations and many other corrupt activities. Yet they do nothing for the people of America. Furher they do not support our President on a united front to the world. No loyalty. They only care about themselves and their pay checks during their terms. Many have broken the laws in their own practices that are like crooks. They even blamed the bureaucratic steps for their lack of action. They don't show up for meetings. They betrayed us with false promises. It is all talk and no action so far. There is no benefits in voting for them anymore. I can only make "one" mark on the ballot and that will be who I will vote for president. If president Trump is going to run, I will vote for the man who will get things done.

It would be interesting to see how many women are getting multiple abortions because they are using it as a means of birth control. My sister took her friend to Little Rock last summer for her 5th abortion! If they want to continue this behavior, let them pay for their own abortions. They keep crying that women need birth control pills, but in my opinion, that is not their main purpose for existing. Their main purpose is abortion. They probably have as many abortions as they do women who get birth control pills through their organization. I am all for defunding them.

I agree wholeheartedly with John Clark's comment. However, I would like to add one more totally useless organization we could all do without ---- Southern Poverty Law Center ---- which I believe is nothing more than a shill for all the communist and socialist organizations out there!!

I think a lot of the Obamacare problems could be resolved quickly if Congress and all the people tied to them on their SPECIAL insurance plans lost that plan and had to live like the rest of us. Can't Trump cancel their special program?

This is a re-post of a post we written earlier with an update, here is the update: KEEP YOUR VAGINA OUT OF MY POCKETBOOK!!!! To EVERYONE who is upset that the health care will no longer mandate that employers pay for your birth control-----just a couple of things----how did you pay for birth control before Obama Care kicked in, its only been around about 7 years, so if you are older than 23 years old now, how did you pay for it before? Birth Control should NOT be the sole responsibility of women, it takes two to get pregnant, your male partner should have some responsibility in providing birth control, especially if you are married or in a committed relationship. Surprised the Women's movement doesn't point this out. What makes you think ANYONE else should pay for your fun and recreation? Having sex is not a life threatening situation, it is a personal choice. If you are old enough to have sex YOU need to take responsibility in providing what it takes to keep yourself safe---not the tax payers, not your employers. IF you cannot do so because of financial or other reasons, then maybe you need to re-think the whole sex thing, absence is good, if that doesn't work for you then, there are different ways to having sexual other than intercourse. GROW up, you are responsible for the actions you take, not the taxpayers, not the employers and certainly not the government, (this includes President Trump). Take responsibility for your own birth control. This should not even be an issue of debate. Cam and Pam Stellrecht.

There are two organizations that we can do without in America to the betterment of our nation, Planned Parenthood and the ACLU. And WHEN is PP going to be defunded? All talk and no action. No organization should be forced to violate their religious convictions. It has always appeared to me that the ACLU is for civil liberties only for those with whom they agree. As for PP, they scream like the babies they torture, when they don't get their own way. Kudos to Trump for his actions.

I am a retired police officer with a pension that would allow us to live comfortably except for one thing...the obscenely exorbitant monthly premiums for my wife's health insurance (thank you so much Obama). If not for the small disability stipend from the VA (Vietnam vet/Agent Orange issues) I could not manage those premiums. My wife has psoriatic arthritus - an extremely painful condition of the joints - that require weekly injections to help her manage that pain. We were just informed recently that Iowa Blue Cross Blue Shield is terminating my wife's coverage effective January 1, 2018. Panic? That can't begin to describe what we're going through. My wife won't be eligible for Medicare for another two years. Without those injections the pain is crippling. Is she to suffer for 2 years, perhaps becoming wheelchair bound? Anything President Trump can do to get those Democrats off their dead butts and DO something about obamacare will be a miracle at the very least. If it were shumer's wife or pelosi's husband needing those injections and obamacare was their only source of relief? You bet your booties something would have been done and long ago too!

If you really read these comments, Mike, please respond to this question: Why can't you openly support The FairTax anymore or speak privately to President Trump about it? You and I know that it would be the best plan, especially for a Wall-Street-loving President like ours to promote, instead of any other plan to tweak the Income Tax that won't work in the long run. I'm truly disappointed in your silence.

I'm so thankful that President Trump isn't afraid to do the right thing! I will be even more impressed when we get rid of the Obama Care mandate and give healthcare decisions back to the people. Thanks for keeping us informed Mike!

A great article about the facts of real Citizen information and good reporting. As for Climate Change, I noticed today that the Barometric Pressure had changed from just two hours ago, and it does this quite frequently since I was old enough to own a Barometer, and I am in my 91st year. I thought it was quite common for the Climate to change since the Atmospheric Bubble that the Earth spins in is subject to the following powers of Creation, Gravity, Temperature, Motion and Pressure. This has been accepted science from my early youth until some educated idiot discovered that most of the Humans in the world were Ignorant of any real facts about the Earth's Climate (There are over 40 million such points of Climate at any one time on the Globe) could be fooled into believing all kind of "Climate Change Scams" including that they (The Citizen, could be convinced that their actions in life was reasoning for all the Climate changes that they experienced); The Scams multiplied in number until many politicians and so called scientist had gotten rich from taking a lot of money from all of these ignorant citizen's.. There is more but this has already taken too long, so I will just say; become less ignorant about the functions of creation and pay less attention to the "know-it-all gobble-de-gook" peddlers who are supposed to be educated. PS were are all born ignorant and the common education begins with our Mothers, but we are never removed from the ignorant state of life, simply because, we can never know it all about it all (Life). " He who knows not and knows not that he knows not is a fool shun him". The moral of this story is to shun Al Gore and all the other Idiots involved in the "Climate Change Scam", regardless of their status in life or claim of knowledge. Doesn't effect the poor what-so-ever. Doesn't effect those who go to planned parenthood. HOBBY LOBBY already won their case and this needs to continue for the BAKER who refused to provide his product on the basis of religion. Hey, if someone can stop school prayer because they are offended and do not believe in GOD, then someone else can take away their birth control because they do...

I have written a comprehensive essay that completely obliterates the greenhouse gas theory or climate change.
