America’s first female Attorney General, Janet Reno, has died at 78 after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. Her term was scarred by a number of controversies, from the deadly Branch Davidian raid in Waco to the taking of six-year-old Elian Gonzalez from his family at gunpoint to return him to communist Cuba. Yet she stayed in place to become the longest-serving person ever in that position, filling it for almost the entire eight years of the Clinton Administration. Also noteworthy: she was reportedly chosen for the job by Hillary Clinton personally. I offer my condolences to her family and friends.

Remember when President Obama said he only learned about Hillary Clinton’s private email server from the news, just like we did? Well, turns out that was what the news media would call a “lie” if a Republican had said it. Actually, he had an ultra-secure Blackberry that only accepted messages from pre-approved addresses, so he had to be informed every time Hillary changed her email address. How do we know this? Because, according to Fox News, Huma Abedin told the FBI that she contacted him herself to let him know of every change in Hillary’s address.

Of course, Obama only found out that Huma had contacted him about Hillary’s email address several years ago when he saw it in the news this week. Don’t laugh; I halfway expect to hear that excuse before this is over and done with.

Hillary Clinton’s spokeswoman issued an odd warning that if you see a “whopper” of a revelation about Hillary from WikiLeaks in the next two days, it’s probably fake. This reminds me of Yogi Berra’s famous complaint, “Half the lies they tell about me aren’t true.”

From the “You Can’t Make This Stuff Up” Dept.: About 20 illegal Mexican immigrants entered Hillary Clinton’s campaign office in Pittsburgh and refused to leave, staging a protest of deportations. Why, they feel like criminals! No wonder; while they were there, four of them took advantage of Hillary’s electrical outlets to charge up the electronic ankle bracelet monitors they were wearing after they’d been paroled or bailed out of jail. Gives new meaning to the term, “Facing charges.”

The news media and Democratic Party operatives (but I repeat myself) are trumpeting James Comey’s latest 180 as having “exonerated” Hillary Clinton. No, it hasn’t. Even if you swallow the idea that mountains more evidence of lawbreaking and deliberate obstruction don’t bolster the case against her, that’s just the emails. The Clinton Foundation is still under scrutiny, and if Comey can’t find anything fishy there, then he’ll have a worse track record than a blind pig hunting for acorns.

If the FBI is looking for a place to start, somebody already did it for them. WikiLeaks revealed that a lawyer wrote a report back in 2008, blasting the Foundation for operating more like a political organization than a charity. Her 19-page report criticized the Clinton Foundation for everything from its substandard sexual harassment policies (there’s a surprise!) to intertwining charity business and the business of Bill Clinton, creating confusion “at virtually every level.” At that point, it had already been operating for 10 years. The attorney demanded that reforms be made immediately to bring it into compliance with rules and laws governing non-profit charitable institutions.

Needless to say, eight years later, none of those reforms have been instituted, and the lies, corruption and rule-breaking have only gotten worse. But then, you could say that about any institution that’s entrusted to the Clintons for eight years. So why would anyone do that?

A story to lighten up one of the most nerve-wracking weeks of our lives: a Portland, Oregon, woman thought that her 2001 Subaru had been stolen. When the real story came to light, it restored her faith in humanity, and maybe it will restore yours a little, too. If nothing else, you’ll learn something surprising about a 15-year-old Subaru. No, you won’t learn why she thought somebody wanted to steal hers.
